In order to dump coins one must have coins
So even if you have some skepticism of segwit, it might be prudent of you to support the actual (rather than hypothetical) direction of bitcoin by storing a portion of your coins on segwit, even if, you decide to follow through and store the vast majority in legacy addresses

All right, I'll bite...

What about storing some value on a segwit address is prudent?

Wait you're seriously one of those that are willing to pay higher transaction fees because you fear that segwit will be unraveled? I mean 30% of all of the transaction have been segwit for quiet some time now, i'm willing to bet that vast majority of coins touched segwit at some point in their life. Like it or hate it segwit is here to stay and you have to be next level delusional still trying to preach spend by any mantra

By the way ...does anyone think that Jihan Wu of Bitmain has the will or the balls to do a 51% attack on BTC? This being 1) his ego and 2) his efforts in BCH.

here is the link

https://cryptobriefing.com/bitmain-51-attack-bitcoin-network/

Better minds on here then myself ...if you were an 'evil genius' and planning this...how would it go down and what would you do?

(sorry, not evil genius material...simply trying to follow along on how this would be done ...as a loyal 'evil genius minion', don't ya know! Smiley

(do crypto they said in 2013, be a nice hobby, help micro-lending in India they said...sheesh...what a ride now in hindsight..and no end in sight yet!)
The real problem is not a Doctor Evil scenario, but human nature. When there is an incentive to cut corners then, over time, more people will do so. Eventually concern for properly verifying signatures could decay to the point where more miners don't than do. Who knows what could happen after that.

Honesty is a weak thing. Only the strong have the luxury of morals, and the fiercer mining competition becomes the less honest miners will be.

Bitcoin's market-cap is now a mere $100 billion.

Bitcoin is still measured in dollars and not dollars in Bitcoin :/
It's measured in purchasing power and always will be.

btw re: narcissism: Their defining traits are hate and envy. That's where what people commonly think of as narcissistic symptoms come from.

Pretty much this.

I wonder If any of these people will be able to make a public appearance after a coup like this.

See this photo?

Do you think any of these 3 are bold enough to trigger a world war and strong enough to survive through it? Are they brave enough to spend the rest of their lives in an underground bunker with the fears of getting killed at any second?

All I see here is 3 *aggots.

Yeah right.  You think that they can really generate enough folks to follow their narcisistic leadership path?

It seems that your last sentence tells most of it... they are not inspiring enough.. maybe they need a new leader?  Gavin Andressen?

That's the problem with the narcissistic people... They can't let it go.

Especially the two of them. People with Narcissistic personality disorder will always want attention. They want to attend to meetings, conferences, talk in front of cameras, act like an important person etc. They can't stand the idea of being the man in the shadows. Jihan can be that man, he is a bit different than the other two. Even if he decides to be the man, it won't make him bulletproof.  Grin

Jay, fuck yourself with some style.
Oh wait, you already did. So. Many. Times.

Another one bites the dust...

Capitulation is seeming closer, no?

Are there any bulls that are still posting in the WO thread today besides me?

Perhaps, tentatively, we got bitserve, micgoosen, rayx12, torque, cAPSLOCK, fluidjax, RoomBot, Jimbo, and ________?

Of course there are some other bulls who have just been silent in the past few days, but that would not necessarily change their bull status, right?

this man had a belgum VS england match with afterward a poker/evening-night session to play and with good luck to win some cheap HOT BTC's

so me is very happy .............  Grin  Grin

permabull

i keep selling my bitcoin cheap, very cheap just to live

 Wink

If you are telling the truth, then sounds like 1) you may have overinvested and 2) you seem to be doing the opposite of what you should be doing...   I mean these seem like buying rather than selling times.

Woops.. I agree that you have been pretty consistently bullish through good and bad, and surely we have a pretty brave story from you in the mid 2016 period... hahahahahaa..  Initially, you looked like a bullish fool, but in the end, you were the one laughing.    Not everyone takes such bullish chances and pays off so dearly... so I would suppose their continues to be decent equity and cushion from that whole situation.

November 11 we had same price as of today's, Exactly 1 month later we saw ATH so Bitcoin to fly back from today's level is not impossible. While I am saying its not impossible at the same time I am accepting that Bitcoin could go as low as $5K in the worst scenario $4700

Edit:The lower we go the higher Next ATH will be.

Even though you are correct that the price could go shooting up, the general theory about price movement is that price tends to go most easily with momentum that is already in place.. so right now, the recent history seems to establish that BTC's price momentum is to the downside.

Since the price has been pushing down for a long time, it is going to take a bit more time and effort for the momentum to reverse from DOWN to UP - and take a bit of time to convince folks that the momentum has reversed from DOWN to UP.

For the current leg, and I repeat myself yet again, why was segwit better than simply doubling the blocksize? Nobody seems willing to explain that bit, for whatever reason.

Answer why doubling the block size is even needed at this point in time. With actual logic and facts to back your argument.

Because using LN requires opening channels on chain. To do this in a decentralized fashion, LN can onboard no more than several hunnert thousand peeps per day.

Several hundred thousand peeps opening/closing LN channels per day seems a bit overkill currently, don't you think?

Currently? Yes.

But I thought LN was supposed to be a scalability solution. And eliminate the benefit of bigger blocks.

LN is in BETA and the developers will make it scale into the millions, just give them time to develop it. Opening/closing a channel will be for most people a one time job.

Develepors are not against a block size increase, we'll have one later on but don't expect giga blocks. My guess is to 2mb ore 4 mb and combine it with Segwit.

This whole scaling debat was only about taking control, i'm utterly shocked how people follow PR-guy Roger Ver without any knowledge about programming instead following people who KNOWS how to develop Bitcoin.

The only thing people needs to do is listen to developers and not to some random guy on the internet.

listen to developers
(always get multiple sources and outside of your industry)

no thanks been down that road before

some of them (a nutless monkey could do a better job)

Still a bull...  Horizons are not very short though.  Could be a continued painful short term.  Who knows?

These days are changing the holders.

Is this the end of cryptography?

if it is the elites of banking and finance will control blockchain..with no open source option like alts and btc...thus they will benefit from the cheap

transaction fees and use of blockchains...of course, none of those fees will go to the consumer...they will pay the same fees or more like now and all

the benefits and profits of this would go to the elites and banks etc....thus if that is the case ..prepare for the age of trillionaires..indeed...add a bit

of robotics and you have Bladerunner, the movie in real life!

myself I have 100 btc..just gonna HODL at 1/2 the value now or more say 2.5k it is still way more than when I got in...the main thing is that I stay retired

so far .even at that rate I can keep the 100 btc and just play the alts out for the next 2 years...so bring it! (it helps if you have no life..fyi...no temptations to sell)

by the by it was around 2.5k BTC at this point a year ago...I admit should have sold some on the pump...but then again...just cause we are down to 6k or so

vs 2.5k last year...does not mean it is a 'true bubble'

a 'true bubble' from what I gather goes down to NOTHING.....I still say AT WORST we have 3k coin in use and adoption (watch me eat this but saying it anyway)

whatever, the crypto gods giveth, the crypto gods taketh away!

Halvening is a long way off and even then it's effects are gradual not immediate.    The lead upto it might be hyped, the anticipation being bullish but I'd hope theres more near term positives then a simple known algorithm function.   People and expansion of peoples use for crypto should be a positive that is not yet known

The first rise encountered less sellers, everyone was in a gain at that point.   Right now we have certain sellers.   People always over invest money they cant actually forget about and need back and in a super bullish trend like Bitcoin had, that effect is amplified so now there is volume overhead.  A series of trenches to negotiate not a clear field.   I do think a price rise after markets confirm a bottom would be more confident rising then is now but its certain there is some sellers ready also so demand growth is necessary to be bullish.

This is extremely orderly, Bitcoin Richter scale volatility not so apparent nowadays

From that article: "Contrary to what an outsider might think, people who manage other people’s money don’t base their decisions on how to maximize returns. Their first consideration is whether they could justify their actions should something go wrong."

Insightful.
