This is fantastic! I hope people get on board with this and inform new comers about it, I think this is the single best thing I've seen to help a community develop and promote a crypto.

Sorry, i was not exact enough.
From my understanding you use the fan settings from the miner even if fixed or within a defined range, correct?

With 0.5.3 i patched the miner with a ADL6 patch for R9 cards from the litecoin forum.
There are no known issues with this patch, it does only prevent a system crash after exiting the miner when a R9 290/290X is used.
I will check if there is a relation but without a proper use case how to provoke this issue it will be hard to find.

It is always a bad idea to use hardware control from within a piece of software (not only related to the miner).
Because if the SW crashes your hardware is not safe (crash = undefined state). Also there can be (unkown) SW errors.
Using the BIOS is safe but normally also louder.

Ain't no party like a Counterparty!

So, I had never mined before until today, been just purchasing btc for investment purposes but after learning about vertcoin and seeing that it's asic resistant I decided to give it a try. Spent all morning researching how to set up my XFX 7790 OC for this and now that i'm mining I feel wayy too happy lol. I guess I just wanted to share that i am oddly stupidly happy to be doing something productive with my computer lol. I really believe of all the various alt coins out there that this Vcoin has the most solid chance to succeed.

I actually do tech support for XFX so if my gpu does burn out due to this stuff i'll just turn it in for a new one at work lol, I'm happy to be working with you all and i hope vcoin really does topple btc in the long run

My 7950s run since > 1 week without any problem (only yesterday i had to restart because here we had a 2 second power loss)

Not overclocked much, stock mem on the 7950 (1250MHz) and 1020 MHz engine. They are undervolted to 1.081V, but had no issues at all on these settings using normal cgminer. No auto-fan, 85% fixed fan, 60 degrees. Note I had the same issue on R9 280X, different rig (different PSU brand, different motherboard etc). I've been running those 280X without touching it and without any problems on cgminer.

Hm, the settings look safe. My 7950s are at 1000/1500 with 1.012V (at 80°C with BIOS Fan control)

The only relation to the 0 RPM i can see is with the fixed Fan.
Did this happen also before with vertminer < 0.5.2? Or only now with vertminer-0.5.3?

I did now remember it could have coincided with some power fluctuations (we had rain and subzero temps, a lot of problems with powerlines), however in the settings topic there were several other people who also reported having the same problem, so I don't think that's it.
Also for some reason I am getting a small amount of HW errors when running 280X on intensity 13, but none at 12. Not sure what I could try to get those to zero, because I am not comfortable running with those errors as I am afraid it could have something to do with that problem, and don't wanna end up with broken cards. I tried lowering TC under 8k but that only increased HW errors, I tried raising it to around 10k but did not help at all.

I would start with a switch like "--do-not-warp-my-hardware"

I think about releasing a new version with max GPU 400MHz, max MEM 600 MHz, max Intensity 7 and Fan always at 100%.
Everything else must be forced with "--force-because-i-know-what-i-do"

Frontend is at http://vtcweb.poolz.net - will be available soon, please update your bookmarks. Mining is working on the same stratum host as before (stratum+tcp://vtc.poolz.net:3333) Because of the massive DDOS attack (3.5 GBit/s), server was disconnected approximately at 13:00 EST (last found block was at 12:51:09) Before disconnection - we were finding a lot of blocks (Blocks found), and now blocks are being found as well. I implemented CloudFlare DDOS protection, but had to move web frontend to other IP address and name. Soon it will be available. Auto payments are working. Thank you for your loyality!
