@Fernandez:

Obviously the Vertcoin wallet needs to access something externally in order to get sync'ed. If that's the only warning, then you can be quite sure it's not dangerous.

It was working fine for 4-5 hours. I even received 1 VRT as donation.

Its probably harmless. Still, I will wait and see if others report anything. I was not getting anything solominining so its no loss.

Btw, I am getting this message:

MY RED TRUST LEFT BY SCUMBAGS - READ MY SIG
whats the poin though , some people mined tons of it at the start.

Also this coin does not even stop botnets and vps nodes??

I see zero point in this coin.

I don't see how any coin could stop VPSs or dedicated servers, as long as it's a coin that uses any kind of PoW or PoS. A botnet ... you could try, but it's quite the same.

The point in this coin ... it's just another altcoin with a little bit different algorithm that will make it difficult initially for botnets or GPUs, with a clean launch, that's already more than most recently released coins Tongue

Well, memory coin attempted this with huge Memory requirements from the start.

This coin (if i am understanding it correctly)  does nothing to stop botnets at all , especially at the start. I mean the memory requirement for the intial blocks is nothing, so botnets and vps nodes can take all the easy coins as usual as is happening now??

The fact it will in the future makes it difficult to mine with gpu or asic makes it no different  to the scrypt jane or even have QRK for anti gpu now??

So really again i see no point.

If you used the block explorer for this coin you would see a few wallets reaping most of the coins as with most other launches.

its not that easy to mine with botnets when still solo mining...so not botnets havent taken yet. and about VPS so what? people are paying to mine cause they give a value on the coin...its the same with every coin. And at least this coin unlike memorycoin didnt have a fail dev who premined 8+% of the coins....

cheap VPS nodes are just as bad, we need a cpu coin where normal people in the public (who do not wish to use digital ocean) can mine and it be worth their time. Also the easy coins are gone now i would have had lower block rewards for the low diff.
Memory coin premined 8% of the coins??? i did not know this, but then again i have zero PTS nor memory coin 2. I just thought the idea was good , however now i hear gpu mining is again possible.

Even so i still hold i see zero purpose for this coin.  If it has started with N much higher then yes.  Or lower block rewards for the first 1000 or few 1000 blocks would have been better.

Anyway mine it if you like. It has at least something new and therefore above most clones, however the innovation in this case was not implemented correctly to over come the current issues with mining.

I like the principle behind the coin, but I think this still isn't rewarding for solo miners.

On the other hand you have to take into account that if it would reward only solo miners, other would lose interest. It should always be something in between, and this coin still is quite good solo mineable, although my "hits" become more and more sporadic.

It's always a game of fortune. Problem is that it's very difficult to calculate your chances - it's mostly better understandable by common examples and that's generally diffucult concerning cryptos.

If you bring enough cpu cores you can increase your chances. Some do and pay money for it. That shows that those people see a future for this coin. Other with fewer cpu cores available always have the same chance. But they can combine their chances by mining in a pool. This is the logical next step (for every coin).

Thus we need to get those pools ready very soon.

As I am running a small farm and already paying for this coin, I'd like to support BorisTheSpider's more forward regarding a pool-capable miner and increase the bounty towards the dev bounty ;-) by another whole block worth 50 VTC. Now we have:

Bounty (towards dev bounty) for releasing a pool-capable cpuminer. cgminer also very appreciated.

I was running it in Sandboxie and suddenly I got an error and it shut down. I started again and it shut down again with Sandboxie saying its trying to access something externally.

Anybody else getting this?

Just me then?

I stopped mining as I do not trust to run it out of a sandboxed environment.

Just you, it seems. 0/48 score on virus total. Not even a single false positive.

If you don't trust, you can check the code in Github and complie the code by yourself though.

You are missing all the surfers and pool techs by 'not' being on the IRC.

We have ##vertcoin on freenode.

Difficulty keeps rising and demotivating many solo miners running typical home equipment very soon.

In order to keep this coin coming devs should setup or publish one pool by themselves and put out a bounty for two more pools quickly.

Before we can have pools we need cgminer or cpuminer adapted to the Vertcoin algorithm. I agree - it's certainly not too late to solomine yet, but it won't be long if the coin keeps attracting this kind of hashrate growth.

I'll put up an entire block of 50VTC towards a dev bounty if someone will get a pool-capable mining client out for VTC. Anyone else joining me?

My client problem? Somebody with big guns took a break? I miss smth and there is simple explanation? Or this coin is screwed?
Network hashrate falls by ~6 Mh/s:

10MH/s on net...  Shocked

11 now! Shocked

We need pools! Not one or two, but at least 3 of them. (remember the 51% rule...)

If we don't get at least 3 pools for Vertcoin within the next 24 hours, this coin will get into serious trouble.

Just my 0.02 VTC   ;-)
