Now I am trying to decide if my bitcoin is stuck in Electrum and it is not retrievable?

When I made the watch-only wallet, it never gave me an option to create seeds, because I would have written those down and photographed the screen too.

So my bitcoin is sitting in this watch-only wallet at Electrum.

This is horrible. Sad

Is it lost coin? Why would would anybody want a watch-only wallet?

This watch-only wallet traps your coin in there so it is inaccessible? Huh

I'm now accepting any new replies to this topic for how to get my bitcoin off blockchain and into my ledger wallet. For I am totally lost now.

I figured it would be easy to just send to my ledger but then I had to open this Electrum wallet and things got a little confusing, didn't they...

Can I do that? I figured the reason I am using this Electrum thing is because my bitcoin is basically stuck at blockchain.info.

Something is not adding up here. Why is this so complicated?

that means you've imported by public address as watch-only address
you need to import by private key to be able to spend amount from that address

Maybe my error is at Electrum's Install Wizard, it asks this:

Standard wallet
Wallet with two factor authentification
Multi-signature wallet
Import Bitcoin addresses or private keys

So far I have only tried that fourth option.. (and the fourth option creates a watching-only wallet)

I browsed through the Standard wallet option and it gives an option to use a hardware wallet..
Is that Standard wallet the one I need to use for putting my coin into my Ledger?

Can't you try importing all 4 of the keys in Electrum? One of them is bound to have some balance that way, depending from which script the adress is derived, right?

Hi Adolfin, yes my bitcoin balance is visible while logged-in with Electrum, and at the top of the Electrum screen it says "imported, watching-only". Does that mean my coin is now at Electrum, but it's stuck in a wallet that is watching-only?

My balance was also found at blockchain.info by plugging in my private key. So it's there, somewhere.

I have only tried one of the private keys at Electrum and it simply does not work. I am wondering what to do now, since my Electrum wallet is watching-only.. Angry

Correct: when I log-in to Electrum it shows my bitcoin, the original date of sending it to the blockchain, and the balance.

Also when I log in, an Information box pops up and says this:

What exactly does that mean? laughing out loud. This is insane.. Undecided

when you do that, does the same public address shown on that bitaddress page?
since you said your private key is 51 chars starts with 5,
then your address should be the one below Bitcoin Address QR (on the left side)
does it match your public address from warp wallet?

just a simple question to confirm something, is your private key start with '6...'?
if it does then it's BIP38 encrypted, you need to decrypt it first to get the original privkey

did you use the passcode to decrpyt it? then you should get an unencrypted private key(s)
I think there is a way to import it with electrum android wallet using the QR and passcode
otherwise you should just use the regular unencrypted private key shown by bitaddress

So the website for bitaddress.org is back online today, so I did as suggested, and I went to their site, unplugged my internet, and then checked my private key.. Success!!

Yay. So I have now confirmed it is a valid private key, with some BTC sitting there

But.. the exact-same private key still does not work when I input it at Electrum..

What gives?? To me it seems like the issue is not my wallet but it is something about Electrum..?

Okay I'm at it again

I did as others suggested here at this topic and I went back to warp wallet and generated a temporary wallet, and Yes the temporary private key worked for accessing Electrum.

However, the thing about the actual private key in question (the one where I sent bitcoin too) is that I did not enter my private key incorrectly - because I have a clear photograph of the computer screen once I created: the public key, the (51 character) private key, and the bar code things.

So I wonder, can Warp Wallet generate bad keys?

Everyone is recommending to go to bitaddress.org to use that for verifying if the private key is valid. I keep trying to access their site in multiple ways and it says the site cant be reached.

Upon more research, I found this at a bitcointalk topic from somebody else with wallet issues:
"Ok...I tried Electrum...it works fine if you use the 51 character base58 private key....but it does not recognize the PRIVATE KEY BIP38 FORMAT...i need to try that to see if password decrypts it and then show private and public key correctly"

Folks... this is way over my head with "base58" and "bip38", but I have a feeling this is what has happened.

Can anyone help with instructions for unlocking this private key of mine and getting my bitcoin onto my Ledger?

When I created it with Warp Wallet, I took a photograph of the computer screen and it shows the public key, the private key, passphrase, and 2 QR Codes.

I don't get it. I am typing my exact private key into Electrum and I've tried dozens of times.

Is there any other way to do this besides using Electrum?

If next is not enabled it's usually a sign that the thing written down is not a correct private key.
Maybe a good start would be to check if the private key you've written down is a correct private key. I've found a thread about this here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/how-to-check-is-private-key-valid-1975790

Since even your address is visible only in circumstances I don't understand, maybe you get somebody else help you. Sorry.

Action speaks louder than words. What i mean is watching live demonstration is more helpful than reading. Try to check youtube then ask here again for further assistance. I always consult youtube first before asking any questions to others and it is effective to learn something new.

My guess is that you've written it incorrect.
Again, I advise you to check the steps with a temporary wallet you make so you understand first what you are doing.

Okay I am stuck at Electrum

I installed Electrum and checked "Import bitcoin address or private keys" and in the next window typed in my private key.
I did not copy/paste my private key because all I did was had it written on a piece of paper.

Now with my private key typed in, Electrum does not let me click "Next"

What's this all about?
