Given that vast wealth, it was somewhat unusual to be asked by the organiser of Thursday’s press conference to pay for my seat at his grand unveiling.
Lol. And they paid anyway?

I guess the scoop is still worth it to them, especially if it did turn out he at least tried to offer some proof. I agree they should probably just ignore any idiots who claim to be satoshi unless they do sign something publicly beforehand, but we all know that won't happen. I don't think the media paid anyway though I'm sure he tried to get them to do so:

encouraged me to spend £500 in exchange for the privilege of interviewing "Satoshi" on stage.
So this is a thing? I can do this! Anyone paying me £500 can interview me, and I can pretend to be whoever they want me to be! Santa? You got it! The Tooth Fairy? Not a problem! Craig? Sure, I'll drink some shots and pretend to be Craig!

Why does the BBC still exist?

Cos people still keep paying their TV licence. It will probably die off in it's current format eventually as more and more people stop paying for it. They need to either have adverts or go to a Netflix style subscription. Maybe even both. You get it for free with adverts or pay for it without.

Is this farce available to view online anywhere? Doesn't seem like he even attempted to sign anything so not sure what the purpose was for this unless it was just a pathetic publicity stunt or to try make some money from tickets. Seems he was trying to charge £500 for interviews:

A front row seat would be £100. It was another £50 if I wanted unlimited questions. Organiser Charles Anderson even encouraged me to spend £500 in exchange for the privilege of interviewing "Satoshi" on stage.

What proof did he actually try to offer?

I didn't know someone works for BBC actually waste their time for this farce. Anyway, i did quick search and found a youtube channel which cover the press conference on https://www.youtube.com/@Jonny1000-b2z. The audio quality is rather poor, where i give up after watching for 5 minutes.

I just find user Master Ledger claim he's in communication with Satoshi Nakamoto and claim he'll include verifiable proof on 31 October 2024.

Satoshi Nakamoto to Reveal Legal Identity on 31 October 2024

London, 31 October 2024 – After over a decade of speculation and mystery, the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the inventor of Bitcoin and the foundational Blockchain technology, will be revealed.

Satoshi Nakamoto, whose whitepaper launched the world’s first decentralized cryptocurrency in 2008, has chosen 31 October 2024, the anniversary of Bitcoin's whitepaper, to disclose his legal identity to the public in what is set to be a historic event. The announcement comes amidst growing legal pressures and media speculation over the past few years.

This unprecedented revelation will include verifiable proof that will settle the debate once and for all, confirming Nakamoto’s identity to the world.

Further details, including how to attend this momentous event and exclusive press opportunities, will be announced soon.

Good evening all,

Not sure if you will see this (anytime genuine news like this appears, they dont want you to see it and it gets mysteriously deleted.  Why dont you ask them why?)

to all the cynics and sceptics who chose not to believe anything that is real and only follow things that are so obviously fake, the event is indeed happening in a few hours

You can see the pdf in the press report:

Only really for Journalists.  However if anyone has a genuine interest and can honestly say they could not be considered one of Satoshi's adversaries then please call me and I will get you in.

All the best

Charles

This user claim he's in communication with Satoshi Nakamoto, claiming he'll provide verifiable proof. But until now, neither his website or post mention any verifiable proof even though he claim he will share it on 31 October (2 days ago). A forum member on https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.64692526 shows the conference is BS, but i can't really verify it.

Well, I was able to quote you because I felt I had something to talk about what you mentioned and it's too bad that you would not allow your pettiness let you see or understand what I was trying to say.
Good thing you said you was digressing a bit because I see no need to bring up something that has passed up, hell that's why we've got PM's for a reason and you felt I called you out wrongly for something you didn't do, that's where you should have voiced your grievance and not here where people are supposed to carry out meaningful discussion.
Good days ahead...

It's if you want to get hurt. No one can comfortably prove he's or they are the real Satoshi if they can't sign a message with the private key of the Genesis block so that alone should tell you what you need to know.
Some people are so quick to latch on to the notion that they know Satoshi Nakamoto and will go about giving so many funny details about what they know but can't really defend themselves when it gets hot.
I mean, who won't jump on the chance of being a celebrity for a while no matter how short? The thing to do with such accounts is to neg tag them but I think they know the penalties of their actions but don't give two shits either way.
Let me digress  a little. There was no need for you to quote me because I don't want to play the victim card for now but I am still waiting for the day. My impact in the local board was good and I really clean the board too, but few of you took me as bad person. I know what I was doing. You don't have to quote me in any post or comment. Just look and pass. This your quote is even out of point and not inline with the discussion.

Keeping those accounts in the forum might hurt people because if someone can call himself Satoshi Nakamoto while he is not then that person can scam people. Mostly newbies might fall for the guys so the best way is to tag the accounts or if possible ban the accounts because a deceiver is very dangerous in the community and they can do anything to survive. As for me they are purely scammers because there is no way a genuine person would come here and claim to be the creator of bitcoin or Satoshi Nakamoto when he or she knows that they are not.

I just think that because Bitcointalk has been around for about 15 years, they have smart members who understand that implementation.

We do understand it. Its just that you're probably the 145th person to make the same "joke" on the forum. In any case, I don't think that necessarily means you were "impersonating satoshi." This thread should definitely be reserved for clearer cases of impersonation.

Dude, you did something dangerous. You should have known that not everyone will get the real message. I see a Untrusted feedback by pakhitheboss which is negative. I understand that we cannot expect everyone to understand the real message. I was about to do a stupid thing by writing a PGP message first, but it seems like that will create some forum drama.  Cheesy Cheesy

Even after explaining the Joke, some people still commenting on that thread and accusing you of being a Faketoshi. LOL. I hope they will come to a realisation that they were fooled.

Legit question; did anyone really think DonaldTrumpJR was the son of the former president of the United States?  Did anyone think that he owner of that account was actually trying to pass himself off as the son of the former president of the United States?
Logically from the activity of the account you would see that he is not, and can not involved himself in all discussion because as Son of Donald Trump, there could be other important things he would place priorities and not to come here to start phishing for peanuts from innocent people.

But then, we must not trust people with our funds be it new start projects or any person who comes up with a famous or influential person's name and we think such person would have that time to involved themselves in most of the discussions here then is fake.

For instance, I can take Divido (OBO) and if an account is created with that username and he doesn't post according to his line of business or talks about music then we can say such person is an imposter trying to impersonate someone that he is not and for that we should be extremely mindful associating any business deal with them.

The question is what to do with these accounts.
Neg tag them into oblivion?
Waste time with replies?
Report as spammers?
All of the above?
Other?

It's great for us to discuss them, but should we do if anything in our limited capacity as users about them.

-Dave

Impersonators everywhere claiming to be Satoshi. It will be nice your opinions are taken into considerations because newbies would be at risk if nothing is done about it. Maybe a tag would be visible for all to know that such an account is an impostor and be wary about it  if banning is not a good option because they would keep creating more accounts to fulfill their aim of scamming people here.

I just noticed the word "other" in the title Cheesy I'd say Satoshi Nakamoto is the opposite of a public figure Wink

Don't get me wrong, I understand why ABCbits started this thread, but I don't think "impersonating public figures" is really a problem on this forum.  Claiming to be Satoshi is one thing and the example given isn't the first time, nor will it be the last.  But, if someone comes along with the username "Leonardo DiCaprio" is he going to get red-tagged as an impersonator?  Honestly, there are likely users who might do such a thing and use this thread as an excuse.

Both of you bring good points. Should i rename the thread title to something else, such as "Users who impersonate as Satoshi Nakamoto or other cryptocurrency figures" ?

And i think only having username same or similar with public figures isn't enough reason to determine whether they attempt to impersonate someone.

This one stands out: it's a user who earned enough Merit to not be a shitposter. My first thought was another useless topic, but I think he's trying to make a point. Read the title: Don't Trust, Verify. That's like me telling you to download electrum.exe from my server, which I posted years ago.
@Charles-Tim who tagged him: I think you missed the point of his topic. It's not the best way while so many people claim the same BS, but I don't think he had bad intentions.

I think you guys missed the point of this thread (at least, my interpretation of the point of this thread), which made people try to verify the message, see it was invalid, and thus validating "Don't trust, Verify"

I don't think it was an impersonation attempt, moreso rhetoric imo.

I (think) I understood your thread and for what it's worth, thought it was a good one! Sorry that the rest of the community saw it from a more malicious standpoint. A bit harsh, imo...it's hard for everyone to interpret things the same way and as intended through a computer screen I suppose.
