BTC -> LTC -> VTC is the Future

I guess current ASICs can simply make a firmware upgrade to mine Scrypt-N. Am I missing something?

I suggest you take a look at this: http://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/1zr9hy/faq_vertcoin_asicresistance_all_the_answers_you/

yes, they cannot.

"ASIC" and "firmware upgrade" are incompatible terms.

1 day average to get share from 750Ti simply is not an option.
I don't think that two separate p2pool networks should be the problem. Look at current situation, p2pool has about 800Mhs performance, generating block every quarter hour. If it's split into two networks, one 200Mhs with low hashrate miners, it still generates one block an hour with four times higher probability of getting share for miners. Second 600Mhs generating block every twenty minutes with slightly higher probability of getting share. It's not ideal solution, but there is not another yet. Problem is if miners will not follow recommendations in using two p2pool networks, one of them ends empty (because simply users will still think that higher hashrate network is better) or will have equival hashrate (users will prefer network with lower share difficulty) which is not so bad as first option because hashrate will be at least split into half.

Problem with p2pool is simple. It is too large. That leads to high share difficulty which causes low hashrate miner very low probability of getting share. Yes, if you hash for example a month, your income 'should be' average, but with bad luck, you may also get almost nothing. Or if you mine few days without luck, not getting share, and then left, you just wasted your hashrate completely. This is caused by nature how p2pool is working. Only solution I see is to create more than one p2pool network to allow hashrate redistribution. At current time, forget about mining on p2pool if you have less than about 1Mhs, coz probability of getting share at such hashrate is about 3 hours.

Then you trade off small miners getting more shares but the pool finding less blocks. Still results in variance for the small miners. The author of p2pool is working on a new version of p2pool for the future which will have better support for smaller miners, but that isn't a near-term solution.

p2pool does work differently than normal pools and people who don't like that should use a pool they feel comfortable with. Because it can take a while to find shares, p2pool maybe isn't good for smaller miners that jump around coins based on which coin is most profitable at that moment. But if you are mining vertcoin long-term in a "fire and forget" sort of way, the variance will even out over a long enough period of time.

Man i was getting pretty discouraged because i tried solo mining knowing that i would get nowhere just to see the real difficulty, then p2pool.. This coin kinda kills that option though haha. I thought it was just me at first, good thing i came here to see that other people cant even get a share on p2pool. Oh well.

This N scrypt thing is interesting.

As i set up vertminer new i won´t let it run alone over night and so i powered down the miner yesterday evening after 6-7 hours mining withou getting a payout.
This morming i started again and within 1 hour i got first payments. So i don´t understand why, but now it is working. Each block that is found now a got my share.

Depends on your hashrate and luckiness. You got share, so now for given time, you get part of every block p2pool finds. It's simple, if you have 1Mhs -> on average 1 share every 3 hours, 500khs - > on average 1 share every 6 hours, 100khs -> on average 1 share every 30 hours. On low hashrate, you are playing lottery on p2pool, traditional pool is much better solution then (if you are not at least 1Mhs for now).

Hey guys

We've launched a new service called MinePit. It is a client application that allows you to monitor, and remotely control your miners from any web browser, and additionally is a collection of pools that can be mined with or without the software.

We've launched with 9 pools to start with and have chosen VTC coin as one of those. Feel free to have a look and jump in with the mining at https://www.minep.it.

Our main thread is here:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-minepit-the-future-of-mining-pools-523986

Many thanks,
MinePit Team
