Is it diesel or lpg for you?

Bwaahaha..   Cheesy

Nah.. seriously.. i was glad to have work to do today, because it was pretty boring in truth.

It's not funny man!!! It's a critical choice for us in Greece! Our all-knowing government (and the EU along with it) are at the brink of completely banning commuting!!!  Roll Eyes Shocked

How, huh? What?

I like to think I'm usually informed about European politics (EU uber alles! jk.), but what is this about? How can anyone "ban" commuting? Or are they cutting commuting subsidies?

Care to explain? (I have friends in Greece I could ask, but I'm too lazy to write Cheesy)

It's 1.63 per liter of gasoline here, or $8.44 per gallon of it! Do you need more explanation?

It's 1.3 here and you can't even go and compare the income of the average Greek with that of a Romanian.
And still people are driving like nuts all day.

Like most here, I gently smile when I read one of those many mainstream articles claiming "Bitcoin could take off, but they really need to implement reversible transactions". It's a feature, bitch, not a bug.

But I *am* aware that reversible transactions are not per se bad. In fact, in many cases you might want something like that. Enter Paypal.

I have no idea if they're smart and nimble enough to see this huge opportunity, but if I were them, I'd at least have a small internal team dedicated to the possibility of setting something up like this, exploring the legal framework necessary to pull it off, etc.

Great insight, thezerg!

The simple quick answer is if reversible transactions are desired, yes they are possible by layering another service on top of bitcoin. Bitcoin is a protocol and you can build anything on top of it.

For example paypal itself could offer a bitcoin service with reversible transactions. Here payments are given to paypal in a users account, and the bitcoins have to stay in the account for a certain period of time. During that time paypal could reverse the transaction since they still have the coins, and after the time period allow the receiver to withdraw to an external account.  The service would cost x% of the transfer.

Now people/merchants can decide for themselves if they want to use the service or not. Merchants can say, you can pay me X BTC for direct payment or X+4% for through paypal service. Now people that trust each other don't have to pay the fee.

That's how a free market and individual choice works. That is what bitcoin is designed for.

how come that i was selling coins on mtgox for 964.50 and price went to 964.65 without getting my coins sold?

limited amount of coins being sold and someone else having an order ahead of you would be my best guess.

so that's possible on gox even if my coins are cheaper than the others?
They weren't cheaper, they were the same price as somebody else's and they placed the order before you did.

Blame the dinosaurs for not having more sex. Politicians can't magically conjure fossile fuel, it's a finite resource unfortunately.

It seems that you haven't seen a paper from BP where it is stated the from the nineties until global reserves have risen by 144% while global demand has only risen by ~40%!!!

    I conjectured this:
    • Around 15:40, someone who was selling a few coins at ~960 removed his offer. Again, since the green plots did not change, he either raised his bid to 1050 USD or higher, gave up for now, or sold outside of Mt Gox.

Correction: since that was the lowest extant offer, presumably a new eager buyer came in with a bid that matched that offer, and that bid was processed immediately so it did not disturb the green plots.

I always use the chart from BTCchina. I found it more reliable.

Ok, here is the chart from China.
I can't decide which variant of the neckline is correct there.

Use the one that tells you the opposite of what you want to hear.

If you are bearish and think that failure to cross above the neckline confirms your theory, use the lower line.  If you are bullish and think that successful crossing upwards confirms your theory, use the upper line.

Maybe there was a lag and price falls before your order was put in the order book.

    €1.63?
That's expensive, but not that much.
Norway, oil-producing country has it at ~NOK15/l (~€1.79/l)

Of course there is always worse...

I know nothing about commodity or currency trading, but this is how I interpret this chart:

    • Most buyers and sellers are sticking to their positions (for severals hours now).  Compare to this chart from dec/06:
    • On the right side there are a bunch of people who bought BTC at around 1000 USD, and ar are now stubbornly asking that amount in order to limit their losses.
    • Many of them love round numbers so they area sking 1000 USD exactly.
    • A few of them realize that even if the price rises to 1000 USD there will not be enough buyers for all that offer.  So they are asking 995 USD, 970 USD: they will lose a bit more but they will be in front of the line when (if) buyers raise their bids.
    • A small bid at 920 USD was canceled around 15:15. Another small bid at ~950 USD was canceled around 15:57.  Since the red plots did not budge, presumably those guys either gave up, lowered their bids below 870 USD, or bought those coins outside of MtGox.
    • Around 15:40, someone who was selling a few coins at ~960 removed his offer. Again, since the green plots did not change, he either raised his bid to 1050 USD or higher, gave up for now, or sold outside of Mt Gox.
    • To satisfy all the sellers who are asking ~1000 USD or less one would need all the buyers who are asking ~870 or more.  Where are they going to meet?
