Blockstream Issues Security Token Tied to Bitcoin Hashrate, Payable in BTC
https://www.coindesk.com/blockstream-security-token-bitcoin-hashrate-payable-bitcoin

What do you think of these hashrate tokens? The first batch will be sold in minimum lots of ~275k$, so it's only for whales, but they will be traded OTC in 0.1x lots. What looks nice to clueless me is they sell at a discount to actual mining hardware. And, more importantly, the buyer is not subject to issues with delivery, operation, maintenance etc. of actual ASICs.

Are they a thing? Can they become a thing in due time?

Edit: Strange thing is, ATH for € is coming much sooner than ATH for $. Why? Maybe €/$ exchange rate differences between ATHs?

I guess EUR/USD price differences are too easy to arb for them to last long.

Rather, I don't understand the present high value of USD with respect to EUR and UKP. USA are well ahead of other nations in their brrrr work. It must be the market's bet on quicker recovery of the economy in the US than elsewhere.

Europeans are just better in building walls, they are simply harder to take down and consequently last a lot longer.

Anyone wish to comment on this?:
I usually like Styxenhammer but it seems to me he has no fundamental understanding of the details of the SEC vs LBRY case.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoFAgfZY7Ek
https://www.sec.gov/litigation/complaints/2021/comp25060.pdf

My limited understanding:
The case reads to me that LBRY sold tokens before their network was even available and other dodgy dealings with regards to IOUs to certain investors.

LBRY in light of this case seem to be trying to create FUD on Twitter by suggesting if they lose their case, crypto is doomed. Styxenhammer seemed to have been baited because he uses the Odyssey video platform backed by LBRY.

In actual fact it seems to me that in this case the SEC is helping crypto to succeed by rooting out criminal or at least dodgy activity.

 Huh

Quick comment:

In the first minute of the video: "...but there's also a tweet by Jeremy Kauffman, who runs LBRY."

That's what bothers me with these projects. They're structured like companies. CEOs, CFOs, CTOs, "The Team", etc. I'm very wary when I see a leader or leaders running crypto-related projects. I think part of Bitcoin's success is the fact that there isn't a specific person or team that runs it. Satoshi Nakamoto invented it, and there's a group of very talented developers that maintain and update the code, all under a consensus scheme. There is no central authority. When you add leadership and company-centric structure to the mix, I fear that things can get ugly.

If you don’t do PGP, you don’t do crypto!

Kudos on that post.  I intend to catch up Soon™.

Meanwhile...

Edit: Oh, and trust me on this: I'm extremely picky about typography, maybe as picky as you, if not more! This is not meant as an offensive comment. I think there are very few of us left. I'm always happy when I find another one...

At least three in the WO. Be happy!

Edit 2: I fully support your suggestion about using LATEX as a markup language for posts here, in the way it is used in MathOverflow (Stack Exchange), for example. It's a pleasure to post there because of this, among other things.

Enjoy:

I intended to ask for this long ago.  Yesterday, in the Wall Observer, a mathematically inclined connoisseur of fine typography incited me to speak up for LATEX-lovers and other TEXnicians.  So yes, there is demand for this!

On a related note:

Satoshi uses British English and inserts two spaces between sentences.

I believe we may safely presume that Satoshi would appreciate proper spacing.

Less than 1% to a € ATH. When Paypal will offer BTC purchases in the rest of the world? That will be big! Get your popcorn ready, people! The lift-off has just started. Next target 75K, 120K!!!  Wink
