do people honestly STILL download and install software from sources they aren't familiar with?

As someone who is "good with computers" myself I can tell you that it's nearly impossible for hackers to stop those who wish to destroy us. The majority of those who do wrong on the internet know how to protect themselves by using layered proxies like Tor and VPN's.

Really the only people we would be able to stop are those too stupid to use a proxy or those who don't know what activities will give them away while using a proxy (like using flash applications for example).

Other than that the only way to find the wrong-doers is with a LOT of luck and a LOT of time spent sifting through pcap files from the time window an attack occurred at.

Really the only way to protect ourselves and our assets is to focus on preventing the attacks in the first place by constantly checking and re-checking for exploitable code if you're a pool owner, securing your wallet if you're an end-user and using common sense to ensure that we NEVER download/install/open ANY file that comes from ANY source that is not 100% completely trusted by the community AND yourself.

The best I can offer as someone who is "good with computers" is penetration testing to evaluate the security of any given server/box. From there it would be up to a web developer to remove the exploitable code and replace it with secure code.

Any developers who may be interested in such an idea, let me know and we can form a team for anyone who might request/require such services.

If you are sensible and use AV regularly and dont visit dodgy sites you should be ok.  Most people dont have thousands of BTC lying around anyway!

Come on guys, a bit of encryption is ok, but it does't make sense
to go paranoid on the wallet for then use it to pay for a good/service
never fully guaranteed (just as in a non-bitcoin context).

Just have present, when downloading software or visiting sites that
no machine/mechanism exists which returns 2BTC for 1BTC.
Just grandmas give money for free to their grandchilds.

And don't be so scared, the best way to avoid the steal of your coins
is to spend them, so go buying beautiful things and be happy!

Got my wallet encrypted with true-crypt after reading this.

Looking for more secure ways to keep wallet safe though, not ready to pay 0.00001 BTC for online wallet lol.
