It was not a comeback. Trump was always ahead, but the polls couldn't measure his support accurately (just like they miscalculated Bernie Sanders' support levels during the Michigan Democrat primary). The main reason was that in the blue states (such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan.etc), a part of the Trump supporters refused to reveal that they are voting for him.

I personally know two people who immigrated to the US illegally and voted for Hillary during the election. The sanctity of the vote is in no way respected in California and many of the "latinos" that vote from here certainly aren't citizens. This is California, they register people to vote when you get a Driver's License. They issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. All you need is an address here and you'll get registered to vote. Yes they're supposed to confirm citizenship through a SSN, but they don't.
