Unobtanium's "O" in the ticker symbol (UNO) is probably necessary to differentiate it from other UN...x altcoins.

IMO while Un certainly is the "correct" abbreviation of Unobtanium, UNO is the ISO-style currency code used by exchanges and through most parts of the community as I've grown to know it. Also most people I chat with and follow on Twitter say UNO when talking Unobtanium.

If it really matters so much, I guess we could hold a vote or something on it. Meanwhile I'll continue saying UNO if you don't mind. Cheesy

Our symbol on all exchanges is UNO, except Comkort calls it UN.

Install success with UN/UNO's Linux wallet has been tricky since the JacobUx team released their wallet update.  I don't run it on Linux and I'm not a dev, so I can't give a technical description of the problem, other than to say there has always been some magic involved to get it to run on various Linux distros. Success on Linux has been inconsistent at best, and the problem wasn't resolved with the last wallet update, unfortunately.

The last changes to the wallet are described here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.6375403
In the last release, UN/UNO was updated for heatbleed, checkpointed, and addnodes were updated.

I don't know exactly what Bryce has had time to finish, but I know he wanted to add some protection for Timewarp, resolve the Linux/Mac wallet issues, and some other things.

Appreciate the Un update!

yo, why you kgw my un all up?

just went and read the notes.  changes were made to help the linux build.  i know i've had to a do a make clean on certain coins when the source was geared towards a windows build.

edit:  so un is forked? per https://github.com/unobtanium-official/Unobtanium, just want to be sure this is it.

Can we start referring to this by it's true abbreviation?

Un

NOT UNO.

Thank you, that is all.

Would kinda suck if Bittrex would really pull out of UNO due to the delay though. They're kind of in the position Mintpal was at 2-3 months ago. Except that they add new coins faster than anyone can keep up with.

Yes, I'll do my best to sweet talk Bittrex; with the community's help I'm confident we can turn it around.

I think UNO was a good fit for Bittrex, and that it still is a good fit.  You're right --  Bittrex adds new coins and then drops the non-performers just as fast. Exchanges need to cull the flock occasionally and weed out the sick coins.

Coins need to trade at least .1 btc daily to stay listed at Bittrex. I'm sure UNO can easily average that over a week/months time.

But even without Bittrex, UNO is listed on some great exchanges, and there is still room to grow these other markets.  I made the rounds to all of our markets recently -- the ones that are suffering are those that simply don't have enough coins on them. I think each market really needs at least 500 kg to have some sell depth and attract interest.

Allcrypt is right on the threshold -- I estimate they have about 300 coins out there -- just not quite enough (they also currently suffer from a wide spread). I think Allcrypt could be a very active market in the long run; they were quite active in May.

Well he's a busy guy - lead dev on what, like 5 or 6 coins now? UNO will not suffer from this in the long term, but in the short term it caused us some trouble. No biggie I guess. Of course we all know that bad news is when you buy and good news is when you sell, so guess what I'll be doing today. Wink

I am a bit concerned that the wallet issues have not been sorted out yet. Are we just lucky that markets like Cryptsy and Mintpal apparently haven't run into those yet (or were able to work around them)? We need stable walltes. Any information about the delay? Is it because BW and Blazr2 want to include all the announced new features too, or will there be an intermediate bugfix release?

We all share your concern.

It should happen this week. Bryce has been working hard on it. It took longer than he thought to sort it. Probably not many sexy new features in this maintenance update, but still some really important improvements that will help UNO succeed long term, and no more of these "it doesn't run on Linux," problems.

When it's released, everyone will need to update, since 0.9.3 will be the minimum version supported -- older UNO clients will slowly lose the network.  Keep watch here for the full update announcement. Bryce might first announce on his Twitter feed, https://twitter.com/bryceweiner but you'll see it here shortly after.

We want to bring every pool, exchange and service provider along with us.  That work we did earlier with organizing a list of pools will be helpful; we'll need to make sure everyone is notified.

Hehe, trading the spread is how I got into UNO, back when CoinEx wasn't a money trap. Buying 10 UNO for .0046 and selling them for .0051 felt like such a rush! In hindsight the divide was probably caused by Wolong and gang channeling the prices for their own purposes. Lets hope that's not what is causing it this time.

Gap doesn't look bad at all, now, on MP.  Thanks everyone!  (Looks like quite a few of us are participating in that.)

You know, another reason for the gap is that all of us pro bidders are trying to suck up Unobtanium as cheaply as possible, but, being intimately familiar with UNO, now, we just don't want to sell too cheaply, as we pretty much know it's less likely that we can buy the full sale quantity back.

These are cheeep prices.

exactly that. I am very short on btc but still buying as much as i can at these prices. sales up? Not so much Wink

and it is true: trading seems to start going a little bit more with this tighter spread.

i have a feeling cryptsy-market is dragging us down. Is there some manipulation going on at cryptsy? All those 0.01000000 sells are still with us. What is going on with that?  He's spreading out 1 uno over 100 orders. he sells all day long 0.01 at a time since weeks and months.
Look at it. The bot is always active whenever uno is bought. It then sells for 5 minutes pieces of around 0.01uno and becomes inactive again until someone buys again. Is that observation right?

well, that bot gives us cheap coins, i guess? I would bet it disappears whenever uno rises 30% or more. Smells like a whale ... maybe another tactic to get around those fake sellwalls. His problem probably was that his fake walls were bought out too often so he had to use that bot to keep prices as low as possible?

I start feeling sorry for all those people that dumped uno in the last weeks to those measly prices. lol.
At one point he'll shut off the bot and start buying. Moon!

what about bittrex-market btw? Is that still on the table?

I got an unfortunate response from them.  This isn't on the table, anymore.  (Unless maybe a bunch of us beg them at a later time.)  They had a problem with the wallet that wasn't resolved.

It would be nice to hear from Bryce Weiner what his side of the story is.

Sounds like an initial lack of communication, but I really don't know.  All I know is that it's off the table, there, and I don't do Linux to understand the wallet technical issue that caused it.

(Still waiting for a refund from Bittrex, BTW.)

Hi gustav,
I get your point.   A wide spread is just generally a warning flag in general to most traders. If you know UNO, you don't worry about it; but if you're new to uno & checking it out, it doesn't look too good.

I'm not a bot trader either. I'm way too dumb to write my own and haven't found one yet that can do what I want it to do.

I agree, this seems to be a bottom right now. I'm tempted to hold onto all of uno, but also like to see some healthy trading. MP doesn't want coins that don't trade (what exchange does, really).

Bittrex, Coinnext and our new rich list are all waiting for a fixed Linux wallet. They couldn't get it to work, which was really disappointing.
BW told me Friday he's working on it. Can't come soon enough as far I'm concerned.

it is because there are only 250k - so big spread happens often. maybe we should start closing spread many times a day with small orders? A friendly bot would be good that plays spread on both sides with around 5 uno.
That's some buisiness right there for someone who knows how to do it. If no bot comes in we have to look after that manually.
cryptsymarket has such a bot it seems. only mintpal missing it.
'look to close spread on mintpal' - noted

ok, waiting for linux-wallet Smiley

Don't forget to trade in your dried out LTC for some fresh, juicy Unobtanium on AllCrypt:
