Market prices tend to rise with increased demand. That is a market function. And when you are still lower than your closest competitor, people will still prefer your service over theirs. If a bank wire costs 10$ and takes days and a btc transfer costs 1$ and takes minutes, why would I use SWIFT instead of BTC?

True, Bitcoin today enjoys a 91% market share of crypto. However, in the overall scope of a USD $7B asset class adrift in a many-$T sea, that market share is not unassailable. Indeed, should the masses finally decide to adopt crypto, I would expect them to adopt one that they can actually _use_, rather than one that prevents them from participating due to an arbitrary limitation. Any of dozens of shitcoins are waiting in the wings to meet this market need, jealously awaiting a chance to procure adoption by delivering real value in comparison to Bitcoin.

IOW, you have an inaccurate picture of the competitive marketplace.

And if you think miners would not switch in a second to some other coin, should it deliver larger profits, you are delusional.

Anyhow, probably time to put on a full-node again,

I restarted 24/7 on mine about a month ago, due to the controversy. Currently running Core, but not as support for core dev position. I am _very_ motivated to find an alternative. If only the 'anything but 1MB4EVA stasis' crowd had a single standard to rally around...

Do you run yours from your computer at home, or from a vps?

I have been meaning to start running one, but I can't run mine from home, and it costs quite a lot for a decent vps that's reliable and has sufficient bandwidth. What's the lowest spec vps that can run a full node, and how much data would it probably use in a month?

Sine secretum non libertas
I been away too long.  AFAICT, the development community is b0rked, needs a re-org: Deadlock, appearances of special interest corruption/co-option/subversion/subbornment, and rather more incivility than is usual.

I hated the XT business - considered it very irresponsible - but considering the drama pulled since then by "interested" parties, I can now start to see why it might have been deemed the best choice in a bad situation, and my initial judgement may have been grossly uninformed.

I'm also starting to get very bearish, monkey be damned.

Anyhow, probably time to put on a full-node again, resume hashing regardless of RoE, if ever there was one.

Ok, the atmosphere in here has obviously turned sour.

I suggest that brg444 removes his post where he arrests me in my fuckup and then I believe everything else will resolve itself nicely.

Ok?

Sounds good?

Ok, then.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to"Non-custodial"
Isn't a sense of humor relative, anyhow?  I mean one poster's funny is another poster's somber.

Am I the only one who thought it said "posterior" on the first pass?

That means that either you or monkey naturally have a sense of humor, and you do not need to work on your humor, like some others need.   Shocked

^I personally think you are hysterical. Wink

Edit: I read something interesting today, thought I might share it here.

How many senses do YOU have? Most people would say 5, but why pick 5? What about the sense of balance provided by your vestibular system? What about proprioception, the sense you have of where your limbs are when you close your eyes? That's 7 so far...

Not sure if sense of humour is a metaphor or not.

That is because you do not understand.

Maybe that. Or I have to spell out all my jokes for you. One or the other.

You know a conversation is not about technical merits when words like "small blockers" and "cripplecoiner" start dominating the argument.

Key to winning an argument without logic:
Lump a bunch of people into a group, then attack that group. Usually by pointing out some bad actions of one or a few members of that group.

You know a conversion is not about technical merits when people have to resort to massive censorship and manipulation to dominate the argument (reddit bans, comment deletion, sorting by 'controversial' instead of 'best', the GCBU thread freeze on bitcointalk [largest and most popular thread with 1.3M views]).

Key to winning an argument without logic:
Lump a bunch of people into a group, then attack that group, then ban everything they say and every participant in that group.

but it's been over TWO YEARS since the last ATH and we're still well under 50% of that level now and I believe that is primarily because of smallblocker obstinance.

You nailed it. That's the reason why btc is 50% down from ATH. Not the unrealistic 2013 pump & dump where price went from $10 to $1000. Obviously "smallblockers" crashed it back down to 100-200$....  Roll Eyes

And your assumption that fees must "eventually skyrocket" would be a sign of failure. Instead of fees going up 100x we need the number of fee-paying users to go up 100x.

In terms of industry, or services, prices tend to lower when there are economies of scale benefits. But are there economy of scale benefits in our case, or is there a proportional cost increase when you go from, say, 1mb to 100mn blocks, to accommodate 100x in demand?

Yes... it's confirmed to be happening in BJA's head.

Honest injun. Cry Cry Cry

Okay, I'll bite.

What part of the analogy dont you like, or feel is less than accurate?

Frequently, libertarians, such as BJA, become very prejudgemental about group action and the motives of persons in authority, such as representatives or government authorities.

Therefore, these libertarians paint a picture, not as artfully done as Animal Farm, regarding bad motives of government officials.  Sure there may be some truth to those kinds of bad motives playing out and developing in some situations, but bad motives and biases and self-dealings are not a given - except, I do understand that many countries, including the USA, need to figure out ways to lessen the influence of money in politics (and yes, there is a bit of an inexactness in suggesting the blockchain is governmental in the same way that politics is governmental.

I am not taking any side for or against bigger blocks - well actually, it does seem that at some point in the near future, we are going to need to have bigger blocks... and even a plan going forward regarding bigger blocks without constant back and forth.

To me, it seems that I am just a bit more comfortable and tollerant with allowing the back and forth process to  play itself out without getting so worked up about it and accusing bad motives of others, rather than painting every scenario as doom and gloom or continuing to assert that the sky is falling, when that surely is not the case.

What you need is a sense of humour. A sense of humour allows you to see things from both perspectives, because thats what jokes essentially are - regular stories which at some point suddenly change direction. Without it you will continue to see things from a fundamentalist perspective, and that it certainly no fun.

A sense of humour would allow you to see the intelligence of his post, but still retain your own belief.

I guess somehow in your infinite wisdom and social/psycho analyses you've figured out what I need based on my making a few posts on a forum...

Go figure?

I get your point in regards to "cripplecoiners". However, I insist that "small blockers" is as accurate a name as possible, for the group that advocates no increase in the maxblocksize.
