Dear members,

We are eager to inform you that the long awaited moment has finally come. www.Virtex.com - the international cryptocurrency exchange is officially open!
It has been a long and exciting road to date, but the real excitement only begins.

Virtex is a cryptocurrency exchange which is owned by Virtex Systems Ltd and is operated from Lithuania, Europe. The company is mainly run by three entrepreneurs. These are: Paulius Meskauskas (CEO), Tomas Andzelis (CMO) and Mantas Gustys (CRO). Besides them there are over 20 people from various fields of expertise involved with this project. Our main aim is to bring a trusted, transparent and liquid exchange which will hopefully set the industry standard one day.

If anyone would ever decide to go with such deceitful tactics why would they not choose a globally recognized name, the best name out there? Why not Bitfinex, why not Bitstamp? Why would anyone ever choose a name that has a lot less value than others around it?

Virtex has been running longer and has more trust than either of those two.

Also, bitfinex.com and bitstamp.com were already registered by the companies trading under the corresponding names.

Virtex were trading using the cavirtex.com domain only, so virtex.com was available to register by someone looking to cash in on their good name.

As one of the oldest exchanges pretty much everyone involved in Bitcoin has heard of Virtex.  To claim it is only known to Canadians is just wrong.

I'm sure this was considered when they chose the name, however, a smarter entrepreneur would have recognized a small backlash from the community would have greater effect than any benefits gained from people confusing the name and then signing up thinking it was Cavirtex.

Dear 'medicine' (and whoever else is reading this thread for that matter), I would simply like to say that such accusations could not be any further away from reality than they are right now. Just listen to what you are saying - "benefits gained from people confusing the name and then signing up thinking it was Cavirtex"... I urge you to think about two very simple things:
1) What do you think the total amount of people using their localized service is? 2) What do you think the total amount of people that trade BTC;LTC globally is?

Of course the fact that our name is similar to an existing localized exchange was weighed, but it had nothing, and I cannot stress this enough - NOTHING to do with any illusions that we might benefit from this name by deceiving people in to thinking that it is the same company. This is complete nonsense considering that we aim for a completely different audience. If anyone would ever decide to go with such deceitful tactics why would they not choose a globally recognized name, the best name out there? Why not Bitfinex, why not Bitstamp? Why would anyone ever choose a name that has a lot less value than others around it?

I have said this many times before, and I (naively)hope I will not need to say this again, but the main reason why we chose this name is that we saw it as a name that best incorporates what we are and where we are going. We were as open as possible from the start about this issue - stating that we have nothing to do with Cavirtex; we have mentioned this in several press releases; we have mentioned this in every single social media channel that we control and if we find anyone, anywhere that confuses the name we instantly try to correct them.

Please just drop this nonsense and relax. The name will not be changed. We will not steal a single customer from Cavirtex as we offer people to trade on completely different markets. And please keep in mind that there never was, is or ever will be any intention to steal any customers from anyone by trying to impersonate them.

We aim to build our customer base by providing a transparent, fast and reliable service. And that is exactly what we have been working on so far.

Sincerely, the Virtex team.

I'll be the first end-user to say the names are confusing/too similar.

Strangely enough I was wondering when this would become an official thread on bitcointalk
Did mix the two up myself anyways it does seem like a bad idea to use an established brand name

I totally agree the names are too similar and confusing.  I'm sure this was considered when they chose the name, however, a smarter entrepreneur would have recognized a small backlash from the community would have greater effect than any benefits gained from people confusing the name and then signing up thinking it was Cavirtex.

If this group had been involved (paying attention) to how things work around here they would have chosen a different name.  Maybe add your Country name before "virtex" to distinguish it.  Not sure which country you are from, but something like the Country abbreviation in front of the name?

Is the company willing to consider a name alteration?

I think the best thing for virtex.com to do would be to apologise to Virtex (cavirtex) Go have a think about a new name then come back never speaking of it again.

I'm quite shocked that someone could get this far in a start-up business thinking it would be a good idea to call themselves the same as another company name. Especially one that is also a  Bitcoin exchange.

I know you're going to reply with "it's not the same name" but if you did a poll, I bet the vast majority would think it is.

The Bitcoin community is very protective over its own "members" especially ones that have been around since 2011 ie CaVertex.

Personally I wouldn't want start a company then piss off an entire community (ie your customers) by calling yourself the same as an existing bitcoin exchange cavirtex.com.

BUT
I do think that we need more exchanges and more awareness of Bitcoin in general. We should just play a bit nicer.

Just my opinion. But I'm entitled to it.

Good news. Literally! We have been featured in several online financial news magazines.

(NOTE: Leaprate has made a misteke: we will not allow traders from FATF blacklisted countries, we have contacted them in order for this mistake to be corrected)

P.S. @cavirtex does the 'Canadas oldest and biggest exchange' really have nothing better to do than spam?

Does /news/sponsored-stories/ mean you paid for the article? And if so wouldn't it be better described as an advertisement?

Virtex has been trading BTC/CAD for years, using the name Virtex. It's just rude to trade on their good name. If the professionalism of your exchange is anything like that of your writing, customers would be well advised to steer clear.

Edit: I only found your site and this thread because I clicked on an ad that said Virtex was launching a new trading platform. I thought it was the real Virtex, who I trust, not some noob using their good name. I imagine such confusion isn't unusual.

Also our cold wallet is going to be stored on a dedicated system that will come online less than once a day for brief random interval to carry out necessary transactions. This way its exposure to possible unauthorized access  is minimized.

All your cash is kept in a bank vault which we keep locked for your safety. We open it to the public less than once a day, minimising exposure.

CAVIRTEX | Canadian Virtual Exchange
Please note that Virtex is Virtex and Cavirtex is Cavirtex, 2 ( two ) different companies.

Thank you. And we are sorry once again for this misunderstanding.

I have an excellent solution for the confusion you've caused: Use a different name.

I don't think they have to. Nothing so far indicates that these guys are trying to clone you.  They arent even offering CAD conversions.

If you were so much worried about your branding, you should have bought the virtex domain as part of your business investment.

Thank you very much for your response. You have brought up the exact points that we try to emphasize.

Spoken like a true wolf in sheep's clothing.

Caveat emptor.

Ok Check!

When it comes to safety we take it very seriously. With the recent events that shook up the BitCoin world we strive to do everything in our power to protect your funds. That's why we are using SSL (Secure Sockets Layered) technology to ensure that your information is fully encrypted and sent across the Internet securely. Also our cold wallet is going to be stored on a dedicated system that will come online less than once a day for brief random interval to carry out necessary transactions. This way its exposure to possible unauthorized access  is minimized.

Wow..connecting cold wallets to internet...That is a definite crack. It might not hurt you as a start up exchange. But as you grow, you'd be exposing yourself to a real security threat.

CAVIRTEX | Canadian Virtual Exchange
the kind of money needed to trade is high but the fees look good. Has anyone used this yet? its kind of interesting.

Caveat emptor.

Canadian Virtual Exchange (https://www.cavirtex.com), also known as VirtEx, is Canada's oldest and largest Bitcoin exchange.

You have to ask yourself, why did this upstart company based in Eastern Europe choose to use this name when setting up a Bitcoin exchange?
