Stop buying real gold and minerals. That destroys the planet. Get her a virtual ring.

lol what?

also i really think she wants something to show off to all her friends.

Mining companies are destroying the environment in countries like Chile. And we need the environment to survive. So I really think people should try to buy less frivolous stuff like rings made of gold. Virtual mining should be the future and let real resources for stuff that is actually needed.

Is 800 the new 15 and or 130???

hmmm

You have to ask?

How about this, $15 you sell your wife to buy BTC

If its $130, you buy yourself another wife

Deal?

yeah, i more or less did something like that... going all in at $3 was pretty hard for a while.

anyway she is getting a very nice ring for christmas. diamonds and gold is still are she really cares about, lol. silly girls.

I am a girl and I would prefer Bitcoins to Diamonds at this point!  Why?  In a year or two I could get 10 or even 100 for the price of 1!   Grin  I have always loved a great deal.  Bitcoin could be the best "deal" ever!

We will see though.  I was complaining this morning that so far our investment in Bitcoin has only grown in the virtual world. We have not yet seen any benefits from it in the physical world.  We will start pulling some out in a year or so I think, depending on how fast and high it grows.

$1000 invested, 1.25 coins O.O

LOL!!

I remember how I sold $1000 worth of coins to my best friend in January this year... I told him he couldn't afford to lose the opportunity, and he said "ok, WTF, take $1,000 and send me some of that magic internet money"...

Do you know how many coins I sold him?

BTC71

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Crazy bitcoin, so crazy... And you have to know that at that time it seemed very expensive to him. He told me "come on man, can't you round it up and give me 100 coins? This is crazy, $1,000 hard earned dollars for 70 monopoly-like tokens" Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I will add that Bitcoin ALWAYS feel expensive when you first buy it. But it's not.

the barrier to entry is so low.

I think this bears emphasis.  This is one of the reasons Bitcoin can be such a disruptive and democratizing force.

A couple years ago, if you already had a decent gaming PC, the barrier to entry was, literally, a few clicks.

But still, everybody knows that Bitcoin is the real thing, and the rest just clones and scamcoins.
Scamcoins are like gambling, poor people clinging to delusions of riches ripped off by those who understand the game.

Word.  One of my favorite things in life is to find an altcoin supporter and whittle away their arguments until they literally admit "I don't care, I just want USD!"

I dabble a fair bit in altcoins. Why? Well, I don't care, I just want bitcoins!

Making BTC from scamcoins is possible, but extremely difficult. Most of the times you will end up losing BTC if you mess with scamcoins - I know by heart. I was lucky enough to buy LTC at 0.002BTC, I sold for good when it went at aprox. 0.02, and I think I will never ever invest again in LTC. I feel lucky (because it was just sheer luck, a silly gamble that paid off), now I won't test my luck any more.

For the record: I lost BTC with XRP and with some other scamcoin. Not a lot in absolute terms because I took those as a game, but a lot in relative (%) terms.

I usually play with alts when bitcoin is indecisive or on the turn, and trade extremely carefully (mostly with litecoin), for a relatively small but safeish margin. Such careful day trading has added up my bitcoins nicely, whereas I've learnt not to day trade BTC/USD except for during obvious corrections. I find that I can better predict BTC/LTC daily/hourly swings than BTC/USD. Never go to sleep holding any alts.

I've been trying to stay away from trading, but the overall trends are still surprisingly easy to take advantage of in this market, especially having observed it for so long.  One of the primary problems for new adopters (and many of us went through this) is that many of them are brand new to any form or trading (as I was 3 years ago).

Resisting the psychological effects of seeing the market move against you after you take a position by joining selling in a panic are really, really hard to do.  Lots of people think they can do it, in the abstract, but it's just not that easy once your money is on the line.  Knowing that so many people who join during bull runs are so powerfully subject to these psychological effects makes bitcoin ripe for manipulation, for better or worse.  I think it's a phenomena of the bitcoin market that will be reduced over time as the market as a whole matures, and I think there's already some evidence of that, but I think it will continue to persist for years to come.

None of this is anything totally unique to bitcoin, but I think it is amped up in this market in part because the barrier to entry is so low.

I think it's probably too soon to know that, but I'm putting myself in a buying position again for the first time in a while (with new USD, not from sold BTC).  I'm waiting for a more decisive dip before I start accumulating again.  What I'd like to see is a burst of panic selling, TBH.

So in other words, you're a butcher waiting for pigs coming to your den?

I like, i like.

Ppl always argue that  bitcoin at $X is not sustainable, nothing to support it yet they pump altcoins/scamcoins with absolutely no applications and just purely speculation. Exchanges that trade altcoins are shady at best.

You better get used to other crypto-currencies in the space.  People like choice, even if you don't. Kind of a freedom thing....knowwhatimean?
Yeah I use Facebook and Orkut every day. Oh wait, I don't.
