The Turkey-Austria match ended 2-1 and we won. I think most people were not expecting this result but we won.
Melih Demiral was the star of the night, he scored 2 goals and won the match for us.
Mert Günok made a very good save at the last minute, if he had scored we would have probably lost the match in extra time because our guys were very tired.
Wait for us Netherlands, you are next. I hope we will beat Netherlands in the quarter finals.
Our players need rest. It was a very tiring 90 minutes. The players tried hard. Ferdi and Barış Alper collapsed along with the entire team after the match. They had run so much that they no longer had the energy. A great win. I thought we were unlucky against Austria because we suffered a heavy defeat in the friendly match, but last night we won with a very good game, despite some of our missing players. Now it's the quarter finals. I hope we win and go to the next round. The world giant Netherlands awaits us in the upper round. By the way, it was Mert Günok who made a save in the 90+5th minute that won us the match. He made a save with an incredible reflex. Maybe it will be the saving grace of the tournament.

Austria was the favorite in the Türkiye-Austria match. They took 21 shots during yesterday’s game and produced an expected goals (xG) value of 2.74. However, Turkey pulled off a major suprise, advancing to the quarter-finals by defeating Austria 2-1 in the round of 16 at EURO 2024.

Austria had so many opportunities on that match but they couldn't utilize it but in terms of performance they played very well even more than Turkiye but they weren't fortunate enough, though with the performance of Austria I was thinking at first they will win the match because it was obvious they were more tactical and forceful than Turkiye but I noticed that there defense line was not that strong because that's why Turkiye was able to break them, however I can imagine how frustrating it was for them on that day because they were not supposed to lose the match, however I don't think if Turkiye will be able to survive another round because all the teams that qualified for another round are more stronger than Turkiye.
Yes, we are currently facing quarter-final matches as if we were playing the final of the World Cup. All of these teams are teams that can go to the highest level tours even in the World Cup. That's why the European championship is so competitive. The Netherlands will give us very difficult times with their quality squad, but I hope we will be as lucky as we were in the Austria match and we will advance to the next round. It is exciting that we will go to the quarter finals and watch our team in 1 more match. We beat the Netherlands and France in the past, and we beat Germany in a friendly match. Why shouldn't we beat strong teams again? I believe in our team. Even if they fail, I congratulate them all, at least they gave us the excitement of the Quarter Finals.

Turkey having surprising performance in this game as things were going before match there were mind-set we will have exit for them but against all odds they have done and now having spot into next round which is surely amazing stuff for them and their fans as well which are overjoyed with this big win against Austria very early goal bring down Austrian confidence, and then we have no fight back from them second goal give clear advantage to Turkey which were having good control of the game.

Now they are going to face spirited Netherlands which are having not good start of their campaign but now after beating Romania their confidence level is high, and they can give improved performance in next match as well with chances are having we will have tense match between these two teams with the Netherlands is clearly going to be hot favourite for the game as they are superior team.

in reality I expected it more than a surprise it was a revelation with a coach like that you have to put in a good performance, yes let's say that the Turkish fans complain about the fact that Montella plays a very defensive game, a lock on the goal Italian but in reality I think it is a tactic used and studied precisely against that team and let's also say that it has borne fruit so congratulations to Montella and this excellent Turkey who reached the quarterfinals will face a strong team but has all the cards in store rule to win

With this motivation, our Turkey can also gain an advantage over the Netherlands. Hakan Çalhanoğlu will manage our midfield resistance in the next match. Our forward zone will be shaped with his and Arda Güler's passes. Kenan Yıldız, who has been silent until now, is one of our young talents who I expect to explode in that match. Orkun Kökçü is suspended in the other match and I hope we will see him in the semi-final. Yesterday, the referee officiated a very good match. I hope we can play with such a referee in the Netherlands match as well. The referee hurt us a lot in the Czech Republic match.

Austria were my favourites to win that game, they had my support due to their performance in the tournament, but Türkiye took me by surprise by scoring an early goal which made me took my chances to bet on them in the live game and it payed off, before the match I expected Austria to win by 2-1 but it played the reserve with Türkiye winning and have moved to the next round. Austria really tried, they played good football and fought till the very end to qualify but luck wasn't on their side. They played against a very fit Turkish team that showed composure and were very good defensively, I wonder why Ralf Ragnick decided to play Sabitzer from the flank instead of the midfield position, I feel he would've created more chance if he played from the Midfield, well they've really tried in the competition even though they didn't qualify to the next round.

And here we are, only 8 teams left.
My picks for the winners of the quarter-finals:
Spain
Portugal
England
Turkey

ps, why do English portals spell Turkey as "Türkiye"?? What kind of nonsense is that?
My apologies pawel7777, I’m not Turkish but should a nation wish to change what they’ve been known to go by unanimously to something different, it’s only okay that the rest of us do so. It might take a while for this change to gain wide spread and for users to adapt to it but, it’s far from nonsense. It’s the people, it’s the language and we might as well accord them that.

Your picks are rather interesting and I find a few fixtures to be really difficult to predict and that’ll be fixtures like,
Spain vs Germany
Portugal vs France

France haven’t managed to score a single goal in open play through out the Euros this season but have somehow have the opposition side do the scoring of OG for them. Of course the Mbappe goal doesn’t count in this regard as it was a penalty spot kick.

Portugal however have goals tied to their name. A couple of own goals with at least 3 open field goals. They had a difficult game with Slovenia though.

Portugal might seem the best bet in this fixture, they’ve got the squad to match France and some goal scorers like L. Raphael, J. Felix, Ronaldo and a host of others but, against the might of France with Mbappe, Griezman and Thuram. Odds are in favour of France 2.4+ while Portugal have about 3.6 on them. A draw with 3.1 odd is the option with Portugal to qualify.

Turkiye is really lucky, Austria should have able to beat them, but Austria was just unlucky enough. If the shots by Christoph Baumgartner and Stefan Posch weren't missed, Austria could scored 4 goals.

As for the another match, Netherlands vs Romania, it was obvious Netherlands will beat them.

So, we already have the teams that qualify to the quarter final.

Spain vs Germany
Portugal vs France
Netherlands vs Turkiye
England vs Switzerland

Who do you guys think will win?
The Euro semifinals this time are really interesting, but according to my analysis. Spain vs Germany is a final that is too soon, these two teams should meet in the top match because so far the match between the two teams has been good to watch. I predict Germany will win because I believe the influence of supporters is also very big for Germany who plays as host. Portugal vs France, this is a match with minimal goals because both have difficulty scoring goals. Just look at France being able to qualify for the quarter-finals without ever scoring a single open play goal from their own players even though their squad is good. France only scored three goals, two from the opponent's own goal and one from a penalty. So I prefer Portugal to win this match.

Netherlands vs Turkiye. This is the most exciting match, and maybe Türkiye will give another surprise like when they played against Austria. Arda Guler has had a good impact for Türkiye so far. England vs Switzerland. I don't know what to expect from Southgate, because with the luxury of the squad he has, sometimes he can't utilize his players, so I think Switzerland is quite promising in this match.

After Austria beat the Netherlands, I thought that they would also be able to beat Turkey, but everything didn’t work out in Austria’s favor, Demiral scored a double, it’s very unusual to see a defender score two goals. Austria played very well, but Turkey managed to take advantage of the few chances they had, and now they will face the Netherlands in the quarter-finals. At the quarter-final stage, the most difficult opponent has Germany, it seems to me that Spain is very good now.

Austria beating Netherland looks as if it was pure luck, and you know players have one habit of always underestimating their opponent if not that Netherland was not showing seriousness they would have been able to win Austria because the game even ended 3:2 so their is no much gab in between. Exactly what happened to them with Netherland, Austria was behind with one goal, if it is about playing well they actually played very well against turkey because even the shots on target were massive on turkey but merih scored their Winning goal , football also matters how u utilized every opportunity you have even if the team is better than you, their are ways you can take advantage, only few clubs can take such advantages the earlier the better, Netherland facing Germany is going to be very difficult game but they will find their way out.

ps, why do English portals spell Turkey as "Türkiye"?? What kind of nonsense is that?
Some countries changed their official names in later years and kindly asked everyone to use new one. If you check united nations its also Türkiye there.

Anyways Turkish national team performed very well in first half. Austria's game was pretty locked as Türkiye played with some central midfielders filling gaps of center backs.
In second half Austria used its energy. They played consistently good, deserved to score to be honest. But Turkish defence, even if it was struggling, performed rather good. Merih and Mert were really good in whole match.
We played an excellent defensive game. Both Merih, Mert, Müldür and Bardakçı were perfect. Let's especially talk about Ferdi Kadıoğlu, he broke the running record of the tournament by running 12.2 km. Moreover, he achieved this success in a 90-minute game, not 120 minutes. He plays as a left back, but he is the player who made the most key passes in the tournament. 4 amazing matches for Ferdi. I hope he shows a similar performance against the Netherlands, where he was born and raised. We are very lucky that he chose us and is in the Turkish National team. I hope Merih-Bardakçı will play in the Netherlands match too. They adapted very well.

Turkey secured their 2-0 lead with goals from Merih Demiral in the 57th second and the 59th minute. Austria managed to narrow the gap to 2-1 with Michael Gregoritsch’s goal in the 66th minute. Notably, Türkiye goalkeeper Mert Günok delivered an outstanding performance, making a crucial save—especially from Baumgartner’s header in the 90+2 minute. Mert’s save at was worth 0.94 xG.

I still remember when there where still many who calls Netherland, Holland but now I guessed we all have chosen to stick with Netherlands.
Though Turkey did well defeating Austria which match I just couldn`t predict who would win before the game but I think their coming match against Netherland might likely be their knock out from this tournament. Netherland team as been doing well and when it comes to squad quality they out perform Turkey though this is huge play while team play can help the Turkish team, the Netherland are also not really in this part. I believe in order for the Turkish team to win they will need more luck on their side.

Austria's Turkiye's performance was very composed. Turkiye players performed well in the whole match. Turkiye made very few attacks. However, Turkiye players managed to score two goals. I would say Turkiye won this match because of their strong defense. Austria's players made a total of 21 shots. But the team managed to score only one goal.

The Turkiye team is going to face the strong Netherlands in the next match. I have checked the match statistics between these two teams. The Netherlands vs Turkey matches were very competitive. Netherlands won last match over Turkiye by 6-1 margin. However, in the previous match, Netherlands lost by 4-2. In the last 5 matches both the teams have won two matches each. So it is expected that the next match will be very exciting.
In the group phase Turkey's defense played very badly and they received a lot of criticism and in the round of 16 match against Austria they played very well, this is really quite significant progress for the Turkish team's performance.
This victory was a little surprising because initially Austria was the favorite but what happened was the opposite, I think Turkey's quick goal made everything different and because of this goal it put more pressure on Austria and Turkey played more confidently.

Again and again Arda Güler was in the spotlight in this match, this young player contributed quite a lot to Turkey's victory, he was truly impressive.

The Netherlands will of course be quite a difficult opponent, but Türkiye also has high confidence now.
What happened before I thought would not have a big impact, now everything is different.

Turkey vs Austria was not the most entertaining match: there was a lot of fighting, the teams battled, but compared to the Netherlands game, the difference is noticeable. Three goals were scored from standard positions, and the teams failed to create something significant in the usual game. Turkey was lucky with the first goal, as the Austrians made a mistake themselves. For both teams, getting out of the group is the ultimate achievement.

Your post is nonsense. Internationally, this country is now called Türkiye, not Turkey. Many organizations, including the United Nations and the World Trade Organization, have recognized this. Are you still calling Czechia the Czech Republic? You better get used to it.

Despite Montella's wrong line-up and wrong choices, the players showed great dedication and managed to win the game. It's a miracle that this team is progressing despite Montella. Even if the game is not satisfying, the important thing is to advance in the tournament. Teams like England and France also advanced despite not playing well. I see Türkiye's chances close to the Netherlands in the quarter final.

Turkey defeated Austria yesterday and for me, I’m not surprised with the result of the game because a game is an unpredictable event we don’t know what will happen in the game, many people believe that Austria is going to defeat Turkey in the match but for me, I was expecting turkey to win the match, If we look Austria match against Netherland Austria came out in the game with full confidence and Netherland is not serious in the game and with some mistakes that they are having in the game, Austria came out against Turkey thinking that they are going to win the match but they are shocked when Turkey use the opportunity they have in first minutes to score the first goal.

Both goals were scored against Austria is a corner kick by Arda Guler, those corner kicks are very good and he played it well to create a chance for his teammates to score goals, Arda Guler is very important in Turkey's squad, not only that he is talented but he helps the team to create chances of scoring goals and if you look at his performance yesterday you will notice the way he played and pass the ball to the wing players he is creating a chance for them to score, if Turkey knows how to play very they will have scored more goals against Austria, Turkey really tried because they played and defend well and thanks to their goalkeeper that made a lot of saves in the game.

I didn't even think that the strategy used by Montella could be such an effective strategy and could cause Austria to lose. Türkiye even made a surprise by scoring an early goal. It was a surprise that I really never thought would happen in that match. Austria is a strong club but they had to accept defeat because they were careless at the back.

Now Türkiye has successfully advanced to the quarter-finals and will face the Netherlands. And it will be an equally difficult match. But it could be that a surprise from Türkiye will happen again. This team seems to have a pretty good level of luck. And it is not impossible that Türkiye will be able to advance further, such as to the semi-finals.

If you said the same thing about the group stage I would totally agree. However for this game, I don't think the same. I haven't seen Turkey defense this strong during the whole tournament, I mean especially the first half. Later they decided to play more defensive which helped Austria organize more attacks. But Turkey still did good things in defense and especially Mert Günok's save in the last moment was insane!  Grin

I didn't like Austria's game. It wasn't even near the game they played against Netherlands earlier.

So, we already have the teams that qualify to the quarter final.

Portugal vs France
Netherlands vs Turkiye
England vs Switzerland

Who do you guys think will win?

- Spain - Germany is an early final for me. Both of them are doing great but I think Germany might get past this huge obstacle somehow.
- I wouldn't be surprised if Portugal - France becomes a boring one to watch.  Tongue  I think France will get past by a small gap.
- Turkey have a much more difficult job against Netherlands. I think Netherlands will reach the semi finals if we don't see an unexpected scenario again.
- And England - Switzerland... I think England will find a way to get past them despite playing really boring because of Southgate.

A glorious night for all of Turkey; not just the players as they qualified for the next round. I couldn't believe it myself when I saw them defeat a very stubborn Austria and even more so that they were able to do this with no much tactics to speak of, just defend and press on the counter when they have the chance, unlike Austria who were more rounded.
Football is really an unpredictable sport that's why it's not always safe to bet on the favorites of any match as things can turn around.
Turkey before the tournament began were not able to convince fans with their performance as they were shaky and no one would have tipped them to even make it to this stage.
I feel that it's the teams you least expect to prove something that will shock spectators in this tournament. Judging by the big names that qualified to the next stage, I doubt Turkey will be able to celebrate their victory for long so they just have to celebrate now as long as they can.
I'm sure there are a lot of people here who favored Austria, considering how well they played in the qualifying rounds, my guess was right that there would be a surprise between Austria vs Turkey, I didn't expect the Turkish defense to be so difficult to penetrate, even though the Austrian pressure was very good, the first minute Austria missed with a quick goal that Turkey got, and I didn't expect it to happen in last night's match, Turkey took advantage of the few opportunities very well, I think the best player in last night's match was M.demiral, with two goals successfully bringing Turkey to the quarter-finals.

They face Turkey next, tough match for both ahead. Turkey did really well yesterday,
very gritty performance. I still think the Netherlands will go through.
Turkey are the underdogs in that game, but they were also the underdogs against Austria who have had a good performance in this tournament worthy to improve their football rating. Turkey players pass the ball around very well and put in a lot of passion when they play. If Netherlands underestimate them and the havoc they can cause, they will lose the semi-final place to them. England may also not get to the finals if they are not careful because they have been struggling also in this tournament.

Two great matches yesterday.

The Netherlands have made themselves definite contenders to get to the final at least.
Gakpo has certainly garnered some attention fir himself from that performance.

My only concern for them is that they had so many chances which ended up
near misses, they need to convert more of those chances again.

They face Turkey next, tough match for both ahead. Turkey did really well yesterday,
very gritty performance. I still think the Netherlands will go through.
