Hey guys, I'm mainly active on reddit and usually just lurk here, but I wanted to cross-post my fundraising campaign to become the first Vertcoin sponsored athlete.

Today, my campaign proposal become a Vertcoin sponsored runner has been approved! This is going to be an ongoing project with no limit towards the amount you can donate. VTC donated will go towards running apparel with the Vertcoin logo, website hosting, and whatever else you guys would like to use it for! I'm already signed up for the Berlin Marathon on September 28th, but if a race accepts VTC it would be great to use funds for registration fees! I plan on running several half-marathons and other races leading up to Berlin (possibly a large marathon in May as well) so I am working on getting this project up and running as quick as possible.

I just registered vertcoinathlete.com and will try to get a website up within the next week. The website will include a bio and blog of training. There will be videos and pics of my training in the mountains of Colorado. I own a Go Pro camera and I'm excited to use it more! Vertcoin and the Vertcoin community will be implemented in all that I do.

Lastly, I would like to extend this offer to other Vertcoin athletes and e-athletes as well. Eventually, if funding proves successful, I would like to create an environment for motivated athletes with big goals. My goal is to run in the Boston Marathon, which requires a 3:05 marathon time. I feel like I can get there in 2016. What is your goal? Basically, I want to create a Vertcoin community sponsored sports brand deal. Sponsoring a large range of athletes living in countries around the world will up definitely up our exposure.
I'm going to need your help in getting this thing started. Simply go to the Official Fundraising Page and donate what you can. Your contribution will go towards raising Vertcoin awareness, benefiting the community, and in the very near future, helping athletes achieve their dreams. The more I think about this project campaign, the quicker I realize that this isn't just for me. Let's build something greater.

I'd already seen it myself, but thanks for re-posting - this is _fantastic_ news - there's nothing I want to see more for Vertcoin than people actually using it as a currency, and this shows that is happening.

Which build of vertminer would perform best on 2 hd 6870s? 0.5.2, 0.5.3 or 0.5.4?

The ASICs market is controlled by a hand full of chip development companies, the idea of saving power is indeed not the issue here. The real problem is that the market is controlled my those companies and their fucked up PRE order systems and prices which are sky high. That is not what Bitcoin was meant to be created for. That's far from decentralized and even further away from the idea not to have anyone control the market. I pay way to much for power and I might have to switch off my miner soon if mining scrypt goes down further the pit hole, but I rather give up mining than supporting companies which put you on a queue and letting you pay thousands of $ just to give you  the product you ordered at a time when it's outdated already. I liked the idea of ASICs until I realized how much it ruins the market...

+1 well said, IMO the developers of the chips need to be recognized for the part they have played in bringing BTC into the light, they too started against centralized fiat, a pool will never actually be centralized as its made up of many many pieces, i too think there is a place for both network's, thanx for the reply.

Well, I've always been open to the "ASICs secure the network" argument (or rather, open to the idea that I am wrong and other people are right), however I think https://blockchain.info/pools shows that ASIC mining is scalable in a way GPU mining really isn't (in fact, that pie chart looked uglier last time I looked, so well done BTC for spreading the hashrate around a bit) and that this leads to more centralisation of hashrate. I think it's probably still to early to say conclusively what impact ASICs will have (or cryptocurrencies as a whole - we're still in the complete infancy stage here, even with BTC).

I also think it's entirely possible that there's a good future for both networks that welcome ASICs and those that actively resist them as we do. Either way, we're all on the same side vs. fiat currencies, central banks and their orbiters, so long live BTC long live VTC.

4. Vulnerability in difficulty adjustment algorithm found - looking into it

That's quite a few things in the pipeline  

So what happens when the vertcoin developers offend someone and drive away all the hash power in 5 years? Pro Asic here and I am just wondering why it is better to go without millions of dollars investment in hardware going towards your blockchain security? Makes no sense to me! If Bitcoin did not have Asic mining then you would have seen alot more people with "Goxxed" written on there walletts.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I did spend a couple of hours just now (after seeing your post) trying to get blog.vertcoin.org up but I think Bushido has accidentally cloudflared it and there's an issue with the SSL certificate (the blog doesn't have on, the main site does) which is preventing it loading properly, so I'll aim to get it up ASAP for regular updates (I just emailed Bushido to ask him to fix the cloudflare issue) but give you an update here now.

The animation, I saw a sample of recently, and it looks really good. I expect Webbs might even have tried to contact me about it, but I've been unavailable for a couple of days - I'm sure you'll see that soon.

Tech wise, we've been really busy with a couple of things. Bengtake has been implementing cold-wallets in the GUI client (so you can track your VTC savings, while keeping them safely in cold storage, but viewing the balances in the live wallet) - I need to get a progress update from him, and I know he needed me to help debug/test some stuff last time I spoke to him.

We've also been really busy working on a vulnerability in the difficulty adjustment algorithm. The vulnerability seems mild(ish) as vulnerabilities go - it seems to permit a 51% attacker to do something extra that they shouldn't be able to do (change the difficulty) - there's an interesting thread at https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/delete-504103 with some discussion about it. We've got several solutions under consideration and have been meeting regularly about this the last few days.

Promotion wise, I've seen a lot of activity with some Chinese marketers and investors that have been in contact with several members of the team, but I don't know the fine details right now. Also, I keep hearing from Joe about the conference in NY, and am supposed to be talking to him about that today or tomorrow.

It's true. People are already dumping whole farms to avoid the glut. Getting some nice deals on fleabay.

I mean, its no way around! When ASIC's start to really kick in on scrypts, VTC will really kick on makrketcap.

smart anonymity (ie vert and stealth wallets)= mass adoption.   

Anonymity is important to people. I was disappointed the devs backtracked on their promise to implement zerocash. IMHO, Darkcoin is doing well and is ASIC resistant, plus mines much cooler. I hope drk considers zerocash protocol.
