@krach. Yes, a rematch versus Anderson would be my first choice if I was his manager or is agent. Assuming that Derek Brunson wins in a questionable way, like Anderson did in their first fight, then we will have another good trilogy!

. I think it's time for the dragon to retire he can't even breath a fire anymore, his prime is fading. Aging can't stop that slowed him and he doesn't have the speed to counter, was destroyed in the octagon, it's too much for me to watch as a fan. To be honest he it's time for him to leave the octagon, legend will be a legend.

Weidman or Rockhold makes a lot more sense unless AS beats Gasltlum.

There are 3 names ranked above him that might help him get there, Chris Weidman, Luke Rockhold and Anderson Silva. All 3 have won their latest fights and fighting Anderson again will give him a chance to retire another Brazilian that might revive his image.

Derek Brunson has knocked out many top notch MMA fighters in the 1st round. I don't think the loss means Machida is done.
The sequence leading up to the finish was Brunson ducking down and throwing a punch that came from far beneath Machida's line of sight where Machida couldn't see it coming. That could have finished anyone no matter how old or young they were. I had Machida winning the fight up until he got KO'ed. Machida still have a few fights left, he can still make a comeback but I don't think Dana White will allow him to headline another event or if Dana will book him again. Machida being absent in the MMA for quite sometime may have affected his performance. My total disappointment is with the outcome of Maia and Covington. Both fighters showed their skills but Maia somewhat looks tired in the 3rd round. Both tried to score by taking turns in trying to take down. I was rooting for Maia on this one.
I wonder what's going on in Machida's head right now. He had been gone from the sport for so long, then came back as motivated to win as ever, maybe more. And then losing in such a fashion.

Lyoto Machida was a good fighter but age and the battles he had being will take a toll and any hard chin will become brittle with age ,the biggest example was Chuck Liddell,he had a great chin when he was dominating and in the back end of his career he started getting knocked out cold with just a touch,he has to retire or fight elsewhere where the competition is less but i am disappointed with Demian Maia as he was gassed out in the first round and went on to loose the fight.It sucks. I don't think he'll come back anymore.
Time to hang the gloves up. He's had a great career already and i was surprised he even came back. It's been a long while and most fighters whose been away that long usually don't have it anymore. One of the best in the division and sad he didn't agree to a fight with anderson before but i think now.the dragon should call it quits

Maybe it's not that he took a time out off the octagon. One of the worst enemy of fighters regardless if its MMA or Boxing is age. They are not getting younger. No matter how long he stayed in the gym, no matter how many hours he sparred with his partner and no matter how good is his team, his body and mind will not work the same way it worked 6 years ago when he defeated randy Couture with a front kick. Machida is still one of the best fighters in my list.It sucks. I don't think he'll come back anymore.

Sadly, i agree with you. Being a fan of lyoto machida, its heartbreaking to see him lose though we have to understand that a lot of things contributed to this loss. He's not getting any younger. He was fighting among legends and hall of famers like himself several yead ago and most of those aren't active fighters anymore. No more comebacks please

always keep in mind that his family belongs to a long line of martial artists, passed from father to son (not really sure, it's the impression I got. Lol). So they're into all that bushido, warrior spirit stuff.

That is 100% true. One controversial & secret training method Lyoto inherited from his warrior spirit ancestors is urine therapy. The practice of drinking one's own piss to gain an athletic advantage. That's one thing people tend not to take into account when discussing the Machida family's warrior traditions and possibly a neglected point. Sports don't get much more hardcore than people voluntarily drinking their own pee.
It is also true that there are other MMA fighters in the Machida family. Chinzo Machida (Lyoto's brother) fought in bellator earlier this year. Chinzo was choked out in the 1st round against James Gallagher. I hope Lyoto does better tonight than his brother did.

The long rest from training and MMA could actually do his body some good. Machida is almost 40 now and his body could need more time to heal and recuperate. Lyoto's been on a layoff for too long. I'd like to believe he still has it but i've seen too many legends get the bad end of not being in a fight for a year or two. Of course the training wpuld probably be intense to get him back to the dragon shape and as a fan, hopefully he'd get to it but i'm crossing my fingers here. It would be good though to see him back in the octagon

I'm glad Khabib isn't retiring yet. He has had many injuries and was on the verge of retiring. Even Khabib's father said he wants him to retire, soon.
I think I'm taking Derek Brunson over Lyoto Machida. Derek Brunson is similar to Phil Davis, except Brunson seems to have better punching power with more finishes and is more dangerous with his hands. Phil Davis vs Lyoto Machida was a close fight. There's a chance that Machida lost his power fighting at 185 pounds. It has been 3 years since he's hurt anyone with his strikes. Lyoto doesn't have Anderson Silva helping him train or prepare for fights anymore. I like to side against the person testing positive for PED's, too.
