Once a man, twice a child!
One of the few uses of the Bitcointalk Twitter account is to notify whether the forum is down.
If the forum is down, I'll know when it doesn't load Wink I don't need Twitter for that.
If that will even be any thought for reactivating the forum's account on Twitter, I think Twitter isn't necessary for BTT then. Let it remain inactive and Elon Musk can do with it whatever pleases him.

I did the opposite: I deleted my account.
Stop making Twitter important. It's not.
You are the second person on the forum who admitted it publicly (besides me), although I may have missed that someone else did it too.
Musk's type of freedom of speech is laced with hypocrisy. He's trying to force subscribers into doing what he wants while crying freedom. Where's the freedom, then? It's good iconoclasts are daring him on that.

If Bitcointalk twitter account weren't used for more than 4 years, maybe it's not important thing at all and even if it will be deleted, it won't be big loss at all. Twitter never been important channelf of communication for Bitcointalk.
And I think that Bitcointalk shouldn't follow and agree with every stupid thing that Musk does.
From 2013 to 2017, the Twitter channel was more active and useful. And there's nothing wrong with what the OP just did; there's been a lot going on with Elon Twitter, and I'm just hearing about this development for the first time and found it useful. Bitcointalk Twitter contains a large number of bitcointalk historical tweets and should be protected at the very least.

I'm aware that the forum is terrible at maintaining anything outside of the forum; the forum's YouTube channel and Discord both failed, so I'm not surprised.

He's desperate for attention, and it's working. Forcing inactive accounts to become active again increases the value of his investment. I did the opposite: I deleted my account.
On Twitter, we can deactivate our accounts and can restore it within 30 days.

Quote from: Twitter
This will deactivate your account
You’re about to start the process of deactivating your Twitter account. Your display name, @username, and public profile will no longer be viewable on Twitter.com, Twitter for iOS, or Twitter for Android.

What else you should know
You can restore your Twitter account if it was accidentally or wrongfully deactivated for up to 30 days after deactivation.

Stop making Twitter important. It's not.
I did not say it is important or not important.

Avoid the account deletion by Twitter is to avoid fake accounts that try to be official accounts of Bitcointalk and tweet incorrect information.

I did not know anything change by Elon Musk but before he took over Twitter.
- Account username (Twitter handle) can be changed
- New users can create their accounts with my old username (handle).

If I have a Twitter account @BlackBoss and change it to @PinkBoss. Another new user can create a new account with my old username @BlackBoss

I don't know it is applied for old username of more than 30-day deactivated accounts or deleted accounts.

If it is applied after the forum account is deleted, after 30 days or 3 months by Twitter rules, scammers can create a new account with a handle @bitcointalk and scam.

I strongly recommend that @theymos tweet on twitter or do what is necessary to activate the account on Twitter, or find any better alternative.

I remember during 2017 there were many DDoS attacks that were announced on Twitter, and the existence of a reference in which we make sure From the identity of the owner on Twitter which is better than searching for it through the Internet.
If it is not possible to continue on Twitter, it is best to move to Discord.

You are the second person on the forum who admitted it publicly (besides me), although I may have missed that someone else did it too. I respect everyone's personal attitude towards what is currently happening with Twitter, but I do not want to be part of such freedom of expression, and luckily millions think the same.

If someone wants a similar platform, there are many alternatives, you just have to look for them.

I don't see anything wrong by make a tweet. Theymos might as well as check security of @bitcointalk twtitter account while he's as it.

I agree. But it'd be great to know additional information such as expected downtime or any damage/loss (such as recent post is corrupted).

Well, I would not know if the problem is on my side or on the forum's.
And maybe excepting a switch between clear net and Tor, I don't have external services where I could login and check. And I expect most of the users are in a worse situation.

...Or is there another way to find out and I've missed that?

Stop making Twitter important. It's not.

At least this is something I do agree with. And it stands for all social media platforms.

I doubt Theymos even sees the twitter account as important

One of the few uses of the Bitcointalk Twitter account is to notify whether the forum is down.
Of course, this didn't really happen lately, but I'm sure that theymos knows this and almost sure that he will act.
...After all, even Hal's wife has made a post in order to keep Hal's account alive. I think that it's even less a hassle for theymos do the same for Bitcointalk.

I doubt Theymos even sees the twitter account as important, the YouTube BitcoinTalk show has since been on pause. I think it will be a plus if we can get some rep on twitter somehow the platform has become the number 1 social app in the world today even world leaders have an active account. Bitcointalk isn’t getting enough rep as it should as the number 1 bitcoin forum. The quality of newbies may not be top notch but if we have more influx of new users from twitter, there will be a lot more drama in reputation board. That I’m sure of

Try to transfer this problem to yourself. If you are not interested in the contents of the account, and you have been inactive for a long time, will you activate it only because of the threat of deletion? What will follow next? Again, a break of several years? To keep an account alive, you need to maintain it regularly, but I don't see the need to grasp at straws with the "just keep an account, just in case" rule.
But I agree that a lot of new people would come to the forum if the admin's Twitter account regularly posted news from the forum. But maybe those who come here in other ways have better abilities and, as a result, achieve more.

Since we are talking about the status of the Twitter account of this forum.
I would like to suggest the administrator to share control of the account with a trustworthy moderator with enough time to use the account to share articles, art and other content which could help to bring awareness about Bitcoin, the principles behind it and some misconceptions.

Or it could just be used to share a link to a thread which received the most merit each week/month.
It would serve as some kind of register while guiding all those followers towards threads of good quality.

Just an idea, it is not necessary to hire a community manager to keep an account active and useful for our ecosystem.

Dear theymos,

Elon Musk want to clean up Twitter. One of his aims is inactive Twitter accounts and his criteria to choose what accounts to delete are not clear enough.
Why would he do so, it would be a dick move to delete an account that has not spammed in the past and last tweeted in 2018  Cheesy

Do you think you should make a tweet just to be whitelisted from the deleting aim that is coming?
Are you willing to perform a DDoS attack? *Joke*

Prevention is better than cure and send a support ticket or appeal to Twitter.
Bitcointalk will always move on even if it was deleted.

We can't be certain if theymos is controlling bitcointalk twitter account or not,
That's the official account of forum on twitter and is controlled by theymos.
Read the old post made by him.

Twitter @bitcointalk is official, but I only use it for outage notices and such.

We can't be certain if theymos is controlling bitcointalk twitter account or not, but this would be the only way to keep account alive and prevent deletion.
Hall Finney wife Fran recently did the same thing with Hall's twitter account, making a post after years of inactivity, however I don't think that Bitcointalk twitter account ever had something historically important.

Looks like someone really cares about the social status of this forum. This forum's Twitter handle is inactive for four years but still got around 15k followers which is great. Just imagine if theymos or anyone keeps the Twitter account up to date.

The forum has one Twitter account which was last active in 2018 August.
