[Official] AMA With Vertcoin Developers 6/29

Good afternoon Vertans!
I would like to announce an AMA with the Vertcoin Developers starting tomorrow, 6/29/2014, @ 11AM CST. I will be primarily monitoring and responding to the AMA thread, but others will jump in if I don't have an answer.
I will start a separate thread tomorrow at the schedule time.
Spread the word!
Cheers,

Myriadcoin operates off of 5 different hashing algorithms.

And why would we pick x11 when you can rent fpga's to mine x11? fgpa have the same issue as asic.

Why there is an X11 worlwide hype, when you can rent fpga's to mine x11?
I do not understand it also.

But cryptoworld is not logic sometimes (vide: current price of VTC)

The first multi-PoW coin would be Myriadcoin.

I have found only information about some kind of multi pool - I didn't check it deeper...

Let's me summarize for you.

1. Scrypt-N ASIC, We have looking for another algorithm already. We have planed to implement it in GPU and CPU miner after we released Stealth Addresses.

2. Multiple PoW, In order to change to the new algorithm, it must be smooth transition as much as possible. We have planed to implement multiple PoW from Scrypt-N to the new algorithm. According to the plan, it will be Scrypt-N -> New Agorithm + Scrypt-N -> New Algorithm.

3. Multipool & Inflation, We still discussing the solutions with team members to find the best way to solve it, but it will do nothing until we released Stealth Address.

4. Stealth Address, It is in progressing.

Thanks,
bushido

That would be first multi-PoW coin, am I right?

OK, but current situation insists for being open-minded...

Why this above can't be done a bit more flexible?

Scrypt-N -> Scrypt-N + X11 (or X13 or X15, whatever) -> New Algorithm + Scrypt-N + X11 -> New Algorithm

This first change should be done as soon as posible, this would give us more time for good choice of New Algorithm

and maybe for a best 'GPU only PoW' worldwide contest (vide: SHA-3 case for instance)

btw:
"Have you determined Ethereum's proof of work algorithm, and is it possible to describe in laymans terms? Smiley

However, our latest line of thought is a memory-hard proof of work based the blockchain data itself. The precise algo would be: H = SHA3(block header ++ nonce)[12:] for i in [0...7] A = first address in blockchain state tree after H B = balance(A) H = SHA3(block header ++ nonce ++ A[0] ++ B[0] ++ ... ++ A[7] ++ B[7]) SUCCESS = 1 if H < 2256 / difficulty else 0 This has the following advantages: Extremely memory hard to compute; makes Dagger look like a child toy Extremely easy to verify"

I think temporary closed-source is something darkcoin did right. We should do this too. Only until it's widely accepted that we were the first stealth coin - then open it up. It would be far too easy for someone to steal our thunder right now.
+1

Meh, I sold all my darkcoin at 0.01 because it was announced they would keep it closed source for the foreseeable future. I'd probably do the same for vert. That's not something I want to support.

That means you sold (drk) less than what it is currently worth.

You are suggesting we dump our vertcoin for this pathetic price as well?

Pro trading tips right there...LOL.

VTC could withhold the source for 30 days or so. No harm in doing that right?

even as open source fan i think this is inevitable in this scene atm.

Stealth addresses are now live on MON mainnet. VTC release will follow once further beta testing has taken place in MON, so please help to test.

http://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/298wpl/monocle_stealth_address_release_candidate_1/

tell us... how can you defend your developments and innovations from the takeover by exe?

it is hard to understand how did it first. exe coin devs claim to be the first in this place... so what is the deal?

Coins with impeccable reputations...
Need to start close-sourcing certain innovations for a reasonable period...
BCTalk groups have abused the Open Source Movement to create a criminal culture...

And that must start changing now.

I think the stealth implementation should be kept closed-source for now. VTC has an established reputation and no one is worried about a premines/scam/etc at this point. It's too easy for other coins to copy-paste as well and claim some sort of credit as being one of the first. They should keep it closed until it needs to be open (ie mass adoption, community unanimously agrees it should be open, etc).

Encryption algorithms are open source so that everyone can peer review them and weed out any bugs. As we saw with the heartbleed bug, not all bugs are weeded out instantly and it may take time for the community to realize they might exist. I think it would be a good idea to create a fund on vertcoinmarket so that a known and respected third party (white hat hacking firm) can be hired to see how secure/private/bug free the implementation is. Once that is done and they give the green light then even more people will willingly join the VTC train since they won't have to worry about the closed source implementation.

Guys, the multipool x11.greenpool.tk hash dropped by about 1/3rd. With it, the sell pressure from wafflepool is increasing.

Please take a moment to reconsider and mine on this pool.

You save half on electricity, keep your GPUs 10 degrees lower, and help neutralize scrypt-n multipools from building sell pressure.

In my case, I made 80% of VTC profitability yesterday. However, since I saved half on electricity... this comes out to more VTC after the cost of power.

i switched to a p2pool node anyways , here is the one i joined

http://a83-163-95-38.adsl.xs4all.nl:9171/static/

10% of the network hashrate is n p2pool, does further increasing this make the coin any special ?!

Truth will out!
And why don't you mine on Give-me-coins or Simplevert?

Very easy-intuitive mining pools with great hashrate. They pay, of course... verified.
When I mine I always use one of those pools  Wink

give-me-coins has a lot of hashrate mining vertcoin.

We better not mine there Wink

P2Pool FTW!

Edit: give-me-coins as 8% of hashrate, simplevert as 22%. Combined, this two pools got 30% of global hashrate. This could harm the coin (51% attack) if they keep getting higher hashrates.

http://www.verters.com/block-analysis

Yes, but that two pools are not from the same owner. Example:
Give-me-coins + Simplevert can have the 51% in total, not individually, so... i don't know, it's different than owning the 51% of the total network.

As well, It's the same debate as in the Bitcoin reddit & forums. It's the 51% attack really good for them? If it's not good for the coin it's no good for them.

Now, I think that we don't need to be scared, lol. It's important to spread the hash of course!

does it have fees ? and does it take long like coinotron to pay out ?!

also what is the difference between p2pool and normal pools ?!

Some pools have fees, others don't.

You can find more about P2Pool in this link:

http://www.hashingaway.com/about-p2pool/

and the rest of the pools have a combined hashrate of 100%.....way more than 51%.
they are 2 completely different pools...whats your point?

Yes, of course! I'm just saying, its always good to decentralize. If they have that hashrate, why keep pointing more miners to them?

Don't you agree?

how to mine @ p2pool ? i'm currently mining at coinotron ...

Simply point your miner to the provided URL and use your VertCoin address as username and anything as password.

You can check the P2Pool List HERE

You can also merged mine MONOCLE an Parallax.

Cheers
