The official twitter account of the forum has been inactive for a long time and we do not have the exact information as to who controls this twitter account. If Theymos has control of the Twitter account, he must protect the forum's official Twitter account from being permanently banned.

He logged in already, the account is safe for the main time.

I logged into the account about a week ago to keep it active. If I have to keep doing this all the time, then I'll probably just let it expire, since it hasn't been used in a long time anyway.

The Twitter account of LukeDashJr was suspended. https://twitter.com/LukeDashjr

Hal Finney's account is still safe. Maybe from the effort of his wife. https://twitter.com/halfin

Not sure what happened as last tweets of Hal Finney account is on 2n Jan 2023.
Last tweets of LukeDashJr is about the same time when his Bitcoin wallet was hacked.
Bitcoin core developer claims to have lost 200+ BTC in hack

It is a really bad move from Elon Musk. Inactive accounts don't actually have less values and contributions than active accounts with tweets for non-sense things.

Would you let inactive accounts clog your server if you were Elon? What good are such dormant accounts to his company? There are no two ways about it: you are either there or you are not. He is correct in clearing out old inactive accounts to make room for new ones. After 5 years of inactivity, Facebook assumes you are passed away and bans your account. happens everywhere

As a business analyst, I would much rather have 100 active accounts posting ridiculous things every day than 1,000,000 inactive ones.

Indeed. Lately, I was checking NOSTR, a protocol for decentralized social network. Created an account on NOSTR Rocks. This feels somewhat like early days of Bitcoin.
There is very small amount of registered accounts in Nostr that it doesn't make any sense for anyone to move there, and theymos won't start using any social media just because of this.
I think that Mastodon has biggest Bitcoin community, but it is still insignificant if we look at big picture, and it just create eco chamber for small circle of people.
Point of any social media related with Bitcointalk would be to reach wider audience and different people, not geeks who already know about Bitcointalk forum.
Sirius, an early Bitcoin developer and erstwhile owner of BitcoinTalk.org, is now building a decentralized social media platform called Iris.to, which is running on NOSTR protocol - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/identifiorg-address-book-with-ratings-130137. Iris.to has in-built payment using Bitcoin Lightning Network. Things surrounding NOSTR is changing very fast. Do not miss out or you may lose out. Wink

What about Elon Musk's Twitter don't you like? Twitter Blue: The New Freedom of Speech?, The Space? Although he may have annoyed some people, the fact that there are now twice as many people using Twitter as there were before he took over suggests that Elon is managing it properly, unless I'm missing something.
There is lot of things that I don't like on Musk's Twitter. First one is selling verified badges for $ and how many scams happened after they introduced such policy. Freedom of speech? It doesn't exist on Twitter when Musk is selective and keep double standards when choose which accounts to unban. Also, he is planning to increase number of characters from 280 to 4000. It means that Twitter will turn into another Facebook with long texts. People preffered Twitter exactly because of short and fast messages.
2x more active users than before Musks's era? It sounds too good to be true, but ok.

Isn't that what the previous CEO did? Selling badges to scammers behind closed doors, selling passwords of reputable personalities to scammers, how many crypto scams occurred on Twitter last year? more than four. Selling the badge, at the very least, to make it less important and to remind everyone that having the badge does not imply that the project or individual is trustworthy. Reduced badge power was a good idea, and if you use Twitter regularly, you can easily tell who bought Twitter blue and who was verified for being a notable person or government official.

Yes, there are more people on Twitter than ever before,( Elon poster it few weeks after taking over) and everyone who was reinstated did so through online voting

It's great to see that the forum has a Twitter account with a large number of followers. It would be ideal if the account was whitelisted in accordance with Elon Musk's new Twitter policy. In comparison to using a social media or another website, this forum is more like a social media platform where everything you need to know about bitcoin is embedded and explicitly explained here, which is why I believe the account has been inactive for a long time now. Even so, keeping the account will be beneficial because it may serve a purpose in the future. However, this forum is where the real-time updates are, and the emphasis here is more prominent than on Twitter due to many restrictions that exist there which are not found here.

Goodnight, ohh Leo!!! 🦅
Musk has control over the domain -- no one has a say over that, not even the creator. I won't wanna question his decisions as that wouldn't change anything, so it's needless.
Theymos -- on the other hand -- has alot on his agenda for every single day, as much as I know. He's tried to describe that severally in one or two post of his and I'll stand by that. We all know that we've got alot of proposed projects that should be created, rearranged and ventured....and there isn't time for that yet, talk more of some Twitter account that hasn't been operated for over 4 years?? Hmmm

Is there any need to use social media handle again. This forum is more of social media discussions, anyone that's in this forum and want to discuss things that concerning this forum should discuss it it here. And things that are about the forum and doesn't concerned the forum but for personal issues between members can be discussed outside the the forum as an individual social media chatting can settle some disputes and others.
I prefer this as a forum where we discuss and share our thoughts in detail, but OP here is talking about the Twitter account of Bitcointalk forum.
Twitter and bitcointalk I believe, are two completely different things. You can see the posts from Bitcointalk twitter handle that only tweeted about updates and server-down news.

This is not important to Theymos i believe so even the forum there are lot of loads for him over here than twitter, and i guess if Elon Musk carries out this operation i don't think twitter would be an enjoyable place (social media) for people to deal with again more especially those who don't really have time for social media but often come online. Well he is the owner so he could do whatever that pleases him but believe me or not, in no time there would be a social media that will takeover or outcome twitter which people may likely dump twitter for the new media.

Theymos is not active on social media. I'm aware that those tweets were posted by someone
theymos has never written that he assigned someone to tweet for Bitcointalk account on Twitter.
Twitter @bitcointalk is official, but I only use it for outage notices and such. If there are no problems, then there will be no @bitcointalk messages.

I don't use social media. If you think that some social media functionality would be useful (such as pointing to interesting posts), feel free to do it yourself. If it's an interesting project, I might be willing to create APIs to help you. But since I don't use these sites, I don't even know what people would want.
With Twitter, its limitation on total characters for each tweet is insane that does not allow users to tweet and express full idea.

Background

Twitter began as an SMS text-based service. This limited the original Tweet length to 140 characters (which was partly driven by the 160 character limit of SMS, with 20 characters reserved for commands and usernames). Over time as Twitter evolved, the maximum Tweet length grew to 280 characters - still short and brief, but enabling more expression.
Privacy is another thing that theymos does not like to use social media.

From 2013 to 2017, the Twitter channel was more active and useful. And there's nothing wrong with what the OP just did; there's been a lot going on with Elon Twitter, and I'm just hearing about this development for the first time and found it useful. Bitcointalk Twitter contains a large number of bitcointalk historical tweets and should be protected at the very least.

I'm aware that the forum is terrible at maintaining anything outside of the forum; the forum's YouTube channel and Discord both failed, so I'm not surprised.
OP did nothing wrong with this topic indeed, I also wasn't aware about this thing that Musk is planning to do. Actually, it's not that easy to follow every stupid thing that Musk makes. I agree that Bitcointalk twitter is part of history and I also would prefere to keep it alive, rather than get deleted. But if it will get deleted, it won't be that big loss. Things that Musk isdoing with Twitter is ridiculous and I'm not sure that theymos want to be part of it. I wouldn't be surprised if Musk will destroy Twitter himself with his actions.

Theymos is not active on social media. I'm aware that those tweets were posted by someone, but removing them will only have an impact on bitcointalk history and not Elon Musk. For future use, nothing pertaining to bitcoin should be deleted. It shouldn't be a big deal if sending a simple tweet is the only way to keep it active for another ten years.

I did the opposite: I deleted my account.
Stop making Twitter important. It's not.

You are the second person on the forum who admitted it publicly (besides me), although I may have missed that someone else did it too. I respect everyone's personal attitude towards what is currently happening with Twitter, but I do not want to be part of such freedom of expression, and luckily millions think the same.

If someone wants a similar platform, there are many alternatives, you just have to look for them.

Indeed. Lately, I was checking NOSTR, a protocol for decentralized social network. Created an account on NOSTR Rocks. This feels somewhat like early days of Bitcoin.

I guess, instead of continuing with the BitcoinTalk account on Twitter, it is better if theymos creates a NOSTR account and post Public Key through the Twitter handle. Then a pinned post or factoid or news addition on BitcoinTalk for others to follow the same handle on NOSTR would be great for this new decentralized social network's growth as well.

Do NOT argue on Twitter. Let's build the Future.

It's always good to have a contingency for events that might lack clarity at first. However, it's not like we've needed it all that much in the past few years. Hence, the inactivity. theymos was quite clear what he intended to use it for.

I didn't have one in the first place, so that's always a plus. Although, I've seen this sort of response outside of the forum. Twitter will likely be transformed into something very different, whether that's for better or worse remains to be seen. However, a lot of existing users are deleting their accounts simply because they disagree with the political choices being made right now.

I believe Elton John may have voiced his concerns about censorship or misinformation on the platform.

Elon Musk presented himself as a bitcoin enthusiast only to gain popularity in the crypto space, It was shocking when he started making negative comments about bitcoin. Clearly, his main objective was to shill doge coin which he did.
Well, to tell you the truth I don't really give a damn with what he does with his investment or money provided he doesn't double speak. We've to admit that he brought Dogecoin to the limelight with his shilling. We know Bitcoin maxims don't like him for talking down on Bitcoin and offloading his hodling when he did but it's his decision to make. He who calls the Piper dictates the tune. What I detest about Elon (or any other human) is double speaking. If he talks about freedom then it should be all encompassing.

Musk's type of freedom of speech is laced with hypocrisy. He's trying to force subscribers into doing what he wants while crying freedom. Where's the freedom, then? It's good iconoclasts are daring him on that.
Twitter has been a wreck since Musk bought it, he doesn’t even know what to do with the platform and he seems to be testing his strengths. I never liked Elon Musk, I don’t trust him either.
