So what happens if you don't  use Facebook or Twitter because you consider them to be the juvenile haunts of kids and politicians?

Linkedin, Myspace, Discord, Telegram, Reddit, Instagram, Bitcointalk account username and pass (yes this is social media) Youtube/Dlive/Dtube/Steemit please.

I mean it you’re a foreigner and you attempt to plead the fifth and then say that you won’t give them that information —> You’re not going to be allowed entry

Its a privilege to enter this nation, not a right.

It is a privilege to have never of gone there for me, or plan to.

Don`t worry my country is not any better.
Most people are drawn to the US by its economy and social programs. The standard of living, even for those who are relatively poor, is much higher in the US than most of the world.

Many people have migrated to the US, work at a low paying, by US standards, job and make enough to send enough money back home to support their whole family.

Same thing when they search the last five years of social media.  If you've ever posted you smoked a joint, you also get a lifetime ban.
Do you have a source for this? I briefly reviewed the questions asked on the application to obtain a US Visa and didn’t see anything about casual drug use. I did see questions about drug trafficking and being dependent on drugs.

"serious immigration consequences" which probably means lifetime ban from US entry.

Well, no one is forcing you to go to the US although the measure is quite ridiculous, it's their right to ask for it, I mean I get it, we all want privacy but why have a social media account then? Goes to show that it's much better to not have one.

Look at page 72 of a sample Visa application. If you give materially false or misleading information, you could be permanently excluded from entering into the US, subject to criminal prosecution and deportation.

I mean, they're going to ask for all they want. Though the problem boils down to the fact that they're going to have to prove that you have accounts.
You have few rights when crossing borders, and this is in all countries. No country is required to allow you to enter their country, even if you have a Visa. If a country is not confident you are telling the truth to immigration officers, or on your Visa application, chances are you will not be allowed to enter the country.

I suspect the purpose of this is to check if anyone entering the country has any extremist views. If you have extremist views or have been radicalized, chances are you will be denied entry into the US.

wtf? today isn't the 1th of april Huh or did i miss something Shocked

would be interesting if you apply for a visa and don't submit your "anonymous" social media accounts (which aren't directly linked to you) to them... you think they notice that you are hiding some informations? i guess yes...

Are you sure this is the US, thee land of the free? Sounds more like North Korea to me.

I wonder what happens if you just say you don't use any social media? They raised the bar pretty high with this one I don't think any other country is going to come close for a while.

You can just browse those platforms but not use them yourself.   For example I do get a lot of information from twitter but I don't post any personal information at all so they would have nothing to gain from that.

I also do that. I always use them by giving fake information. They probably see that many people do this and get mad constantly. By giving fake information to Twitter, you make CIA to waste resources. GJ.

Worse than North Korea and Trump and Kim Jong-un rub shitty haircuts in the back room together while they touch bellies while Putin and Trudeau throw love roses at them and candy hearts.

Who cares if they get mad, they don`t need your social media profiles, the fuck is that? They are the ones wasting resources to begin with on this shit. CIA MAKES THE WASTE GJ!

I don't mind them checking out social media accounts. Many people have a lot of public posts anyway, things everyone would have seen. Just give them the profile name and be done with it.

I don't like them also asking for email addresses and phone numbers though.

So what happens if you don't  use Facebook or Twitter because you consider them to be the juvenile haunts of kids and politicians?

Maybe they'd ask for your Reddit, which is worse since they'll find more of your opinions there, unless you show them a dummy account.

I mean, they're going to ask for all they want. Though the problem boils down to the fact that they're going to have to prove that you have accounts. I suppose they could seize your phone at the border, ask you to open it, and then look through it to see the apps you use -- then asking for your username on the apps makes sense, as you obviously use them.

This is a mixture of trying to balance privacy of foreigners, and protection of people at home. Though I doubt this will provide much protection tbh.

True story I had marijuana in both my pockets, 1 gram in 1 and 27 grams in the other.

I got pulled over by the police. They asked me if I had any drugs on me, I gave the lady the lesser amount in my left pocket and kept the bigger amount in my right (you could smell this stuff from 2 blocks away). It took her a minute but she threw the marijuana back at me and asked if I had drugs, I walked away with 28 grams that day, one of the few times I did not get beaten by the police or assaulted in my life by them, although I do kind of consider that mugging/bullying until she gave it back. It was still illegal at the time, it is legal now.

Imagine if they require their own citizens to do this. I'm imagining an uproar.

I'd like to see this challenged. Or maybe even more fun, have other countries retaliate by require American citizens to go through the same procedure.

Both parties love to invade on the privacy of the people. This is probably a bipartisan measure tbh, and it's not going to get much time in the news cycle. I understand the rationale behind a decision like this though, as people are going to say that foreigners should be looked at with a fine tooth comb to ensure that these people aren't wreaking havoc on our country.

Though do we REALLY have the resources to parse through individual peoples social media accounts, or are we just going to have an AI look for keywords or something? How is something like this even enforced. If I was to say I have no social media accounts, it seems pretty hard to fight me on that one.

Looks like they're following the trends Smiley
Obviously, they want to have all the information about the applicants for visa including their thinking and affiliation to different groups on the Internet.
Now it will be easier to control people, like a big brother.
It was always difficult to get US Visa and now it has become even harder.

More information, more profits they can get.But what they will do if people give fake ID details. Grin

Fake id details to US government? I liked your Joke. Smiley

Just curious to know is there any punishment for the people who found giving fake details.

Even Facebook admits that many people registered with fake details so how it can be considered as document for getting visa.

This is all I can find on it. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-48486672
