Any way, Christmas is over, let’s get back to doing what we do best......
Observing walls, checking the price too many times a day & dreaming of the MOON!
I wish!
Bought dad a 1TB SSD for Christmas to speed up his computer a bit and I made the mistake of using an external rig USB3.0/eSata to mirror the old HDD and using Acronis True Image software. At first, the computer wouldn't recognize the new drive (#$*% Windows). I had to go into Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management and enable the drive. I thought his computer had USB3.0 but as it turns out his computer only had USB2.0 and I didn't bring an extra SATA connector so it took 2 hours for the first 2 hours (yeah, shitty timing algo) and then it really started counting down from 2 hours (although not accurately but I had assumed ~20MB/s so I was prepared to wait)... watched a hockey game, daughter and I went out for a bite to eat - my wife went to see Frozen II with mom... I searched around for some Boxing day deals (there were none) and finally we got down to less than 10 minutes to go! Yay!! Dad yells in from the other room "Uh oh! It says "Error reading from sector x". I looked at it and almost cried but I clicked ignore... another one... ignore another and another etc. I decide to click "ignore all" - the time remaining goes back to 8 hours.
Took the computer apart, cut some cable ties to free up a power connector and disconnected the DVD (luckily it was SATA), hooked up the new drive, reconfigured the BIOS, rebooted and ran the software again. This time the countdown timer started at 30 minutes. Ten minutes later it went to 38 minutes... I went home. Dad called about an hour later (it was I nearly 10pm) and said "Another error". "Click on
ignore all", I said. So I just called him now - he says it's all done; hopefully I will finish up soon. I'm not too optimistic though. I seem to have given the gift that keeps on giving (me grief!)
Merry Christmas!
edit: I shouldn't complain so much at least I'm off work
