Got email from Coinbase saying that "if you sent your bitcoin for them to sell, then they would produce tax documents for you where they would be indicating the "base/cost" as ZERO", with a lame excuse of not knowing what it cost you (instead of indicating the value of bitcoin when they GOT IT).

For 2022 it is still not covered by automatic reporting (like stocks), but if next year they will start...and that was in some of laws that already passed, and then many of us would have huge problems, potentially, as they will report your sale price and your imaginary "cost" at ZERO to the three letter dudes.

since i send in a form 8949 with all cost basis and sells why would that matter? i assume coinbase has always sent all data they have already whether they admit or not.

Yes, and this is how it was with stocks before too: brokerage sent you your sells info, and then you filled the cost of stocks yourself, as you and myself still do on 8949, but NOW they are trying to implement the "automatic" system (similar to the one currently giving you the bottom line of all your stock trades) where they will send both sells and costs, theoretically, but they have no clue about the cost, so they SAY that they will send you ZEROES as costs, which you would have to modify by yourself manually, increasing the probability of an audit. Of course, if you have all the docs, then audit is just a technicality, but it would still consume some time, right?

TL;DR It is one thing to NOT get a form (as of now where you fill 8949 manually) and another  is to get an ERRONEOUS form and then "modify" it. The difference is glaring (to me).

But back then the WO was different, so that I didn't even want an ignore list.  ...Even the former trolls, like Stolfi or Roach were always an interesting read.
The idiots don't even write anything to read anymore, let alone anything interesting.
They just post images and links from Twatter.

You rang?

Doomed to see the future and unable to prevent it
I was court ordered to AA years ago and went up there and called them all a bunch of weak willed pussies and was told I was a disrupting influence and they signed off on my court mandated meetings.

*I was pissed right off the bat when I read the steps and one of them was to accept jesus as my lord and savior and told them there is no way I was going to do that.

You knew I was meriting that post didn’t you bro? Cheesy

..... I forgot to check the price of bitcoin during dinner.

I've got my price checking addiction habit down to once a day.
You need to go to a meeting bro. They start like this....

(at meeting)... "Hello everyone, I'm Homer and I'm a bitcoin aholic"

  ..... "HI HOMER!"

(If one has never been to a "meeting", this post will probably go "woooosh")

Dr. Lance Dodes wrote a book about that and did an interview with NPR:

https://www.npr.org/2014/03/23/291405829/with-sobering-science-doctor-debunks-12-step-recovery

"...There is a large body of evidence now looking at AA success rate, and the success rate of AA is between 5 and 10 percent. Most people don't seem to know that because it's not widely publicized. ... There are some studies that have claimed to show scientifically that AA is useful. These studies are riddled with scientific errors and they say no more than what we knew to begin with, which is that AA has probably the worst success rate in all of medicine...."

I went to one meeting (NA) many moons ago just to say I have. I was like “this is nonsense!”
I think I was the only one in there not nodding off. What a joke.
When I quit dope, the last place I wanted to be was with a gathering of chain smoking, junkie losers, reciting the same old tired sob stories. It’s enough to make one want to go use again.

NA = I quit all illegal drugs by myself I don't need meetings
GA = Still go after 32 years this one still scares me a bit so I do meetings ,but gambling meetings have a shit ton of energy to them.
Nic A = Went from 1996 to 2001         so no smoking I don't need meetings
AA = was forced to go in the USN long complex story reality is I needed GA I still drink on Occasion but drinking is not an issue.
OA = 1 meeting and basically fuck that shit they were real zombies. I weighed  256 in 1996 when I went .  I weigh 205 now.

SO of all of the above:

Nic A did help me to quit smoking .

And GA was very helpful still is.

Success rates under 10% from my observations in GA and Nic A. I did 2000+ GA meetings and a few hundred Nic A  meetings.

Whoa! It seems you may have a anonymous meetings addiction.
Is there an anonymous community with meetings for that too? Wink

i went to an aa meeting for reasons. main takeaway was some alcoholics cant read for crap. as we had to read passages from the "big book" and many barely were able to read out loud.

this was a few decades ago, maybe its different now.

A Bitcoiner chooses. A slave obeys.

My memory is not the best on that case, but the hitman stuff seems to have been a kind of set-up by the feds who lured Ulbricht into it.
Afaik, the murder allegations were dismissed in the end.

I do not know if it a pre-planned setup into getting him to hire killers or if it was his own plan. But ultimately, giving the order was Ross's own decision. He thought they were real killers at the time and he gave them the order to murder 6 people. Whether he was egged on by the FBI or not does not really matter to me after that point. I do not see how anyone can defend him. He himself does not deny this.

welp, welcome to the ignore list.

the ignore list...  I still refuse to use it.  But with the recent wave of dumbness hitting the WO I ponder...

After enough years you will need it for your sanity.

*not many of use actually read this entire friggin thread (sans scrolling JJgs longer winded shit). Cheesy

I read the WO for many years before creating my account, so I couldn't use the ignore list feature at first anyways.

But back then the WO was different, so that I didn't even want an ignore list.  ...Even the former trolls, like Stolfi or Roach were always an interesting read.

Nowadays meh...
but still... I love this community and I have a feeling of missing out a part (even though it's the shitty one) of WO reality, if I use ignore...  so I somewhat still prefer scrolling through the ideocracy...
let's see how long I can bear it ...
