This guy has lost 103 bitcoins he mined back in 2011 and then lost his wallet dat file similar to what I have done but wow this guy must be gutted the amount of money he has lost compared to me

His Address    166BuLPWHUjqoqiYp5rGE3B5r5AmqgHpoL    Final Balance   103.20832384 BTC

So many people have the same problem and I wonder just how much Bitcoin is stuck not being able to be used Sad

He says "I used to mine Bitcoin back in 2011 and I lost my wallet.dat file (through several stupid moves on my part). It's got approx 103 BTC in it, anyone is welcome to it, I've given up trying."

Such a sad story, when people lost their coins, especially BTC. But a lot of people, who mined BTC in the very beginning didn’t take it too seriously, so may be that`s why they lost it.

I had a similar experience with a friend, because then bitcoin was seen as nothing people are just playing around with the mining. Most of them don't even know the password to their wallet. Now that all wallet are now back with back up phrase and PUK, is now difficult for them to recover the wallet back.

How much time and resources are needed to brute force the key? Or is this not possible at all?

Just wondering, if this pure guy lost such an amount of money maybe it is better to invest now in needed hardware and try to brute force or any other way to find the key.

Well, there is nothing anyone can do for him. And that should be a lesson for the rest of us. Don't experiment on your main wallet and also back it up at multiples places. And besides, this guy never knew that the price would go that high, i mean when he lost, he only lost a small amount, so he should have coped with it with not much trouble.

It is very sad to lose 103 BTC, but it is certainly a matter of bitcoin to be able to solve this problem that may come back someday, and bitcoin may be able to apply a new way so that if one day it happens the same as that someone will not experience sadness and can get back BTC. But also we all who have btc should be able to keep and store our btc well in the safest place so as not to be stolen others and not lose the btc we have.

I'm really sorry for the guy who lost his 103 huge coins. In fact, the Bitcoin subscribers never thought that Bitcoin would get the price. That which is forever lost is never found back. So do not wait for the lost forever and move forward.

Losing that amount of money is terrible, I also lost about 27 BTC last year, my case is that my iPhone got stolen and I forgot to backup the 12 words of MyCelium, I was pretty sick seeing the Bitcoin price climbing very fast at the end of 2017

That's really sad! I hope he manages to recover his BTC even tho it's virtually impossible at this point, also I believe that was a dumb move he made I believe.
It would be really hurt for him, 103 bitcoins is such a great amount. It could buy a lot of thing; thus, losing it is like losing his future as well especially when he is dependent on it.

That happens all the time during that time because they still do not know the future of bitcoin. Mining on 2011 would not take so much effort and money, during that time mining is so easy to do. Maybe if he realize soon the future of bitcoin he might do stuff like security and taking care of what he have.

I've lost more than $ 3k just to lose my private key. I saved it in a spreadsheet and did not seem to affect it. But when I used it, my private key was no longer the same, it was changed by the small impact. So this is a lesson learned for us. Be careful in using wallets.

Do you still have that spreadsheet file?  Maybe if the spreadsheet program did not change the private key too much you can figure out how to undo the changes.  Try pasting some other bitcoin private keys into the same spreadsheet program, and then observe how they get changed.  They might not get modified after just pasting, so if not, save and reload the spreadsheet file.

I doubt a spreadsheet program would make random changes to the private key.  There is likely to be a "system" to the changes, which you can figure out and then reverse in order to recover your bitcoins.  If the "system" can lose information, you might be able to figure out a set of possibilities that is not too large to just try them all.  As an example, if the spreadsheet program turns all upper case letters into lowercase ones, and your private key as shown in the spreadsheet now is "aa" then you have to try the four possible originals "AA", "Aa", "aA" and "aa".

Hopefully you can get your bitcoins back.

Good luck!

That is a tremendous value. Surely that person felt deeply disappointed. But everything has happened and everything has passed. No need to think about it and make it a lesson. The best teacher is experience. So it should keep the spirit and not have to think about the past.

I'm extremely sad for the person who lost his 103 huge coins. Actually, the Bitcoin supporters never felt that Bitcoin would get the cost. That which is everlastingly lost is never found back. So don't sit tight for the lost perpetually and push ahead.

I think it is really awful, can't imagine how he feels but what to do , you need to go further and not think of such pity things which happended in the past , it is necessary to find the reason and not make the same mistake

Who would have thought if Bitcoin would become popular like this, no wonder if Bitcoin would be the perfect target of theft. it would be better to keep the BTC or wallet address safely without having to be published because we never got from where the Hacker came especially if it holds that much BTC. Keep your address safe and most importantly do not open your address to public places
