Couldn't hurt to design a sign with a QR code and a Bitcoin logo, I assume this is allowed by Uber, since it's about the same as someone tipping in cash.

Keep us updated if you've done this and post something after you've received your first tip in BTC Smiley

I'd be delighted to find an Uber / Grab driver that accepts bitcoin, both as payment and even as a tip. It would be worth a conversation piece while I am travelling to my destination. For those who are still unaware of bitcoin, a small sticker signage or even a die cut one would really get the attention of the passengers and could arouse their curiosity about what bitcoin is.

It's a good idea to use bitcoin as tipping at Uber will make bitcoin more famous. But the problem is whether the deal can be done very quickly in a matter of seconds? Because if the payment can take up to 5 minutes and the person is in a hurry I guess that would be disturbing. And what will be many who use bitcoin as a payment tip? Because if you live in an area where the bitcoin is still a bit to be sure there will not be paying with bitcoin or very few people who use it.

I started to drive with Uber on my spare time and I am trying to come up
with and idea that promotes customers to tip with bitcoin.

Other drivers say they put a sign in their car that states tips are not included in
fares and are appreciated based on your experience. Maybe I can make
a QR code and post it for them to copy? Any ideas?

Cool. This will work my friend. I will be waiting for you in news where you discovered about it.  Grin We know they dont get much tip because of the exact fare so this could really work.

A QR code is the best idea.

I`m not sure that there are many bitcoin users who use Uber.

Anyway,it doesn`t hurt if you try.

You should probably stick sticker "Tip with bitcoin" and so on with barcode, near the customer either in a window or on a chair.

your idea is good but I dont think uber will like the idea of you getting tips in bitcoin. Are you in some sort of contract with them?I dont know how they work in your country but here in my country they have deal with local taxi drivers and they have to follow fares set by uber and if some driver charges extra, they revoke their agreement

They are not charging anything extra, because tipping is voluntary. Nobody are going to force you to leave tips. My kids worked in some restaurants when they were still studying, and the owner stated that they were not allowed to ask for tips, but if they receive tips, they could keep it.

If Uber have no rules regarding tipping, this should not be a problem. ^smile^

Tipping uber drivers would be really good in helping Bitcoin achieve the most coveted "circular economy". To make people spend Bitcoin, a person must earn it by providing a service, as his or her salary and earn them by selling goods. Bitcoin's adoption problems are not in the spending part, it is in the earning part. How can a massive amount of people earn Bitcoins when Bitcoin paying jobs are almost non existent?

OP's idea is a good one and I like it but I'm sure other people will have other ideas too. So please post them here and let is talk about it.

Exactly! If you earn your bitcoins like any other currency it will already have a value to you. Time is money really, so if you're spending your time offering a service and someone gives you a 1mBTC tip you're bound to use it like any other currency by either spending it or saving it.

I think in Argentina, uber drives are accepting bitcoin btw, don't remember all the history behind this...
Yeap, QR code is a good idea for tips.

Uber does not accept bitcoin at all.I googled it and I found they just accept xapo debt card as this site mentioned so I do not see any bitcoin transaction here to say they accept it.

Eh... I don't know whether or not that's a good idea to be honest. If you're willing to take some flak for it if people in your area aren't a fan of it, then go ahead. I personally think it is going to be fairly useless unless you live in an area that you know has a lot of Bitcoin users.

first of all, they need their bitcoin wallets to accept a bitcoin tip, otherwise, how could they even get a satoshi? they could just get an address on blockchain or somewhere, then accept it. and yet bitcoin is not yet popular in uber.
I agree with you, it's can't for happen for directly inside the situation. the customer needs for providing some requirement before and I think this trick just be useful if the driver is wanna trying for teach them before using their service and waiting for several times.

A printed QR code is a great way to send a tip.
Very easy and most people that use Bitcoin will probably have some kind of smarthphone and an app that can send Bitcoin.
Now we just need an easier way for the driver to turn their coins into cash and this would be a huge market that would expand the number of Bitcoin users.

Do you mean turn their bitcoins into cash? That's the exact opposite of what you'd want if you want more bitcoin users. If I want people to use a Canadian Dollar as currency I don't go trading every Canadian Dollar I have to a US dollar do I?

Might not be a bad idea, I think it would be an interesting experiment, however, don't make it something that gets in your client's faces and have it be a nice addition off to the side. It might be a good idea to put it at the bottom of a sign you might have already placed, if you have one.

QR code would be a must but expect to not get a lot out of it. And expect to give really good service constantly.

I agree that the idea is good, but I think Uber drivers should be introduced to bitcoin first, maybe with some seminar or any way like that? In addition, I'm also thinking about the passenger, not all people knew about bitcoin, so how do they send a tip if they have no idea if what is that in the QR code (even it has a logo of BTC). If both will not know what bitcoin is and how it works, the idea won't be possible to implement IMO.  Huh

Some Uber drivers are known to print QR Codes and stick them somewhere on their cars... So I guess you can simply go with the trend.
