Be sure to check your thermostat (or just pick up a new one, they aren't expensive) as they frequently get stuck open allowing cold coolant from the radiator to mix in constantly and preventing the engine from reaching optimal temperature in cold weather.
I actually prefer the old distributor design over the new coil packs. Much easier to diagnose and get back up and running in an emergency situation. Plus, you don't have to replace 6 expensive coil packs if you only have one coil. (I drive 60k miles per year for work so I end up with a 250k+ car every 3 years and start looking to replace it with a 10 yr old reliable model under 100k)
