Sort of off topic (not that there's much of a "topic" in most of these threads...), but maybe someone here can enlighten me:

What *actually* happened with MTGox? Because I had a sell order in for 12BTC at $11.66666 and it's not clear whether that executed or not. I *think* it did, but my balance still shows 12.3 BTC and whatever USD, when it should be all USD. Anyway, I assume MTGox is still trying to fix the glitch. I read their post about how some piece of code caused an error that in turn shut down the trading engine, but that seems like BS when you see the 1 billion stuff.

Also, the MTGox interface (at least for me) still looks messed up -- my balances are basically not what they should be as I just mentioned, plus I show an open buy order at $7.67876 for 100 BTC (which I don't have enough USD to cover) and an open sell order for 60 BTC at $11.66666 (which I also don't have enough BTC to cover). So did they cancel my paltry ask for 12 BTC @ $11.67 (even though it's still showing) and process other asks? Because we appear to have passed that mark multiple times.

You need to contact [email protected].

As I've said before mtgox is broken when there is high volatility.
Emailed... will be curious to hear the "explanation".

times like these that makes me wish there was a reliable, audited, secure exchange to pt gox and such to shame. would develop it myself if i had the technical skills.

This would be true if bitcoin had an insignificant speculative value. If 50% of all coins were used for circulation that would be the case for example.
Sadly this isn't so.

its about to crash ....

this restarted Rich Newbie Buyer is the signal us bears have been waiting for.

i sold more  Wink

hehe, except there are a LOT of rich newbie buyers depositing on multiple exchanges in multiple currencies as we speak. =)

yes... this is sad but true. No one can be a winner without the losers

Is this your general life philosophy or just your economic philosophy?

bitcoin economics philosophy

my guess is its like this in all other markets (no winner without losers). but i wouldn't know

In fact that is untrue.  Capitalist economic philosophy is based on the premise that both parties win.  This is one reason why a contract that does not provide some compensation to both sides is not valid -- which is why some CEOs take $1 salary instead of $0.

You make shoes, I grow wheat, we trade wheat for shoes, we both win.  Because of economies of scale, if I had to grow wheat AND make my shoes, I'd end up growing less wheat then I have after trading some for your shoes.  Day traders take advantage of the mechanism of mutually beneficial contracts to turn them into a gambling house :-).

I may NEED USD for something much more valuable to me now then a high BTC price will be later (let's pretend its a medical operation)... there is no loser to that exchange.
