@counter: You are welcome. There is also all the talk about gold on the disappeared Malaysian Air flight, and its path intersecting a US military base. But that is more in the rumour/conspiracy department.

Talking about movies :

Niothor, what movie is that? Looks pretty post-apocalyptic. And what does that neatly-landed Mi-24 do in the exact middle of a square. Too neat. Smiley

Not really. Not after US failed to return the gold to German and France (under various pretexts, and not even allowing Germans to inspect their gold reserve in its entirety). Not after all the Lybian gold just vanished into thin air after the NATO intervention.
US can always give an excuse that they were simply safeguarding it on the government's request (omitting any mention of the way said government came to power).

Really just take the gold, man that is some low down dirty sneak thievery.  How in the world is this not on the front page of every paper in the country?  This is baffling that this story didn't get the attention it deserves but at the same time it just seems to be more of the same type of things that goes on these day.

Even the Russians came to know about it only after the entire gold was moved to the US. Then how come the mainstream media could report it on time?

I'm not saying report it "on time"  I'm saying report it in general if that is what you're asking me.  I've not heard anything about it until I read this post.  Also don't you find it odd that they would take the gold?

The operation is strikingly similar to that used to move the entire large gold reserve of Lybia out of the country.

only patriotism I think, but that's not a bad thing

If you are that bad at memory, I'll have to remember you that before this scene:

there was this scene as well:

And remember this? Another attempt to portray that the Russians are rude and uncivilized:

Oh yep, I lol'd from this movies... Cheesy These guys really don't have a clue what would have done to the officers, who have demonstrated such behavior in the foreign country.

USA vs. Vietnam history is full of propaganda movies.

All the battles involving the US have plenty of Hollywood propaganda films based upon them. Remember, the Rambo series itself deals with propaganda from Afghanistan, Vietnam and Myanmar. Add to this other stupid propaganda films such as Rocky and those Chuck Norris movies.

USA vs. Vietnam history is full of propaganda movies. In the real world it was a failure and humiliation for them... Despite the active use of weapons of mass destruction. Many people still suffering from its effects.

Hey, we found one point that we can agree on!

Medvedev is my favourite leader of Russia since... well, let's just say "since".
I think he is the only leader that during his whole period was working in positioning Russia as a diplomatic and agreeable country with only a subtle hint at fangs, should they become necessary. I hoped to see Medvedev for the second term, but Putin was hell-bent on coming back.

What kind of leader would you like to see in Russia? What should his actions and decrees be?
Some argue that Putin is right for Russia at this point in history, that another Yeltsin would have brought Russia do complete ruin and disintegration.
And why does everyone forget Medvedev? I quite like him as a president. He managed to settle the border issue with Norway that no one before managed to agree upon for ca. 80 years before that.

Well your first question was answered by your third line Smiley).
I would love to see a president who cares more about the corruption and the problems in Russian society. And you have to agree there is lot of work there.

I think that this whole show of superpowers flexing their muscles is so yesterday.
Of course , same for his counterparts.
