The double letters have to do with the pronunciation of the vowel in front of them, if the vowel is short the consonant afterwords is (usually) doubled.

Yes, they are smaller units of measure. A kanna for example is 2,617 liters according to the rules of 1665.
1 kanna was divide in to (for fluids) 1/48 tunna (barrel) = 2 stop = 8 kvarter = 32 jungfrur (virgins) (also called ort).
The unit was also used in Germany https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanne_(Einheit)

And skäppa is also a measure (German Scheffel, English bushel) known from the bible "candle under a bushel"

Here's some more swedish units for you to meditate over.
1 Foder = 2 Pipa (pipe) =  4 Oxhuvud (oxenhead) = 6 Fat or åm (barrel) = 12 Halvfat (halfbarrel) = 24 Ankare (anchor) = 48 Halvankare (halfanchor) = 360 Kanna = 942,12 liter

The word kanna is by the way still used today but now it just means pitcher.

And tunna means barrel, so tunnland originally meant the area of land that a farmer could seed with a barrel of grain seeds.

Edited.

But a hectare is a metric unit ... its 10,000 sq.m (100m x 100m)

Yes, but it's non-SI. And the name is just off...

Edit: Actually yes, you're right, strictly speaking, hectare should not be on my "acres..." list. I've never really used it, or ever heard it being used, so I immediately binned it with the other weird imperial units. But it is indeed a metric (albeit non-SI) unit.

Still, meters/metres and grams (and also liters/litres), together with their powers and multipliers are sufficient and clear IMHO. The imperial units are probably still used due to tradition and will likely die off in the future.

Acres, hectares, feet, pounds, ounces, gallons, furlongs, chains, barrels... What is wrong with you guys? Are you into BDSM?

Just use meters and grams. On their own, squared or cubed, and prefix with micro, milli, centi, kilo when needed. Simple. Easy.

And don't get me started on screw thread sizes. I had to 3D-print an imperial-sized nut the other day, which drove me crazy!

The Swedish unit of tunnland was officially surveyed and standardized in the 1630s, and set to 14,000 Swedish square ells, i.e. 56,000 Swedish square feet. One tunnland was divided into 56 kannland, 32 kappland, 6 skäppland or 2 lopsland. How is that hard to understand?

Edit: I wonder what tunn, kann, kapp, skäpp and lops mean. Must have to do with size I guess... And, are the double letters at the end necessary to join them with land? The OCD in me...

And we (TINW) need to stop thinking in terms of dollars.  We (editorial “we”) know that 1 BTC = 1 BTC; but what is a dollar worth?  A dollar must be valued in sats.  We (royal “we”) therefore decree by fiat that henceforth, we shall quote sats/USD as we observe dollar sell walls.

Bitcoins value should be measured in Gold instead.

1 BTC ~ 942.322 gm
1 BTC ~ 33.239 oz

One of the most obvious similarities between gold and Bitcoin is the cap on the quantity available. Whereas fiat money can be printed into infinity, both gold and Bitcoin have specific restrictions on the amount that can be introduced into the economy. For Bitcoin, there is a 21 million bitcoin limit, As for gold, the yearly new supply is limited to around 2,500 tons.”

All good things to those who wait
Today is the mindrust day. One year ago, on that evil day, mindrust panic sold all his 10BTC stash for $4000 - the average price he has bought his stash. He had twice that sum in fiat, but instead of buying at these incredibly cheap prices, he decided to buy USD, monero and other shitcoins. His ghost is reportedly still appearing from time to timel on bitcointalk topics, arguing that his decision was right. To him and others fallen comrades by the poison of Peter Schiff's kinda FUD, a minute of silence.

How many acres total now?

Getting up to near 140 acres now.

I read a whole Wikipedia page and all I learnt is that you own 124 football field.
Given the fact I have never saw a football field (as football is the wrong name for the wrong sport, over there), still, I don't know how much land you do own, but I guess it's a pretty big garden.

Well done!

An acre is about 4000 square meters.

Fun fact, an acre is about the same as the scandinavian unit "barrel of land" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrel_of_land

Good Morning WOvians...

I thought we go up to a new ATH this night, but we go down a little... But today ist the day, where we went from ATH to ATH Cheesy

Btw. Yesterday I found out, that here in germany they made future trading basically impossible for private citizens.

Since this year, you can only remove max 20k Loss from your gains. All above doesn't count for tax calculation. You can take the rest to the next year, but you can only remove it from gains in future trading, not other income.

One example:

Loss: 30.000 €
Win: 40.000 €

Before 2021 easy: 40k - 30k = 10k and 25% taxes on it.

Now: 40k - 20k (max) = 20k and 25% taxes on it.

Now imagine future trading with leverage has sometime many more the these numbers.

This is highly unlawful (constitutional). Hope they win before court, but this takes time.

So the only way to gain more coins is to stake or to buy the fucking dip.

I am amazed. Germany outlawed losses [yes, I get it, more than 20K].
That's insane, sorry.
In US you could have 10bil gains and 10bil 3K losses, and you can subtract 3K, but ONLY 3K max a year, a ridiculously low number that did not change for decades (or maybe ever).
Around here, they compound something very fast when it is in their favor and never update something that goes in the opposite direction.
Well, bitcoin fixes this.

Yep, we are govered by idiots ... -.-

OW COME ON!!! Edging $58k is killing me  Cry

Edging enhances the feeling you get when it finally blows.
It's well worth the wait.

Edging is one of the best inventions of humanity. Until you have been edged properly you really have not experienced a true ATH.

I am asking for BTC to be edged and teased with great care for days maybe weeks on end.  The spike when it lets loose will be the longest green candle ever done or seen in the history of the human race. Grin

In the mean time I may leak a bit and sell 100 USD worth. Much like a tiny drop of well you know pre ATH

I'm just not a big fan of #nohomo tags, but you, like, could, you know, have used one here, man.

From memory, an acre is 1/4 mile long, and 33 feet wide. 43,560 square feet. Or maybe 33 1/3. Oops, that's an album. I dunno.

machine gun bitcoin incoming!  Laser eyes?

Just realized there was a glitch in one of the frames so re-rendered.

Laser eyes may be an option. Unfortunately, any kind of gradient really bloats the filesize. The glowing green up-line looks awful at anything under 5MB.

Interestingly, the original gif appears to be using some kind of AR-15 type rifle but with no buffer tube so would be non-functional.
