There is something I have been wondering about... has this forum always been the way it is now? I am somewhat new to cryptos, as I started about 3 months ago. I don't have much invested and am doing this mostly for fun, or with the approach if I do ever make a decent amount, my odds are about the same as winning a lottery. Anyway, when I stumbled across this site, I first expected it to be very very different than it is now.

I thought there would be analytical talk about cryptocurrency from economists. I expected some financial analysis, perhaps some theory discussed. But instead, we have... well, what we have.

There is basically no forum moderation whatsoever. The number of alts run rampant with no organization at all, trolls run free in the streets, scammy behavior all over, and quite often the level of discourse is about what you'd expect from a 14 year old.

Was it always like this? I am not for centralization or more control over cryptos in general, so don't mistake my post as meaning I want greater control or censorship. I just would like to see a better forum here. And those who scream 'scam' the loudest, spread fud all over, are probably doing more harm than many scammers. Just checking the forums today I see such nuggets of wisdom such as this:

Quote
oh yeah Jefferey dahmer did a great job injecting hydrochloric acid or boiling water into the skulls of his victims to turn them into sex slave zombies
and was a great at keeping severed penis's, torso's and heads in his freezer.. he was so good at he got away with it for years !
so i guess he deserved to get away with it and so does every other guy that comes along right ?
"amazing" work eh ? yaaaaaaaaaaa

ohh yeah i looooove your logic buddy ahahhahhahaa

omygod you people are fucked in the head seriously

Has the falling price of cryptos driven everyone insane here? Or were they always like that?

No, it didn't used to be like this. It used to be how the Litecoin Mining subforum is now, with mostly questions about mining, very few coin announcements, etc. It's just been getting worse and worse here.

About 3 months ago, when you started, the Altcoin subforum had pretty much already gone to shit.

Prior to about November of 2013, it was a much cooler place to hang out.  New coin ANN's were much less frequent, and there were far fewer trolls.

Personally, I think it's all DOGE's fault.  DOGE taught the world that a cute, catchy name & meme and nothing else can become a wildly popular coin.  It sorta opened the floodgates for shitcoins to start pouring in like crazy.

It actually used to be worse.  You should have seen it before they banned the giveaway/promo threads.  Holy hell.

I caught the tail-end of the giveaways here. I actually think giveaways are fine, if they were stuck in their own subforum. Having them in the main thread was never a good idea though.

And I was speaking more as to actual discourse, rather than the over-abundant number of coins being released. That is a problem too, which I would think a little forum moderation could help clean up (subforum for brand new alts, secondary forum for alts on major exchanges)? That sort of thing would at least help organization a bit.

But to me, the biggest surprise was the number of  trolls, fud and overall lack maturity from many in this forum.

When I first join last June, I was shocked by that too. People putting each other down. Scam this, scam that. So on....

These type of people need to learn to listen first, analyze logically, then form a valid response within civility, and be humble; right or wrong.

I just ignore someone who insults me on the first response, because that will end up just being time wasted. I don't mind a constructive and positive progressive argument.

Dude, you're an idiot. Wait, no, I take that back, I agree with you.  Smiley

Most certainty not their was a boom in the development of clone coins and it has been ongoing since before that the alt forum was a pretty standard form more or less

I joined about the same time and it reached the point where the giveaway threads got bumped so fast that a thread could go from the top of the page to the bottom in a few seconds. It was just getting faster every day and would have been impossible to moderate. Anything apart from a giveaway thread was unlikely to stay on the first page for more than a few seconds. Nowadays it can sometimes take an entire evening for a thread to go from the top of the page to the bottom. It's running a lot more slowly than it used to before they banned the giveaways.

You have to remember that alot of tech heads are not the greatest economists, otherwise we would all be rich. LOL

Another thing, there will always be troll, drama queens, narcissist and people that just think with too much emotion with no logic behind it.

Let me guess, that was Spoetnik huh? Just sounds too much like him. LMFAO....I mostly ignore him, he has a insult first mentality and likes to stroke his ego...Half of the time I'm in a discussion in a topic with him, he call me a moron or idiot...LMFAO

I think this way personally: Logical reasoning, validation and humbleness, emotions are last in line. Confident, but not a show off and/or be an a$$ about it.... Cool

The level of moderation in Alternate Cryptocurrencies is quite poor, I agree - we desperately need a few more rules and a couple mods here. We don't need censorship, we just need order and to get rid of these damn trolls.

They were always like this.

Apart form this, there ongoing scams asking Americans for BTC in exchange for virtual coins they just made. Since you've realized most people here are dumb, we have (maybe successful) scam like --
