Yesterday, I went to watch a Ukrainian movie and was pleasantly surprised that it casually mentioned Bitcoin. I know that it's pretty common these days for American TV shows and movies to have some crypto references, but it's really nice when something local follows the trend. Ukrainian movies are generally far from being good, but they're slowly getting there, trying to find their style and place.
The movie is Luxembourg, Luxembourg, and it is definitely one of the best Ukrainian movies so far (but again, the bar is very low), and Bitcoin was casually mentioned in a dialogue. A guy asked his wealthy son-in-law what kind of currency would be a good investment nowadays, and the son-in-law replies that it's Bitcoin because nowadays, Bitcoin rules the world. I was pleased to see such a casual and positive mention in a movie that's not about technologies or finances at all (it's a social tragicomedy or something like a slice of life).
Do you know of local movies that mention Bitcoin? By 'local' I mean those that aren't American or British, not something that people widely watch all over the world.
Hello! this is a good movie, I liked it too. You and I both know that in Ukraine the level of cryptocurrency use is at a very high level in big cities there are a lot of people who own crypto or even donate. I honestly didn't expect to see this topic on the forum)
Cryptocurrency has a very big impact and I think that in the next films and TV shows, mi will be able to see something similar more than once.

I won't be surprised with something like that as I have been watching many movies that mentioned Bitcoin. In my local country, I haven't heard or know any movie that mentioned Bitcoin and it would be great if it finally happen. In that way, I think many people will ask what is Bitcoin and how it works since it's been mentioned in the movie. I don't know about you but I have heard many movies that talk about Bitcoin. I think it will help spread the word Bitcoin and my guess is that some people will get curious about it and starts to search about it.
Until now, in my country, I haven't seen a movie about bitcoin, even if there is a story line built from bitcoin. it could be a story that builds up with negative things because anyone can use it for use connected with corruption cases and it could even be for trading in illegal goods, or even a storyline that has a positive impact. but I really agree with what you said, that always there will be positive things with a movie about bitcoin, because naturally more and more people will want to know what bitcoin is by continuing to look for as much literacy as possible about bitcoin so they can learn more. by itself the spread of bitcoin will grow and the impact on bitcoin will be higher and the value obtained for this development will occur in bitcoin and those who invest will also benefit.

Now, that's something to jot down in the 'surprises' column, my friend! Bitcoin, casually meandering its way into a Ukrainian movie exchange - that's Ground-breaking. However, the tale takes a bit of a detour in my stomping grounds.

Here's the scoop - in my locality, folks harbor a certain skepticism towards the entire Bitcoin and crypto hoopla. Almost like a "crypto-apprehension", perhaps. Hence, you wouldn't stumble upon any local flicks sprinkling in a casual Bitcoin reference, let alone weaving a full-fledged crypto subplot. Our auteurs seem to be marooned in the fiat money universe - could it be a security blanket thing, who can say?

But let's zero in on the real kicker here - the fact that a Ukrainian movie gave Bitcoin its moment under the limelight, albeit brief, is truly remarkable. It’s an ode to Bitcoin's odyssey, a testament to its gradual assimilation into the mainstream. So, kudos to that, Ukraine! The sheer hilarity of this situation has me #LOLing, considering my own country is stuck in the slow lane.

Mmm, here in Spain I have seen a couple scenes from comedies and informal series where Bitcoin (or cryptos) were mentioned but I can't recall all of them: if I'm not mistaken, this figure is mainly used as a resource for easy laughter, as if the person who mentioned this topic in the chapter was not a sensible person.

One of the last times I remember was in a series called "Pequeñas coincidencias" (little coincidences) where a modern hippie mentioned it while the rest ignored him. It is fun, because the other characters see him as an immature green dog, but he lives very well, wealthy and happy, while the rest go through constant difficulties (spoiler: but in the end he doesn't get the girl).

I actually feel your excitement from over here. It may sound common to others but I know it is not trival and that is why you have mentioned it here. Mentioning bitcoin in ones local movies shows that bitcoin awareness is having the needed penetration into other areas outside of the west and it is good and positive sign. Also, I am happy that it wasn't mentioned in a negative way that is for fraud or used by criminals but in a positive way as in for investment purposes. Hopefully, we get to hear more of bitcoin in a positive light. Hey OP, did you care to know who the director of the movie was maybe he or she is a bitcoin enthusiast.
Thank you, I feel similarly about it. I think that it's important for local products to mention Bitcoin because it shows interest and acceptance from within, whereas mentions in international titles can make people feel like it's something potentially cool but very foreign. I checked, and there don't seem to be any news about the director and Bitcoin, so at least he's not public about it. But Bitcoin is fairly popular in Ukraine overall, and people generally have a neutral or positive attitude to it (including public officials and parts of the government).

Perhaps they aspire to become their own version of The Simpsons, and that's not a bad thing either. Surely you all are aware of various film marketing strategies employed to captivate their audience. This film will gain immense popularity and attention, eventually going viral when the price of Bitcoin skyrockets to unimaginable heights. TikTok snippets will be created, featuring scenes from the Ukrainian film you watched, becoming trending content.

The Simpsons have also employed a similar technique to predict future events. Although many of their predictions have yet to come true, the animation gained tremendous traction when one or two incidents actually correlated with the animated series.

I would be thrilled to see the Ukrainian film you watched go viral in the future. It would signify a new all-time high for Bitcoin.

I believe the majority of citizens in Ukraine are already familiar with Bitcoin. Therefore, it doesn't make much of a difference whether Bitcoin is mentioned in movies or not. It becomes more significant to incorporate Bitcoin into contexts where it is less known, as this indirectly promotes its adoption. There are already numerous movies and news channels that frequently discuss Bitcoin, so its mention in such mediums is no longer particularly intriguing.

the film is the best educational medium because many people get a lesson when watching a film, in my country there are several films that casually offend Bitcoin and that adds to the impression that Bitcoin is the future, in the future we will definitely see more and more films that offend bitcoin (whether local or international film).  the film "Banking on Bitcoin" which appeared in 2016 made quite a stir and after that, there were several controversial films that touched on Bitcoin (the last film i know is the film "Crypto" which appeared in 2019)

Thanks for your replies, everyone. It was interesting to hear a few titles and see that mainly there isn't much info on movies that aren't US-made or UK-made that mention Bitcoin. I've seen various US movies and TV shows especially that mentioned Bitcoin, but not the stuff made by other countries in other languages.

Bitcoin is not prohibited in Ukraine even before the war started by Russia. I don't know how many Ukrainian movies in which Bitcoin is mentioned?

Is this movie the first local movie that mentions about Bitcoin?
To be honest, I haven't seen a lot of Ukrainian movies, so I'm not sure if it's the first. This one mentions Bitcoin, but this fact didn't make the news. Now that you've asked, I looked into it a bit and found an article from 2019, and it mentions 3 movies that mentioned Bitcoin.

The mention of bitcoin in movies is nothing new, and nothing to be surprised about, you should have heard bitcoin mentioned in millions of movies, except you are the type that watches a movie maybe once on six month.

Both on local and international level, the mention of bitcoin is pretty common, here in Nigeria, several Nigerian movies I've watched mentioned bitcoin, and there Is one which seems like an American movie which I am still looking out to watch when I have time, the title is Bitcoin heist.

Not really sure if bitcoin has been mentioned in our local movies, perhaps it might have been, but maybe I'm not aware of it. Reason being is that bitcoin is very open in our country and adoption is slowly growing and the government doesn't have any problems with crypto as long as they are being regulated and exchanges are getting their requirements.

So it's good to hear that in your local movie industry, it's also slipping in and maybe who knows, the director or the producer is also a bitcoiner and subliminally sending messages to the movie goers about bitcoin and the potential of it to disrupt everything.

I think I've never seen a Ukrainian film so I can't judge the quality but now that you make me think about which local film mentions Bitcoin I'm pretty sure that here in Italy some films have done it, I just have to try to remember which one it is.  As soon as I remember, I'll let you know.

Bitcoin is not something new anymore as so many persons already know that bitcoin is the best investment that one can ever think of in these present days. People knows the value of bitcoin and you shouldn't also forget that the films that we watch is always teaching us about something or sending a message to us. Most films are educative,so I am not surprise to hear this. Very soon the truth will be known worldwide about bitcoin as the most valuable assets because some people only learn and believe on what they see or watch on films, since these actors are highly influencial. I have watched my local film when bitcoin was mentioned but the film is not popular.

I don't know any local movies that mention Bitcoin. And I think it seems that there is common for some dialogue between movie stars that mentions Bitcoin because if I'm not mistaken, I've seen it in a few movies but I forgot the title.

And if more of those films have dialogue that mentions Bitcoin, people can get curious and search for it on search engines. This will fuel the growth of people who know crypto or Bitcoin first. And it's good for adoption at the local level, meaning people around who are starting to know about bitcoin or crypto.

Bitcoin has been gaining traction in popular culture ever since. But actually, when it comes to bitcoin, there's often a negative portrayal of it in the media, which is often influenced by the particular plot and story being told. This negative depiction stems from the early adoption of Bitcoin by several online marketplaces that facilitated the sale of illicit goods and services. Although Bitcoin has grown far beyond its original reputation, its connection to criminal activities persists in popular culture. Hence the acts of money laundering and illegal transactions related to bitcoin contained in many works of fiction.

Actually bitcoin is mentioned quiete a lot in current TV series and movies, much more then I feel like it is talked about it in real life. Maybe it is because especially TV series always try to catch up new stuff to stay innovative and modern. It is always appreciated if they mention bitcoin in a positive way, since this is often not the case. Mostly bitcoin is talked about as the currency of illegal deals.
I have not see a movie especially local movie bitcoin been mention, most at times where people do hear of bitcoin is from social media, because the reason why people doesn't include bitcoin in their local movies is because of some of the countries doesn't support bitcoin and mentioning name of bitcoin will be against the law of country fails to legalise bitcoin, so most Hollywood and nollywood industries doesn't do what will make government of their country to rise against them, most of the people who knows bitcoin have the experience of bitcoin through social media

I haven't come across any movie where bitcoin is talked about or mentioned in my locals but some time last last year when the price of bitcoin was around 12k and 16k, a lot of local content creators in my area was mocking bitcoin investors using their content because they felt the price of bitcoin will not rise again. I believe some movie producers are yet to talk about bitcoin in their movies because my country is not yet in support of bitcoin even though the country is one of the most users of bitcoin in Africa.
