I understand that I may be a biased bull, but can someone intelligibly explain to be please, why the China news is THAT bearish for bitcoin esp in China, considering they said it is legal to buy and own?  they don't want their institutions to transact with it, okay fine.  that definately sucks.  how does that mean it's dead there though, barring them announcing theyll lock away citizens and torture them if they own bitcoins.

I also don't see the bearish between the lines in that bobby letter, in fact it sounds bullish to me.

this is all for curiosity's sake anyhow as it's a big world and China can take this stance now, if they even stick to it in the long run it's not a big deal for bitcoin longterm

I think it just comes down to market uncertainty in the short term.  For instance, when the price of BTCChina goes very low, it's possible to purchase coins from Chinese panic sellers and quickly flip them on BitStamp or Gox for a (nearly) risk-free profit.  I think some market participants are expecting this, and thus set their bids lower than they otherwise would.

In the short term, I believe we can indeed dip lower again (Christmas holiday massacre?), and I don't think we can make a strong move above the ATH until there is some closure regarding BTCChina.

Disclosure: I am long-term bull that thinks we will continue to grow with or without the blessing of the Chinese government.

Because currently lots of bitcoin commerce is hedged or converted to fiat sometimes instantly.  That's kinda hard to do if banks can't work with bitcoin.

china is fucked. there's still prostitutes available for qq coin though. the Chinese black market is bigger that several European economies though. Still fucked though.

Does not look too rosy for bulls now... My final speculation before Christmas is that we will see quite low prices (already) before New Year's.

Merry Christmas/Xmas/Holidays everyon! Smiley

My speculation is $5k in 2014 .. so Merry Christmas for every one who is holding, and for those who are selling me cheap coins. :-)

When Einstein explained the theory of relativity, it wasn't that the older physicists eventually came to realize that he was right.  What happened instead is that they all died, leaving behind only the younger ones who were less blind to truth.

True!!!

nice reference, have to remember that one

So you just explained how we can speed up the process Tongue

To generalize a bit; it tends to happen with all new breakthroughs around the world. Remember that innovators were always the crazy ones that defied the "correct road". I've a theory that I present to fellow scientists; they tend to like it, so I present it here for you:

"If you want to invent something new you should study all those things, that others before you, have theorized and written into books. You MUST then, forget all about this shit. Invent your own way of thinking to understand what they were trying to express. Forget their laws, try make up your own ones. Be smart, be unique, be like a small child. You will eventually get it wrong; but there's a chance you get it right... and when you do, you will realize that there are many ways to get up this mountain apart from the known path.

There are very few innovators in the world because WE ARE FORCED to follow the books. If this was a successful method; we would be full of new theories, devices and innovations all around us. It seems it works the other way around..."

They all love it, because I tell them not to study too much... Wink

Funnily enough, Einstein spent the the last half of his life opposing the new insights of quantum mechanics, just like older physicists had opposed his theory of relativity.  Tongue  Tells a lot about the human condition I think.

great add! have to remember that one also Smiley
