That's up to you! The post in my example has 1023kb (ie close to the 1mb limit).

If I ran a pool, what I'd do is set the block size to be as high as possible until I saw my blocks getting orphaned much more than was acceptable (I'd accept a slightly higher orphan rate). I don't think anyone has found out what such a size is yet, so if you want to experiment, go right ahead. To some extent it depends on whether other miners have upgraded to Bitcoin 0.8 which is much faster, also, if mining pools peer with each other directly, that will also reduce propagation time and reduce chances of an increased orphan rate.

Hello, Mike!

We need a little time to give a complete answer. Most likely, we also increase the block size .
Any advice on the preferred size would appreciated.

Hi there 50BTC,

Would it be possible for you to select and document your block policies as other pools are doing, please? See my post here:

  https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/soft-block-size-limit-reached-action-required-by-you-149668

It means selecting size of blocks to create and then setting some flags on your node. BTCGuild is currently making 750kb blocks and OzCoin has moved to 500kb. You are still on the default of 250kb. Larger blocks mean transactions confirm faster because we don't run out of space.

Miners will appreciate knowing pool policies so they can select a pool that they agree with.

We are currently working on improving the infrastructure of the pool - Stratum protocol and GBT. And almost done with this.
Email notification was not in our priority.

At the moment worker data and balances may be displayed with delays due to maintenance at the data center. There's nothing wrong with the pool though, every share is counted. Site operation will return to normal very soon.

This issuie was caused by old version of ZTEX miner, it's have troubles this variable share difficulty. After you ve changed share difficulty to 64 on pool, your miner continued to generate shares with diff=1. All shares with diff>64 were paid correctly, the remaining 98% were rejected by pool-server.

I use the latest version of BTCMiner 121126, but okay ...

As far as I'm aware, BTCMiner (all versions) does not support diff > 1.  So it ignores the difficulty field sent by the pool and just sends anything that is at least diff=1.  It doesn't hurt you, other than meaning setting yourself at higher difficulties serves no purpose.  Using ztex FPGAs through another mining client (like cgminer or bfgminer) fixes this problem.

Question: what is the host name to use stratum?

If your miner have stratum support it will be automatically redirected, however you can connect manually, just change port to 3333. Stratum support was added on all of our pool-servers.

It is normal after this error on your part, not getting paid all my mining shares sent correctly?
It's my fault your software failures?

ASIC miners are wellcome!
We are proud to announce STRATUM-protocol support at 50btc.com. STRATUM will dramatically reduce amount of the rejected shares since your miner will receive new jobs from the mining-pool automatically.
Advantages of the new protocol will be especially appreciated by the high-speed ASIC miner owners.
In additions we’ve upgraded blocks to version 2 based on bitcoin community requests

50btc

is down in this moment.
Maintenance or DDOS attack?

:-(

Unfortunately, there was an internal connectivity issue on the data-center side.
There were about 90% packets lost on one of the nodes.
At the moment all the issues are fixed, servers are up and running.

At the moment, the pool is under DDoS attack. We do our best to restore functionality as soon as possible.

We have some news.

First, we are glad to announce that our new pool-server is put into production - pool80.50btc.com, it's using port 80 for the Getwork and port 443 for the LP.
Server located in France.

...

Hi my friends!
i'm trying to connect @ pool80 but i fail.

I want to use pool80.50btc.com because my test-pc is behind a firewall  with the 8332 port close.

my connection string is the follow (with Ufasoft client):

coin-miner.exe  -o http://pool80.50btc.com:80 -u myusername

but I receive an

HTTP 403: fordibben

error.
Can you show me some right connection string?
My firewall permit the access on the 80 & 443 port. I need for other ports?

thank you for your help!

Same here, now got http 403 error for 3h10mins now.
(not a single work obtained, althought this miner mined for months with no settings update here).

that is using http://pool.50btc.com:8332

ztex_ufm1_xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxx-1: Error: Server returned HTTP response code: 403 for URL: http://pool.50btc.com:8332: Disabling URL http://pool.50btc.com:8332 for 60s
