www.bitcoinmonitor.com is working. You can see these transactions there, at least we can see it looks fairly normal

I don't see any txs larger than 1K on bitcoinmonitor, but there were a bunch.

Large transactions are often just change as a smaller payment is made from a large address. Here's an example I snapped:

keewee, wouldn't you expect change amounts to vary, and not be in duplicate?

I don't understand.

Large TX's are people moving BTC out of cold storage and paper wallets into exchanges.

Interesting that some of the huge transactions are from the same person

e.g 4 at 7950 BTC and one at 7900

also 5 at least at 2850 - must be another person dividing up amounts....

Something really fishy is happening.

I noticed this too - there have been two waves like this in the past 40 minutes or so. Sound of the first one startled the hell out of me.

Ouch.
People would cut Mt Gox a lot more slack if they could communicate more about these things. If your site is down with no explanation customers tend to get fussy. Show them a picture like that and you get more sympathy.

Mt Gox doesn't communicate enough, and what little they do is tone deaf. I think they are trying to portray optimism, but it comes across as arrogance.

It's not good, it's great.

We don't want weak hands holding thousands of bitcoins. Best to disperse them now than later when the public really starts to trust bitcoin.
