Does anyone know if the Smelter by Smolen miner does donation mining to a different address at times? I ask as watching my pool hash rate it seems to drop down quite a bit at regular intervals before returning to normal. Say 5 minutes out of the hour. It could be random luck I guess, but was curious as I cannot find a lot of information about this miner.
WhirlpoolX version of Smelter does not split reward, pay 'donations' and so on. Nothing is hidden except source code, all hashrate from your GPU is yours. Old, now obsolete, Quark versions did pay to my address and it was clearly stated in
the announcement. Anyway, it's a good idea to be paranoid with closed-source software, so don't store anything important (like wallets) on mining PC or at least run Smelter under separate, restricted user account.
BTW, my miner is as fast, it's based on sgminer and doesn't have any fee.
Glad to hear it! One of reasons to release free version was to be sure that I've got all possible speed from conventional, non-bitsliced, way of mining
Another smelter question... Is there a way to set a backup pool? I see the pool I was using went down for a bit and I came back to find the miner was idling.
Not in the released version. The code is "almost ready", but I had to put this project on hold, sorry
Thanks for clearing up those questions Smolen!
