hey there! I´m new to vertcoin. everything`s lookin great so far! nice devs, good community.

but i just downloaded the wallet and imo it looks a bit boring. what about adding the vertsymbol to the
overview page? this nice green would be looking great there!

Haha, I asked that the first week (obviously with the old logo) and I think Bushido nearly had a heart attack!!! He isn't a fan of logos in the wallet, sorry!

'All that glitters is not gold'
@Hardwyre

Nimue VTC pool STEAL from EVERY miner that work on this pool by setting this abusive fee of 0.1 VTC for the withdraw!
They say, I quote: "This 0.1 automatic payment transaction fee is a network fee and goes back to the network not to the pool".
The standard fee is just 0.001 VTC for using the VTC network  !
This is the reason for "ragging" !

Please remove NIMUE CRYPTOMINING VERTCOIN POOL (http://vertpool.nimuecrypto.com/) from the Vertcoin pool list !!

They don't deserve your hashing power !!

They have raised the withdraw fee to 0.1 VTC !!!

I can't witdraw my CONFIRMED 0.096332 VTC from here because of this change !

Please send an email to [email protected]

Email sent to this address, and to the Nimue pool, still no reaction..

Seriously?  You're raging over 0.1 VTC?

I think many people either refuse or otherwise fail to admit to themselves that the health of digital currency as a whole is dictated by and will be dictated by (in the long run) by bitcoin. The adoption

You are right of course.. we're all dependent on bitcoin atm.. if bitcoin falls, we fall.

Quote
Right now the biggest downside to bitcoins mass adoption is the anonymity, yes the philosophy behind bitcoin is almost anarchistic...but things will have to change a little before bitcoin becomes

I don't quite agree with this.. i think bitcoin's anonymity is a big deal, and governments will be scared by it.. but tbh, they will have to accept it.  This is a case where technology will change the government and the status quo, not the other way around.  We will have to find new ways of reducing criminal activity.. but this is not necessarily through the control of monetary tokens.  The government will develop new technologies to combat these things, i'm sure.. NSA snooping.. etc.  But to heavily regulate a decentralized system like this, is like trying to regulate TOR.. Imo, it will be doomed for failure...

If there's anything history teaches us, is that nothing will stop technology... only the society will adapt to it.  Governments will come and go.., empires will rise and fall.  But the tech will always improve.  And the bitcoin concept is one of those key technological innovations of the future that takes us another step forward.

Seems like VTC team wants to decide by themselves and not go with community opinion. I didnt see any POLL or Vote or democracy yet for any decision !

Once Btc is regulated and licensed, the adoption rate of bitcoin may well increase significantly in the mainstream economy. However, after that initial adoption, people will experience dissatisfaction with the lack of privacy and overall government monitoring of their transactions, which is why I think people will ultimately gravitate towards an anonymous blockchain. Vtc could be the coin of choice in that scenario if appropriate steps are taken now.

I dont really see that people are afraid of their privacy. Everyone is using credit cards and is very well accepting that transactions are traceable.
What I see more as a problem is that people might get upset with the fact that 95 % of their "new currency" are controlled by around 3.5% of the adresses. Considering that the distribution of many other altcoins i.e. LTC is similar these altcoins dont offer a real alternative. (currently 90% of LTC is owned by 3.7%)

And this is where the idea of VTC comes in. Being wide spread.

In terms of being widespread, I think auroracoin's distribution model will be more effective than Vtc. In terms of privacy, I think the widespread acceptance of credit card usage does indicate that privacy is not valued. It can perhaps be said that privacy is valued less than the convenience of using credit cards because people don't have a choice. If people had a choice, they would choose a credit card with anonymity built in. They might even be prepared to pay more for such a credit card.

I also believe most people don't understand they are losing their privacy when using credit cards because they have not really thought about it.

If Vertcoin doesn't take on some type of anonymity it'll be replaced by one that does have an adaptive N factor and anonymity. It's not about what government wants, rather what people want that use a currency. People use cash for a reason even though you can buy anything with a credit card by swiping it through your cell phone now days. A large pull for cryptocurrencies is that it's a safe haven from excessive taxes and expansive government power. The question for Vertcoin is whether it wants to be digital cash or only a replacement to credit cards. My thinking is that credit cards work fine. That's not what we're trying to replace. My hair stylist only accepts cash for a reason and it's small business owners like that who we want to target. If a coin is taxable it's worthless because I might as well just use dollars.

The argument that and anonymous currency can be used by criminals is weak at best. You could say the same thing about gold. Gold bars could be used as payment by gangs because they have no serial numbers and can be melted down into jewelry that can smuggled in and out of countries. All the governments in the world can yell about the evils of gold but nobody is going to listen to them because they see the real value.

Vertcoin does not derive value from being the same as bitcoin. Vertcoin generates value by fixing the failings of bitcoin and litecoin. Go our own path. We cannot beat bitcoin and litecoin at what they already do. Vertcoin can only beat those other coins by staying true to being the coin that people want to use.

This is why I also believe that no other scrypt-n coins will be able to dislodge vertcoin by simply copying vertcoin's algorithm.

If Vertcoin does not take first mover advantage in relation to anonymity then another coin will. And that coin will be the real alternative coin in a sea of competing coins of which vertcoin will just be another coin.

I think this is a mistake but it's not my career and money on the line. If anonymity is provided, I think this would clearly differentiate Vtc versus Btc, Ltc and Doge. As the overall adoption of crypto itself is less than 0.02% of population, I don't think one can conclusively say that Vtc adoption will not increase significantly if anonymity is provided.

I think many people either refuse or otherwise fail to admit to themselves that the health of digital currency as a whole is dictated by and will be dictated by (in the long run) by bitcoin. The adoption level is so far in that I've seen bitcoin references in some of the monday night tv shows that come on (like the show "Almost Human") and before any altcoin will ever be successful (and they are ALT coins) we will need to see the overall acceptance and MASS adoption of bitcoin. If the health of digital currency as a whole is actually depicted by the health of Bitcoin, we can then make the obvious conclusion that whatever is considered a downside to bitcoin (when it comes to society accepting bitcoin on a massive scale) will also be considered a downside to any other altcoin that tries to take the scene after bitcoin.

Right now the biggest downside to bitcoins mass adoption is the anonymity, yes the philosophy behind bitcoin is almost anarchistic...but things will have to change a little before bitcoin becomes truly massively adopted. Authorities are already prepared to make some serious regulations and enforcements if bitcoin turns out to be something too easily used by criminals, look at the hearing in New York, the goal organizations like the Bitcoin foundation are to help show that bitcoin is not necessarily something meant for criminals....In other words if an altcoin were to show itself to be BETTER at being used by criminals (like by implementing in it's code some form of function that made it's use even MORE anonymous than bitcoin) there would be some huge issues with adoption. Regardless of how many people want to be anonymous, do you think the world will accept Vertcoin if for example every government in the world came out and announced something like "Don't trust vertcoin, it is truly a currency for criminals, anyone we see dealing vertcoin will be seen as suspicious for criminal activity".

This is what the devs at vertcoin mean by saying governments will not stand by while we sit here and produce a coin ideal for criminal use. The goal here is to create a coin that is a competitor to Bitcoin, not the anti bitcoin...The moment Vertcoin becomes looked at as something bad or something that attracts "bad people", the coin will fail...

I think bitcoin will occupy the space of governmental regulations and mass adoption. I don't see vertcoin changing that status quo anytime soon.

If governments were to regulate mining and enforce a trackable blockchain in Bitcoin (which is the real threat caused by the centralisation of mining), this is where Ltc and Vtc would suddenly become more popular. If Vtc had anonymity built in, it could potentially leapfrog ltc.
