What is the block time? And can it be mined by scrypt asic?
Variable block time targeting 80-200 seconds. You can't make use of your scrypt asics as this uses a modified Whilrpool algo.
FPGA development is ongoing, some boards with spartan 6 chips on them will be able to mine Vanillacoin with good power to hash efficiency.
Where to buy FPGA asic?
FPGA's aren't ASIC's.
FPGA's are pretty pricey / rare as rocking horse shit to pick up cheaply it seems. You can buy Quad Xilinx Spartan 6 LX150 boards (1.15x) new from ZTEX.de directly. I paid about £300 for one about a year ago. I've also picked up a few Enterpoint Cairnsmore CM1 Quad LX150 second hand as and when they come up on eBay for anything from £60-£200 each depending on your location (and shipping cost). I haven't been able to find them in quantity anywhere but there must be 100's out there in the wild gathering dust.
I believe we are still waiting on compiled Bitstreams and performance stats for WhirlpoolX hashing with these boards though so any purchase is speculative at this stage.
ZTEX Quads are 1.15y - I have one.

Does anyone know if the Smelter by Smolen miner does donation mining to a different address at times? I ask as watching my pool hash rate it seems to drop down quite a bit at regular intervals before returning to normal. Say 5 minutes out of the hour. It could be random luck I guess, but was curious as I cannot find a lot of information about this miner.
WhirlpoolX version of Smelter does not split reward, pay 'donations' and so on. Nothing is hidden except source code, all hashrate from your GPU is yours. Old, now obsolete, Quark versions did pay to my address and it was clearly stated in the announcement. Anyway, it's a good idea to be paranoid with closed-source software, so don't store anything important (like wallets) on mining PC or at least run Smelter under separate, restricted user account.BTW, my miner is as fast, it's based on sgminer and doesn't have any fee.
Glad to hear it! One of reasons to release free version was to be sure that I've got all possible speed from conventional, non-bitsliced, way of mining Another smelter question... Is there a way to set a backup pool? I see the pool I was using went down for a bit and I came back to find the miner was idling.
Not in the released version. The code is "almost ready", but I had to put this project on hold, sorry

a few of us are really worried of what will happen to the price if 0 confirmations doesent work, its all just theory so it technically might not be possible..
hope the price doesent dip too much over the next few days before it gets tested.

He spent a year before launch writing the base code from scratch. He stopped POW specifically to run tests for android/iOS/PC interaction and is already looking ahead to Dark++/dark.io...
I'm not sure it is just theory to him...

It is being pumped so it's hard to know what will happen in the short term, but it has the tech to back up any price increase; it just needs more people to look into it and large exchanges to add it. Once Zerotime is live, we will have the best non-gimmicky tech in the altcoin space, and we're currently only 57th in marketcap.
