I guess some substructuring, like "new coins", "giveaways", "coin accepting/trading sites", "coin mining", "general discussion", ...  would help considerably.

I agree with you. How we can highlight the issue to the admins?

It has been highlighted in meta a dozen or more times.  The view of the admins is that this forum is Bitcointalk, and anything non Bitcoin related is off topic.  The altcoin sub forum is the same as the off topic subforum it exists for the SOLE REASON of making the mods jobs easier.  If there was no altcoin and off topic sub forums people would still post about altcoins and other off topic posts but it would just be spread out all over the forum and would lead to more mod work.

It is NEVER going to change.

guess what OP.

you were late almost two years. this place was never such place you described, even before.

wat. people are launching altercoins non-stop and spaming it here all this time?

LOL arent you the one that wanted to leave cuz people hate on doge  Roll Eyes the biggest spam coin ever on bitcointalk  Roll Eyes  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I'll leave when I want. And yes I get mad on ppl bashing doge because it started as joke that people liked not a scam coin to lure bitcoiners.

yes dumbass, people been launching altcoins left and right for years. a good chunk of them failed.

doge is no different. it's not something that's technically different. it's just one shit after another.

We need giveaway threads to be put in its own subforum immediately.  That should clear up about half the spam.

noobs need to be kept locked up in noob jail for 2 months before being released. Then be terminated if they start spamming new coins out straight away.

Please.

Do you not realize that these altcoins are a way around btc's difficulty?

No longer a place to discuss about alternative cryptocurrencies but to PR your newest copied and paste coin, No longer a place where the community choose the best for whatever reason, but where people spam non-stop about the "next big thing" and "0% pool fees", No longer a place where we point the obvious scam and backstabbing schemers but where the cult followers stealthily interject every reasonable discussion...

Unfortunately, this is exactly what the owners of Bitcointalk want. It's been discussed many times, Theymos actively does not want to support the 'alt-coin' section. The answer has always been "This is BITCOINtalk". So yeah, too bad no one ever bothers with other forums.

I wish there is a way to ignore all posts from "Alternate cryptocurrencies" from ever appearing in my "Show unread posts since last visit". BTC is littered with "yet-another-coin" give aways and "to the moon" posts Undecided

There is set the subforum to ignore in your profile.

This is the bitcointalk.org forum. Generally, mods do not wish to give altcoins more room. Maybe someone might want to start a separate forum.

The "altcoinstalk.org" domain is free.

As many have said already, BCT has made it clear where it's centre of gravity is.

What amazes me is that there is already a well organised forum that covers all alt coins and you guys don't seem to mention it!!!

I've got no personal relationship to this other forum but I do respect the effort that's gone into structuring it and keeping it up to date. It also seems to address pretty much every wish-list item that gets raised in these types of threads/posts for alt coins.

It already has:
- blog section
- general section
- integrated chatbox/shoutbox
- individual hosted forum sections for coins that want to use it to host their own forum
- sub forum sections with information and discussion on other coins and links across to the relevant resources for them
- section dedicated to giveaways and contests
- decent number of readers and would benefit from more posters (i know not in BCT league yet but well established nonetheless )

It's run by someone who actively maintains and develops it and dedicates much of their own time making sure it stays relevant, he does that without even accepting donations at the moment! As others have also said in previous threads there is room for both of these types of communities anyway.

As a constructive suggestion, could I suggest that if these types of threads ever start again then as a community of alt coin supporters we point people to CryptoCoinTalk.com

I'm sure the powers that be here on BCT and CryptoCoinTalk won't mind me posting that, ultimately it should benefit both communities.

Does that help the discussion?

I agree with this. I hope people will gradually migrate to the more general crypto forum. I just registered an account there.

It's unrealistic to expect significant improvements in this sub-forum. It's pretty clear the site operators have more to gain from promoting bitcoin than having forum traffic for things that could be substitutes for bitcoin.

The only thing they need to do is making subforums within the alt section. That would solve everything.

Altcoin child boards are not going to happen. Mods have made that very clear.

And cryptocointalk is not as active a forum as here

Well, you can help with that Wink

It does. I'd never heard of that forum, but I'll keep it in mind when this issue once again rears its ugly head.
