Speaking of lack of trust, I really don't trust Tim "Tax Cheat" Geithner or Ben Bernanke!   Shocked

having no centralized agent controlling bitcoin is a double edged sword, like OP suggests everybody needs to be careful and MORE knowledgeable.
basically no centralized agent is going to protect you in also in the fine prints.

Trust is always a tricky one, even in real life. It reminds me of a time I tried to buy a camera in a shop in NYC. We agreed on a camera model with a lens and price, then the shopkeeper switched lenses on the camera when my back was turned.

Sadly, even the trusted seller, from a shop could abuse of their position in many case.

Just wanted to say thanks for this. I am new to this thing, and I was worried about putting a lot of money into bitcoins at the risk of losing my investment or something. Obviously, I have a lot of steps to take security-wise.

I wonder if in the long run the different scams and other issues of having to rely so heavily on trust wil not hamper Bitcoin development  Embarrassed

I mean I believe that Bitcoin as a future (I'm about to invest a little in this adventure) but at this point I'm trying to figure out a way to somewhat smoothens the issues around having to trust.

On a side note, sorry if I massacre english a bit. I'm doing my best since it's not my first language.

Regards.
