It will happen in approximately 1100 blocks. You can't get two different coins in your wallet. Folks who haven't upgraded to 0.10 before then just won't sync.

But, if you compile on linux with the Peter instructions, you will has a Linux binary done.

The proof that assembly is compiled in comes when you run the client with the message. The following of course requires SSE2 support which is enabled by default but will show as disabled without assembly.

And if there was a release for Linux on github, it would have been so much better.
Just saying. I made the old 0.9 version work again. Will update to 0.10 at some point.

Solo mining in 0.10+ codebase requires that you specify an address which is done via the -coinbase-addr command.
Still, you could join a pool and mine UFO.
