Yea not sure much can be done - I knew there was a risk not using escrow - I decided it was worth the risk in this case and obviously that was a bad decision - I received the first part of my order but not the majority of the silver maples I purchased - I think 28 in total which was a tough pill to swallow - I’m still not entirely convinced he intended to scam everyone - definitely possible or possible something abruptly happened to him like ended up in jail or something odd as he may have been desperate for money at the time or something.

The Stone the masons rejected was the cornerstone.
Always always think of the worst case scenario and protect yourself accordingly...escrow unless you know the person and have traded with him for many years.

Peace of mind is worth the price of escrow.

I highly recommend using escrow/intermediary escrow with the help of @minerjones if you don't know a seller. Send funds to Mj & he locks the Sats until you hold the item in hands

Its weird because i did receive a empty cas. At a really low price as well....
The second auction i won never came. 10 maples  with a free cas.

But thats a classic scam method too henk, deliver the first traunch of coins as
an illusion that all is fine and to suck those users further into the scam.

I was done myself a few years ago with a trade for PayPal to BTC, The first small
one wenth smoothly, the second larger one didnt!

My personal observation is that 98% of the collectibles club here are
honest decent people so 98% of the time everything goes smoothly so there is
an overall air of positivity here and scams like this can get through.

could have been a new person with an account they bought - odd that it was that old and had zero trust.

I lean towards a bought account - seeing as they went from 2015 to 2019 with no posts and 2019 to 2022 with no posts then 2022 to 2024 between posts.

Huge long dormant time frames.
Totally agree, I was just thinking the same about the bought account. I should have checked the past activities, but well... this leaves me with a lesson learned.

Satoshi loves sleazy bitcoin too - Ordinals
Less trust should be given to ranking and more to recent activity and trust.  I almost bought a cas coin via pm myself. But luckily decided to wait and see if people received their items. Surprisingly he wasn’t pushy with me or insistent I pay right now. Or even follow up. Still a really fucked up situation. Recent activity/known member > status

Nobody dies a virgin… Life fucks us all.
Classic exit scam. I knew I was taking a chance with seller not accepting escrow & no trust rating. .0014 gone, hope the piece of shit gets ass raped soon ✌️

this is the purpose of escrow. There are several here that provide that service Minerjones, OgNasty and myself are just a few that offer that service.

I will have less willingness to send first without escrow forsure.

Maybe we should also start clarifying what all people are missing?

I am missing a shipment of 19 Canadian maples..

Hello everyone, after not receiving the Casascius coin that the user " MarketNeutral " was raffling off, what can be done to learn from and correct these actions? We don't know what happened with this person—whether they truly scammed people or something happened to them. How can we recognize when someone might be capable of scamming in this way, especially since more than 12 people did not receive their Casascius coins and also silver coins? This person has been on the platform for years and was always very active...

The curious thing is that they sent out some coins, but after their last raffle, nothing ever arrived again. What's even stranger is that when we won the last auction, they seemed very desperate for us to pay them. In fact, they were quite insistent, saying they would send all the coins together.

Even though there’s nothing we can do now since it’s been about two months, this person has earned a bad reputation. Not only did they not return the bitcoins, but it’s also a shame that this happened in this group, since I would say 99% of the people here are honest. From what I’ve seen, the Bitcoin veteran group is very trustworthy, which is why this user stands out, especially since they’ve been here since the beginning and still did this.

Of course, maybe something happened to them—we don’t know—but it’s still curious.
