Look like the down pressure is gone for now. Someone's  changed his mind. I wonder for how longer? Cool

Strange situation on my computer, I don't know how this could have happened.  Someone has managed to transfer uno funds out of my wallet.  The wallet was locked with my passphrase.  The passphrase is long and complex, so I thought it was quite secure.  I noticed something strange about a week ago when the blockchain needed re-uploading from scratch.  I waited for it to upload (I don't use this computer much so it took about a week) and today discovered the wallet had been emptied.  The interesting thing is as far as I can recall I have not unlocked the wallet for quite sometime almost 6 months, so it most likely would not have been a key logger.  The amount taken was 93.79 uno, disappointing but not a major setback.  The machine will need rebuilding though which will be a headache.

I've been mulling over your 'breach' and I thought I'd post my thoughts.

#
It seems likely your computer was Trojaned. Remote access seems the most likely scenario considering your password and infrequent use of the machine.

I don't think this is a targeted scenario, your have to few coins and the attacker fudged the UNO wallet. I'd suggest tracking down any recent files, drivers, bots, scripts you may have used recently.

The fact the wallet got 'pooched' seems to speak about incompetence on the 'hackers' part.

Any 'hacker' who could remote access your system could educate themselves regarding UNO in the time it would take for you to re download the blockchain.

Hopefully this helps locate the issue. Nothing worse than not knowing how they got in.

Ha ha ha!

And you think I'm tough on you guys.  I have dropped my last word over there.  I am done with it.  Point made.  UNO plug accomplished--by Sandrine, not even me!
Hehe read your thoughts on the link.
Loved them.
Many valid points.
Crypto has a way to go before the stage leaves the wild west town it has broken down in.
Leave it shall, the disruptive forces it can wreak shall make sure of that, all things being slightly equal in this mixed up world.
Where central banks print themselves free money and buy the worlds stocks off people who dont have the same opportunity.
Distorting proper price discovery and rigging markets in favour of those that dont have a pulse.
Crypto will at least lay the ledger bare....something that does not happen currently.
Regards,
tacktic.

lol i am totally stoked that we got mentioned! I find it rather hilarious that they drew parallels with ethereum, yeah, that is riiight around the corner too. It was an interesting read.

That is the draw to Uno for me though, not being associated with that bullshit. It isn't a gamble, it is something else to hold just in case the shit hits the fan.

Better rates keeping your money in Uno than you would get keeping it in a bank. Lil more risky i suppose, but not by much.

Damn Sabretooth!!

Thats scary as fukk. Has anyone any ideas how this could have transpired?

pls. yes expand on HOW?

personally
paranoid on having any crypto on my 'online' computer.

what is the fix.  encrypt?  not if it is online and some website (or gobber ment with access to any Intel chip) can keylogger and get what ever you type.

Does any serious crypto HODL'r need a 100% off line system to generate private keys?

This is a BIG elephant in a small room for ALL crypto.  No one wants to discuss it but hey UNO community lets figure out a solution Smiley

That is strange !!! Uno  blockchain never take a week to upload! The Uno rockchain is very light. Huh

You're absolutely right, the Uno blockchain should never take that long.

A week or two ago, I tried to install a software upgrade (TortoiseSVN FWIW).  The upgrade didn't take, tried it like 4 times.  But I needed my version control, so I did a System Restore to right before the first upgrade attempt.  Now System Restore claims it doesn't mess with your any of your "documents", but I guess the rockchain doesn't qualify as "documents", so it was like, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 4 months, 8 months (I don't remember) behind.  But it took maybe an hour, at most, to catch up.

And none of my coins were missing.

I smell a keylogger on the OP's computer.  And a UNO-savvy keylogger installer at that...

Guys is there a way to check exactly what happens in this case? Any suggestions?
The coins are gone, but must be scanned for keyloggers and other shit. It's good if we know what is the reason!

I've got some good links but I'm at work right, I've been hacked before too, lost $2200

There are too many ways for viruses and loggers to get on your computer, and AV scanners too often don't catch them. It is difficult to be safe, and most of us will be compromised some day.

They can be installed through software installs, browser exploits, by holes in "safe" software already on your computer, through misconfigured firewalls, by anyone who has access to the machine. They can jump airgaps with usb sticks.  And now reformatting computers doesn't always work because there are documented viruses that can write themselves to bios.

I still like paper wallets for cold storage of Uno and Btc.

Here's how a way to make cold wallets that reduces, but does not fully eliminate risk.
Find a computer that I don't use very often.
Boot it with a Linux live CD
Go to https://cryptap.us/uno/paperwallet.html
After the wallet generator loads in your browser,  but before you have generated the wallet, disconnect the computer from the internet.
Finish generating the wallet and then print it. Don't store the keys on your computer.
Go back online and send your Uno to the new paper wallet address.

It's not perfect but it's all about mitigating risk. The more inconvenience you are willing to suffer (i/e not being on the internet at al) the safer you can be.

I have kids that love to play computer and online games. They are always downloading "free games" and other crap and installing viruses & spyware on the computer in the process. I know this and so I just keep those machines on a separate network and never attach a USB drive to them. The kids are forever forbidden from using my main machine, and I lock when I step away.
