I find it funny that bitcoin is such a revolutionary technology that even in the midst of its own crash, it is the only sure way to transfer wealth across the world. Today I met a businessman who, in anticipation of the crash, had sold many bitcoins in an exchange. He has 10,000s of fiat currency, but the exchange limitations will not allow him to withdraw it. Even if they did, the wire would take days. His fastest and most reliable way to cash out is to buy the bitcoins back (at a lower rate, but with a fee), withdraw them, send them to me, and take an instant SEPA transfer or cash from the counter. Think about it - how can bitcoin crash, as it is vital for transferring the proceeds of its own crash to the owner's hand?

I wish they would be more transparent about this. Tired of the conspiracy theories..

this has been painful to watch - wouldn't mind if it were just people bailing cos they're scared but I think most the damage has come from people selling and re-buying which seems silly to me, even if you gained 50% more coins you are probably worse off with the damage to mainstream adoption and investment.

Looking at http://bitcoin.clarkmoody.com/widget/chart/ it appears (based on the red volume spikes) another huge sell off and Mt. Gox pulls the plug twice in a row.   I believe they do not want to see BTC under $100 and think they can control it.

I was thinking about that too, DDOS never killed them before just made them slower. Today they're pulling out as soon as price is failing.

    You suggest pulling out? Smiley

This does not look normal  - does it? I am definitely not a financial genius.

"We are experiencing a stronger than usual DDoS. We are working in it."

Can we get just 1 piece of evidence that it was indeed DDoS please?

I'm starting to wonder if it would be better if gox never comes back. They have become the central bank that bitcoin doesn't need.

They should have died after they leaked all the passwords really but stupid people forgave their unforgivable sin so they continued to sin more.

Does a DDoS attach really just look like normal traffic to edge routers and data center routers? How don't we have this solved?
    WHY DO PEOPLE DDOS OTHERS?!

Wow, a massive burst of very large BTC transactions just now - quite ominous sounding on listentobitcoin.
