Hi, everyone. I got about $5000 to invest in crypto. Which one is more secure and profitable: trade crypto (yes, I'm a newbie) or invest in ICO?
I've made my own research and investing in several ICO's seems more attractive for me, but want to know your opinions Wink

Both have high risk actually. But in trading you can control the outcome and if you really are good in trading  you can have a steady source of income. ICO comes and go. And you cannot be guaranteed that the project will be successful or the devs will be faithful and will not run with the money. Personally I'll choose trading over ICO because I am in control. But a good ICO can be very profitable if you chose the right project. It is whether you'll choose a steady income or one time big time.

There is a risk involved how ever you proceed.
The risk of losing your money is low for now if you go ahead with buying trusted and heavily exchanged crypto currencies like bitcoin, ethereum or ripple.
In the long run, you will be making some extra money.

In contrast, if you choose an ICO to invest in, the risk of losing money is higher, but if you proceed with choosing the right ICO to invest in, the profit will be much higher.
Just make sure you'll be doing your home work and that you'll be joining a successful ICO program - one that has all the qualifications to go all the way.

One such ICO right now is trade.io.

I would choose investments in ICO. Trading, it seems to me, is much more complicated and requires a lot of time. While selecting an object for investment is easier and the risks are still less.

trading is more profitable than ICOs,because most ICOs are scam.
in trade you can gain upto 1000% in a single trade depends on market behavior.

In ICOs you risk your money for a long time and you are not sure if the coin will be successful.

I actually prefer ICO though. Investing in good ICOs can have high returns  Cheesy but of course bad ones can cause you to lose more than 50% of your capital.

I think trading is better for making short term investment since you can do it at anytime when you like, and ICO is a long term investment since there should will be big profit after some useful product or service are online.

define a ratio of long term and short term, it can be %50 to %50. You can enter mining, ICO or other long-term coins with that, and %50 with short-term trading, there are interesting figures on trading you can lose everything, example NAUT was 180000 and now 900, Or DGB from 80 to 2000 and now 150.

Most of the ICO investment goes to scam project only but trading is not like that and I do not know that how you are comparing ICO with trading they are 50/50 ratio. Try to do trading with the cheap coins as a part and trade the bitcoins. I am sure that they will be able to make the 1 bitcoin or even more in 3 months. If you do changes the value in the trading account frequently then you will be able to make more money.

I think both require some knowledge in the field   and experience. As your are newbie I will recommend you first learn as much as you can from this forum and then try both strategy  make some trading and try pick ICO with real product or prototype. Divide your money on parts  and don't invest more then 10% in one trade or ICO.

What do you think about investing 2500 USD in around 30 of the most important coins (by market cap), e.g. ETH, ETC, XRP, DASH, WAVES, etc.?

if you want to invest the money you have by determining between Trading or ICO? it is good that you learn the best option, either trading or ICO equally profitable, but you should be more observant and meticulous in determining. because every choice must have its flaws and advantages. so you need to be more careful.

I still prefer on trading than investing on some ICOs due to some ICO that are fraudulent which is risky to get out your money and to invest, and you will not easily know that the ICO are legit, because it looks legit but after the crowdsale the developer abandon the project leaving without putting it on some decent exchanges.

Your capital is quite high if its 5k. I would put some of that money Bitcoin and watch it pump slowly until you find the right time to sell and gain profit from it. Or invest in a promising ICO that you feel you can trust!

in last days many ICOs are giving returns and probably some coins ass well so who knows is easier make 2x on popular KYC ICO than trading in kryto environment.
But coins that will give you nice return on money is that much if you will look after them.

Diversify your investments , as they say do not hold all of your eggs in one basket. If one of crypto's is going down youre not going to burn out, as you get more experienced try more risky stuff.

My advice to do both of this. Investment in ICO do not need much time as trading. You can invest in some ICO's and just wait for profit, and the same time you can learning about trading and practicing, so it's up to you.

there are many examples where the coin after ICO increased more 50x, but coin have unique technology, you can buy coins which are already traded after ICO but there has not yet been sufficient growth

With that capital you can do both, but i suggest you invest in an ICO that you believe will work for you, but also buy some Bitcoin for long term investment. Then you have something to fall back upon. When you invest in ICO, be cautious, scams are everywhere.

when you want to invest make sure the ICO is not a fake or a scam project, because some ICO's are fake so when you invest your money it will vanished in one word SCAM, so it's better to becareful and make it sure it's nice project and legit.

What is the best way to figure out if the ICO is scam?

For example I want to invest in Covesting but didn't find them on http://icorating.com
On the other hand, I see that they have strong team and they were reviewed by trusted websites. Could it be scam?

I also checked Indahash they have low risk score in accordance to ico rating. I like the concept and they are already doing business and have revenue.
I think that the best way is to diversify - invest into several ICOs.
