It is still very doubtful that Bayern Leverkusen will become a big club as the strongest competitor in the Champions League. They performed well in the Bundesliga, but there is no guarantee that next season they will return to playing consistently and remain as champions in the Bundesliga. Especially if we talk about competition in the Champions League which is much more competitive and Man City, which is considered strong, could lose the opportunity to qualify for the semifinals and conversely the team that is not seeded will succeed in advancing to the final.
Even though we cannot underestimate Bayern Leverkusen's ability, if we look at the quality of players and experience, I agree that they will have a very difficult time getting to the quarter-finals or semi-finals next season in the Champions League. The competition in the Champions League is much tougher because there are many strong teams from various representatives and maybe it is not yet time for Xabi Alonso's men to go far there.
It is too early for us to speculate, especially theoretically that there are other teams that are far superior to Leverkusen. not only about the internal team, but also about tactics and strategy, besides the mentality that has been tested throughout the Champions League. but, that does not mean that Leverkusen cannot provide competitive resistance in this competition. but in any case, there are other clubs, although still theoretically superior if you try to compare them. no need to compare it by mentioning several other teams that are always favored, especially Leverkusen has just returned to the Champions League after previously being absent. on the other hand, this competition can be a benchmark for Alonso for his team. how when they face other strong teams outside the Bundesliga, although it will be very difficult for Leverkusen even to reach the semifinals. at least, with Leverkusen's impressive performance last season, the hope is that Alonso and his players can give their best game especially when playing against strong teams. we don't need to talk until the semifinals or finals, we just follow their performance in the group phase later. In addition, several other teams that are not too favored may be able to provide resistance that complicates the progress of strong teams. Moreover, if Alonso is able to bring Leverkusen to go far in the UCL, isn't that an effort and success of the players and coaches. Nothing is impossible, although again theoretically their steps will be difficult in the Champions League competition.
