Completely support this position, B. [Got Spring sunshine pouring from the sky, blossoms on the fruit trees, wildflowers all about, and a pair of wild emus wandered past the living room window yesterday -- about eighty feet away.]

And Hedges: let's hope we can get some notice from a coupla other members, then we'll be about ready for launch on the 18th. Hope we can get support to figure out how to use the blockchain. I am very excited at this possibility!

I will come close to, ...let's call it the 'hobby limit' at some point, and will have to shutter the BeneX shop window "for the winter".  Will have to wait for the next CY before participating, again.  I'm too public, and the world is ruled by psychopathic policies.

We're not there, yet, so no worries.  Just thought I'd preface the event with some bare-bones explanation.  No further details will be provided on the matter.

@ Benefactor: I would be delighted to 'lift,' on a daily basis, some trades from BeneX, and plonk them into the Daily Rates Post -- that is, perhaps some newer Un-Ex users haven't figured BeneX out yet.

m
Added a 'post last updated' note to the shop window (Post #2 of this thread), maybe that will help?

@ Physical Bullion: Perth Bullion does post internationally! and insures the items as well. The postage is expensive -- much much better to stick to 'national chapters' -- but it's an interesting detail.

Ok, I have a bid up, again.  May not be the prettiest, but at least it's an offer.

BeneX, no longer the tightest spread in Unobtanium.  Sad

With the price falling, I can't believe nobody snatched these up.  It's tough for me to keep orders up with so much volatility.  I need more stability than this.

Indeed, Sirsmokes, it's zero sum -- but the capital of the entire market is only about a half a grand. Even it you 'lost the shirt off your back,' you could hardly be down more than the price of a pizza and a supersized Gulp.

Think of the future of Uno and cryptos. I do think that many crypto folk don't understand just how ugly the GFC might get. If this community has a broader understanding of price-independence (and co-operative action in general), then we will remain at the front of the pack.

Pretty much. I don't mind so much, i like risks to an extent. I just like it when i feel like it is MY fault if i do well or not. So even zero sum isn't a bad thing. More so in this case where participation is not mandated. I could see if it were forced volunteerism, than it would be an issue Grin

Gotta have a nanna nap.

Benefactor, here is the back-up Uno address (Ian's): uX2i9mGk4EkqYF22FxzzJq8qBcAY5MaoRN

Everyone: if the principle of the Hedges Project is really beginning to make sense, please weigh in here with a 'Yay.'

It is worth re-iterating my point about the separation of trading bullion and Hedges. Physical-bullion trading is physical-bullion trading. It is constricted by geography and probably some other considerations. This bullion is being sold -- 'one way,' so to speak.

The Hedges are an in-community trust-based system for trading bullion by means of a 'marker.' These markers can be traded back and forth as fast as we can safely keep the Register updated (non-cryptographic at first, then on the blockchain as soon as we figure that out).

@ B.C.: checked at the post office yesterday, hoping my Ag had arrived. Not yet.

@ Benefactor: let us carefully separate the trading of physical bullion from the trading of Hedges.

The development of trust goes much much much better when the rules are kept simple.

There is one rule for the vault silver:it's in the vault.

['Well, I sent my sister a one-ouncer for her birthday; but the replacement I paid for got lost in the mail. It's insured, but the company is takin' its time processing the forms. So, there are nine actual ounces, but . . . ']

If the Project succeeds, no one will ever 'call out.' And actually, yes, to call out would be an expression of mistrust.

It is customary for vault / depositories to charge shipping fees when delivering precious metals. There are also an array of other fees like storage fees.

As the vault, I will not charge any type of storage fee.  However, should a hedge owner wish to take delivery of AG, I will expect a transfer of UNO to me for postage incurred.

I made several exchanges of UNO for precious metals in the US successfully. I am awaiting verification that IMZ received the AG the he exchanged for his UNO.  The international shipment is difficult and that's why IMZ and I have been pushing for national chapters of TT who could be hedges within his / her country for more facile fulfillment.

So the hedge is a way of buying and selling silver without actually transferring the silver from person to person with each transaction? That is cool, it makes it much easier to trade!

Hedges
but a calling-out would signal mistrust (but you would still do it if you felt it was appropriate!)

Calling-out does not necessarily signal mistrust.  One could want to use the silver for different projects.  One might want to sell physical to someone local or have to for some reason.  They might want it for a gift.  Local political conditions might necessitate delivery, etc.

-

Yes, Korlic definitely earned a 1st star!

-

I have plenty of 1-oz'ers to choose from, but my favorites are 1oz Johnson-Matthey bars WITH SERIAL NUMBERS.  What a great tool for writing 'Hedges' in the future.  Not trading in phase 1, though, recused.

Here's a random image off of a web search engine:

Any chunk of silver bullion (".999" % pure) can be 'struck' with anything to uniquely mark it, cheaply.  The metal is relatively soft, and the weight would not change.

-

There should be a movie, where the villain demands unmarked bearer bars, instead of bearer bonds.   Grin
