Some country doing these. Especially those big companies, they cut or waive the rent already for some business firms residing on their property. I was thinking, how about those students that stranded on some rented house, even though they are supposed to go back, some havent did since they arent allowed due to locked down. Also how about the owners of those who are just getting their money from these. I do hope government have solution for everyone. But I admired those people who extend their help frok those affected.

This is correct when it comes to those guys who lost their earnings due to quarantine. But when it comes to commercial leases, everything is not so clear. As far as I know luxury rental in toronto still in demand as housing for trade representatives. If the government helps pay the rent for these few months, that would be cool. However, it is better not to live dreams but to negotiate with landlords in each case.

The Covid -19 epidemic is causing a serious shut down of the economy worldwide. This is really serious that it is causing fear and attendant hardship.

I was thinking it would be nice to also show a measure of help to people inhabiting your premises and properties. You can support them in terms of cutting down their rent payment for this season that they stayed isolated at least they were unproductive especially those whose livelihood requires them to go out daily for "daily bread".

I heard some governments are supporting with feeding but I think individuals too can support by cutting down rent at this time that your tenant is unproductive.
Thank you man, you just said my mind. As much as I want this to happen, the sad truth is that there are some landlords who are so greedy and wicked, they will never agree to cut down on the rate that tenants are paying for rents, because their greediness will never let them.

I wish that the government themselves will enforce this kind of rule and since people are not working at this point of time, it’s best that the rate for things be cut down to a smaller rate that most people will be able to afford. At this point of time people really need serious help.

Even landlord now are carrying this crisis but its better to at least take Half of the rent just for this pandemic quarantine then after so we can back to normal.
I do think everyone and everything should be making a little contribution. We need to simply become one with the rest and come up with a selfless act. If the tenant is indeed not earning a penny while the lockdown is going on, the landlord could of course cut the rent down or even make it free. But it has to be according to his economic capacity as well because it could mean that he will not be earning also if in case all his tenants are not earning. It has to be a two-way flow. And the government should also be coming in for some necessary assistance.

Exactly. Through selfless acts we help each other survive and may not even realize it. It's one of the best ways to survive in crisis periods without exposing yourself to even bigger dangers. In such times, I would seriously avoid owing debts to imperfect things with the propensity to do/become evil. I would have to be sure of paying back the debts before borrowing.

Only JESUS can save you in this case, if you sincerely accept HIM, believe and do HIS teachings(believe and live according to his words). In HIM Alone we find safety. 100% guarantee! Don't go back to your old bad ways again and you are totally safe...

Yes, this is why I think every homeowner's rent should be forgiven during this crisis Because now there are so many poor people who are rented out that they can't afford two crises at once. If you can not get out then how to eat and how to rent if you do not work In this case the government should take this step Every landlord should be instructed to waive their rent so that they do not have the opportunity to do such a business.

Here in India, very few of the landlords accept any form of digital payment. 90% of them want the rent in hard cash, because they never show this income in their IT returns. In metro cities such as Bangalore and Chennai, the situation has become really exploitative. The landlords demand one year rent in advance, if you want a decent house in a safe neighborhood. And the COVID 19 outbreak has made no impact on these exploitative practices.
Seriously? they don't have compassion to their renters while on experiencing this crisis? Well, it's business for business and I understand if they do think like that and the point here is they should've just consider what OP is suggesting. Though this won't reach them but if they have care for other people and the people that's making their business lucrative, they should have thought of that. But if they don't, there is no forcing and it's business as usual for them.

Government should give all the necessary things that people need its an emergency so provide them  what they actually need even food so they can live while there are people who cant work . They can even pay for the rent of those tenant if they want to. So people will not force to leave thier home just to earn money for thier food and medical needs .

Great suggestion you draft out here, times of pandemics like these are the best for humanitarian services and i can perfectly say that influential and rich people are already giving back to the people. Jack ma, Chinese e-commerce billionaire donated millions worth of medical facilities to Africa countries to help them fight against corona virus. Footballers such as Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo donated millions to help support their countries during this hard time. The question now is, are we personally doing anything to help the needy around us?

From today our city ( whole country is also locked down) is locked down for 10  days and the government has declared general leave for the employers of Govt and non Govt institutions. Few land lords has cut down monthly rent of March. Others should do this noble action now for the shake of humanity. We are now locked at home from today. I will pray for the whole human being that may Allah save us from this Corona Virus.
Tenants will surely appreciate if all landlords will learn to consider helping their tenants through giving them a one month free rental. Majority of the people today are facing financial crisis particularly for those who make living outside their homes so it will be a big help for them if landlords will be considerate this time.

First and foremost: this is the wrong subforum... It should be in offtopic or politics and society...

My opinion is a mix of things already said in this topic... My wife and I bought an appartment in a nearby city when the interest rates were low... We fixed it up ourself and we use the complete rent AND some of our own money to pay of the mortgage, keep the property in good shape, pay the extra taxes we have to pay, pay for an insurance,... Even with the rent, it costs us about ~€300/month out of pocket, but that's OK, our tenant still pays the complete interest + part of the loan.

I'd love to be a rich guy having 50 apartments, choosing between the 4 cars in my garage while one of my maids cleans the house... But the reality is that many landlords cannot afford to lower the rent. Sure, i could lower the rent by 100 or maybe 200 euro's/month, but any lower than that and i would be working for both my family AND the family of my tenant. I pay taxes to provide for a social security system. I pay a lot of taxes... I pay taxes when i make money, my employer pays extra taxes on top of this, i pay taxes when i spend money, i pay taxes when i die, i pay taxes for any piece of property i own, i pay taxes for the interest i get when leaving my money in my bank account... Sorry, i'm not going to support both my family and the family of my tenant that might be in troubles because of the covid-19 epidemy... He should receive help, but he should receive the help from the community... He payed taxes, he should receive benefits because he's locked in, it's not up to me to save him by myself.

I realise it's an unpopular opinion, but the idear that landlords are rich dudes rolling around in cash they squeeze out of their tenants is incorrect in a large portion of the cases.

I rent a room here in the city. The owner is currently living in America. The one in charge here is the sister of the owner. They have more than 20 rooms for rent, owned 3 to 4 car and have a canteen. No doubt they are rich. But they did know the word consideration. They strictly check that we are going to pay our rent for this month or else there will be a 500 pesos penalty.

And what's next? Free food?

I think the economy shouldn't stop for a crisis like this,

Really.... This is a virus that is transmitted to human and there is panic and fear so many people are not investing again and naturally, the economy will be shut down by itself. In this case, the government won't even need to make a legislation about shutting down but people are not ready to put in money.
and besides this is not an ornidary flue its virus that can easily be transmited to other people . They need to protect them self for the virus and no one is immune with that virus even politician can also be infected even royal family is now infected with that virus what do you think people will do to survive?

They will secured the money for another day expenses than pay the landlord for the rental. You should. Understand that they also i need in this situatuion delaying the payment for rental or cut it to half is really big help for them.

Im a tenant and would like to here a good news from our landlord that he would not charge us for a month or atleast giving us a discount for the time being.

But its understandable if he cant do that because everyone are having a hard time (unless you're from a well-off family) due to the lockdown. Thats why in time like this those who have savings can survive, but if you're a kind of person who dont save then its really a problem if an unexpected situation like this occur.
