Anyway that is my opinion and observation but only dev/john-connor knows why he changed that difficulty retargeting from ultra slow (if I remember right diff calculation was averaging over 2 weeks) into current ultra short retargeting period and probably he can explain all about that much better.

Short retargeting intervals are better when
multipools come, and leave with difficulty shot up
to high heavens. With slow retatgeting, diff could stay
up for days.

I remembered there are much more than 100K VNL produced in a day because of the slow diff retargeting. Abuser can't do that again now with new retargeting calculation, avg time per round stays above 2.5 minutes and coin produced way less than 100K per day. So, from my noobish view id'say that the diff jump is some way VNL defend itself against molesters out there and keep its pants on Grin . Nothing wrong with it CMIIW

It was only the wind.
Please test new Smelter version
Should work with Nicehash now (but keep an eye on it!), more GPUs are supported (270, 290x and other GCN)

 WOW!  Smiley
over 350 mhps on r9-280x
but
runs too hot 100o+
what arguements to control I, mem and core?

What options? I'm pretty sure it's a work-in-progress...

Yes, you are right and also future FPGA's testing will make the same as multipool but in both cases maybe slower upward diff corection would be better IDK, anyway as I said john can explain why the retargeting is just like it is and why this diff retargeting is the best option.

280x, 15.3, silent server, all auto

for common smelter effect watch the nicehash profitability, it will die soon

Yup. I've got 513MH/s off of my 280X right now.

Maybe Digishield difficulty algorithm could help here?

Nothing wrong with the diff targeting, huge hashes are jumping on and off, but it's not profitable for them and that's the point. They are probably testing the waters.

Can anyone tell me what'swrong with diff? It jumps like a crazy

i don't think that there's anything wrong with it. big waves, so what? the coin is doing exactly what it was designed to do, level the playing field.

i have one R9-280x. i could be mining, for example, HBN. if i was atm i'd be getting ~3 coins a day. got 60 VNL yesterday. no brainer  Wink

IMHO that is the biggest problem right now. Difficulty retargeting algo was changed when mining moved from CPU to GPU mining in favor of GPU miners but it was changed in a way that alows 'raping' by big GPU farms or multipool which wasn't the case during the CPU mining period. Multipool jumping in or out based on their profitability calculation so diff retargeting algo doesn’t protect and honor those who are mining constantly.
I think that all mentioned including block reward drop is reason why overall nethash went down and many miners including myself moved their rigs to something else.

with  270 ~265 Wink

270 is exactly the same as 270X, just binned lower - so I guess smolen was right.

I intend to buy a AMD Radeon r9 280x for mining vanilla coin.
I look for a tutorial that explains how to mining vanilla and how optimized the AMD Radeon r9 280x for 400 Mh / s

Just download Smolen's miner and run it. I wouldn't advise to buy a GPU just now for mining Vanillacoins (or anything else) though, since block rewards dropped to 88 and FPGA's are just around the corner which will be far better in terms of energy efficiency.

But if you plan on buying a good GPU anyway for gaming and etc., go on.

I don't agree, you can find good used R9 280x for funny prices and FPGA miners wont kill GPU mining in terms of hash. The real advantage of FPGA's is in low power consumption which means almost nothing if someone wants to mine with 1 or 2 cards from gamer PC when PC isn't in the gaming purpose use and specialy if someone else is paying electricity bills Smiley

Buying a GPU just for mining right now, to mine VNL, means you'll never see that money back at current valuation and difficulty.
Well that is assuming you sell as soon as you mine.  If he holds what he mines, and John pulls off the greatest coin since bitcoin, well his investment could be worth a lot.  Now obviously that is a big if, and big shoes to fill, but VNL is not a copy paste clone shitcoin by a cartoon dev. So there is that to think about, sometimes you got to buy that lotto ticket.

COULD. That implies taking on risk, which I didn't assume he wanted to do.

It would be cheaper to buy and hold if you believe the future of the coin. Mining is only for low cost miners these days.

I was in the same position - at the end I bought one Smiley
buying and holding is not fun, mining kind of is  Grin

But as other told, you won't make profit with buying GPU for mining, if you find cheap used and you want mine for fun/hobby go for it

cheers

So send .1 VNL to yourself repeatedly and increase your stake bounty...? Or will that just split the stake into smaller pieces holistically?

It won't increase the amount of your stake, it will increase the frequency.  The amount of your stake is based on the amount of the txn being staked...you won't get much (if anything) for a .1 VNL txn.

So if you have 100K VNL...if you have a single 100K txn, over time it would stake the same amount as 100, 1K txns...it would just take longer between stakes.  In the end, you still just have 100K staking.

You could have just said yes to my second question, lol

It was only the wind.
I get just 165MH/s on HD7850  Huh
Were Smelter as advanced as sgminer and company, many problems could be diagnosed by plain screenshot Sad
Try to play with worksize, change '-W 64' in .cmd file to -W 128 or 256, select the best value, lower memclock and start to raise core clock. Keep an eye '5s:' speed, it catches up quickly.

And I get ~271MH/s on it.
Something new?

Why don't you release some full speed version where you get a percentage?
We are more or less at par with Wolf0, he is obviously better at OpenCL, I think I can show a trick or two at math. Our miners are roughly equal. I spared my best kernel to throw Smelter into wildness of buggy drivers, weird software, rare GPUs, newbie users and other real-life issues. When all it will be over, Smelter will be mature miner, ready to make money - with other algorithms. Sadly, this move devastated profits on Vanillacoin for OpenCL developers, at least until next breakthrough with AES-like kernels.

Nope, screenshot is from 03/16 (NSFW): https://ottrbutt.com/miner/whirlpoolxwolf-03162015.png

Note that it's a 270X, not a 7850 - while they share the same core, the 270X is better binned, and has slightly more shaders - 1280 vs. 1024.

If your wallet is encrypted, make sure it is unlocked or you won't stake.  When I first setup my wallet, I didn't seem to stake much at first either, but now I get 2 to 6 stakes per day.

The stake is also based on each individual transaction.  So if you only have one transaction to your wallet, that is the only one that can stake and it will take a while.  I have a bunch of small txns, and they each stake at their own interval.
