That was a good post sirsmokesalot, balanced, sensible, informative.

I just want to add some math to the concept of Proto losing test-net value once monetized, because apparently to some it was a concern a month or two ago. First, Proto is already monetized since it is traded on Cryptopia. Though it is not listed on coincap.io, coinmarketcap.com, and the market price is not discussed much at all. The price is fluctuating around 1% of UNO's, giving it a market cap of $3,000. This means that tests would be 100x cheaper on the Proto network than the UNO network. Preferably it would be infinitely cheaper (free), but look at bitcoin, much of the stress tests lately have been on the main chain and cost perhaps tens-of-thousands-of-dollars. Although these 'stress tests' have also been called 'attacks', and of course attacks would have to happen on the main chain, but I digress.

Now, let's look at the cost of network testing. A single UNO transaction typically costs 0.0001 UNO, or $0.000155 each. A Prototanium transaction therefore costs ~$0.00000155 each. Now, let's say that a dev or institution decided to execute an experiment which required 1,000,000 transactions, which would likely be on the high end of the spectrum given that the current UNO network only handles ~80 transactions per day. So this 1 million transaction test would cost $155 on the UNO network and $1.55 on the Proto network. A large-scale experiment on the Proto network would cost the same as a slushie from 7/11, this is not a problem.

Granted, once such tests are desired or required, the UNO market cap would likely be significantly higher, but my point still stands. Even if a test involved destroying hundreds of coins, it would still only cost a few dollars on the Proto network, not an issue.

Case closed? I think so  Smiley

Hagbard also launched FlaxScript, and nobody seemed to upset about that. But innovate with Uno, and people get upset. Go figure.

He simply created a wallet for the testnet. OOOO ahhhh, i'd buy that for a dollar! (r.i.p smash t.v, best arcade game ever)

No one was upset with flax because it is its own thing. There is nothing to get upset about. It didn't add any more confusion into the branding of Uno.

Did any harm come from Proto? No, not at all. Did any good come from it? I am sure someone would contend that something did but really, no, nothing came from it. It was just pointless either way.

It was nice for him to come back into the community, to make an appearance; at least during that time. We needed the morale boost as that was still close to the mm fiasco (not really but hyperbole is fun). Hopefully he is still around and doesn't need us to stroke his ego to continue 'innovating'. I am glad he released a wallet that was more a return to the older style, that was his best new contribution imo. I guess you could say proto was an innovation because no one else has it, but maybe there is no demand for it, and that is why no one else has it?

To touch upon what nat is saying, i don't disagree that it has uses. I think that the type of people who would use the testnet wouldn't be the type concerned about gui wallets. I guess if we really wanted to be dreamers we could claim that maybe it could bridge the gap and allow people to poke around in the testnet where without the wallet, they might not have? The testnet was/is always there. It exists for all coins, no? He didn't create a testnet(well yeah he did when he created Uno if ya wanna split hairs lol), just made it more accessible. I feel like it might attract unwanted attention to the testnet for people who might wanna monetize the testnet. If that were to ever happen the testnet would lose a lot of the utility it has as it would no longer be 'cheap' to test things. All speculation.

Oh ya our test-net! How could I forget?

It may seem 'useless' to some now, but it's actually great!  You can do a network stress test, or experiment with gathering dust transactions in a wallet. It also sets us up for smoother growth in the future: Merchants, banks, governments or organizations can do preliminary tests on the Unobtanium network cheaply (Well it would be cheap to do that on UNO now, but Proto would be even cheaper for mega-scale tests). Also, if a hard-fork is ever needed or devs want to code special features, we have a network to test them on!

It's another tool, another bridge, another level of safety. Looking back on some of the reactions; I'd be a little disappointed too if I designed that and got such a reception from some. I think it's great though & really hope that HagbardCeline continues to innovate in this space.

I'm glad Blazr2/HagbardCeline is still interested in enough in crypto to continue learning and innovating.    Two years after coin launch, I'd wager that 95% of original coin devs are nowhere to be found.

Hagbard also launched FlaxScript, and nobody seemed to upset about that. But innovate with Uno, and people get upset. Go figure.

By the way, if you're interested, he launched  Offerings to Cthulu (OFF, quark), 23Skidoo (CHAO, sha256), FlaxScript (FLAX, god knows what this is), Prototanium (PR, sha256) and Unobtanium(UNO, sha256) are all traded on Cryptopia. He also created some coins for hire in 2014, but I don't have full list of those).  Those listed here are his labors of love.  He's into crypto for the art, the fun, the learning.  Clearly, not for the money.

Who were we talking about getting invited to Consensus? 'Blazr2' has not posted in this thread for 11 months...Where is that quote from IMZ? I can't find it anywhere else.

Edit: The quote appeared with Google, just not Bing. I use Bing for those rewards points but it does seem inferior when you're looking for obscure stuff.

His post is here, followed by several of us discussing/supporting it: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.11975846

*shakes head* That was right in the midst of a Gekko tantrum. Then I chime in about the price like a schmuck, I guess I was excited about starting a big position but I wish I would have seen the importance of what Hagbard was saying. If he had announced that within the last month and knowing a little about Consensus 2015 I would have definitely donated. I really hope he went but it doesn't seem like it, I can't find anything about a merge-mining talk or Unobtanium in the Coindesk reports.

I wonder what he was talking about on the next page as well, something new involving Unobtanium that no other coin has done...

I didn't realize how important Hagbard is (I guess I'm fairly new to this community), but now that I see what he was doing and that he hasn't been here in a month since reacting to a little trolling, I want him here Smiley Please HagbardCeline and Siameze, come back, I'll give you UNO and chocolate covered strawberries.

We've got some really great people in this community, we've got to stick together and appreciate each other's contributions.

That reminds me, I still haven't tipped Cryptapus like I said I would, will not forget.

the something new was prototanium (aka uno testnet) that upset a few people.

if im not mistaken, ive not been paying much attention the last month or so

Here's another Chinese exchange with some major volume http://www.jubi.com/ ($1,600,000 of sharkcoin volume?)

We could e-mail them about adding Unobtanium, but we may need a speaker of Chinese to do it. [email protected]

I never did hear back from Yunbi.

Some other options:

Indonesia: https://www.bitcoin.co.id/

TheRockTrading: Has Euro pairs and "looking forward to increase our Virtual Currency Exchange capacity." https://therocktrading.com/ That sounds promising, and don't you think "The Rock Trading" Should offer "The Rockchain"  Wink

HitBtc: https://hitbtc.com/ Also offers Euro pairs and only 0.1% fees.

Edit: I just sent a tweet to 'bitcoin indonesia' and a bitcointalk message to The Rock Trading.

Welcome to the new faces.

Natmcoy, that exchange with bitjohn is priceless. You're right on. Hackers already know there's lots of coins at Cryptsy.  Why try to hide an obvious fact. The published volume gives it way.

Not only that, but they also added a "Trader Leaderboard" feature recently. Apparently they don't want to make it easier for people to know how much is in the Cryptsy vaults but they're fine revealing the best user accounts to hack  Roll Eyes

It is "opt-in" which is good, but the contrast with BitJohn's poor reasoning is just silly.

Congrats IMZ! That's fantastic that you are out! It must feel great.

Consensus 2015 was last week. I guess he didn't go or we would have heard about it? It would have been a good opportunity, apparently some major players were there (American Express, CNBC, IBM, Bloomberg, Paypal). I guess if UNO value shoots up soon we'll know that one of those guys bought a few thousand coins with their pocket change  Wink Seems like a massively wasted opportunity if he was invited to talk and didn't attend  Angry

Morning, K.S. [Not boring for me. I'm outa The Big House!]

This is H.C.'s post a ways back:

"I have been invited to attend Consensus 2015 in September in New York City and speak about Un and its relationship with Merged Mining--it could do Un some good to get some more main-stream exposure. I've already sold a bit of Un to pay for the registration fees but the price of lodging and travel is fairly high from my side of the US to New York and I am looking to raise a bit more to book a flight and hotel."

[EDIT] We should ask H.C. for a report for whatever birthday publicity we undertake.

Ya, a little boring on the forums but markets saw a few decent buys. Price is creeping back up, we'll see if we keep going or if mystery-dumper makes another appearance, hopefully he's out of coins because the sell side is drying up nicely.

By the way, this is Cryptsy's lame response to my suggestion that they add distribution data like Bittrex.

I kept a friendly tone after that but it is a bit frustrating. They just added a feature to accept more money for coin promotion but don't use their coding talent to improve the user experience or give traders access to more information.

boring day for UNO.  appropriate that this is the first rainy day we've had where i live in many months.

wish i had all the money so i could buy all the Un.  I'm overdue for a metal purchase, tho, so not gonna be taking any chunk out of the sell orders this pay cycle.

hey, when is that conference thing in NYC that Blazr is going to?

re: support mode

You'll see when it happens, if you're trading UN on a regular basis you are very much aware that the style of trading has gone thru various modes or stages.  A while back the potatoheads battled long and hard with the turtles.  Lesson learned (at least for me) build a wall of support (which we did) and some jerk will smash it down.  So now the consensus seems to be take the market low and rebuild the wall at the absolute very bottom.

But UNO is not a one market coin.  So we have that going for us too.

But eventually (just my guess) is that the Turtles will be able to post on the public books solid and consistent levels of support ... as yet unseen in 99.9% of crytop world ... UN stands to have figured the means to hold the long line.

personally i am in buy mode if i have bonus btc to spend and un is under .015

re: the greatest poker game ever

un has nothing in terms of bluff, the basic numbers and facts are straight forward, 2 years to mine 4/5ths in likely one of the fairest mine operations ever conducted, then just 9 generations of hoomunz to mine that last 1/5th.

but look at Ripple (75% a couple whales), stelllar (95% whales), chinese fake volume exchanges, YB, NXT, banx, even bitcoin ... lots of smoke and misdirection ... UNO is one of the few sane zones in the top50 range.

Cryptopia still has 0% fee trading for all Uno markets.

Whoops!  I am wrong. They reimplemented their .2% fee today.
free trading was nice while it lasted.
