I have some version 3.1.0 WDC wallets. The versions I'm currently using are 3.0.0 and 0.8.6.I can't read the wallet data.Excuse me, which version of the wallet can now read the 3.1.0 version of the wallet?

One of the reasons that the wallet is long to sync and freezes is because it's based on a super old fork of Litecoin (0.8.6 to be precise).

The next major version of litecoin (0.10.x) contained a bunch of optimizations to improve syncing speed and db optimizations, so to improve our wallet we should rebase our code against a newer version of litecoin.

I started this work here, but if someone wants to continue, i suggest using my repository as a starting point https://github.com/Worldcoin-Network/worldcoin as I've stripped out much of the unnecessary skinning that the worldcoin QT wallet used.

The wallets that are posted in this repo do not have hardcoded seeds that currently function so you'll need to provide a worldcoin.conf file with nodes in them.

I do suggest caution about installing random executables so I recommend building from scratch (windows is a pain in the ass though, and best built by cross compiling under linux). Building for linux is dead simple.

Of the top5 scrypt POW chains WDC will always be there.
Unfortunately few see the future, POW-chains are the bedrock of crypto.
We just got the vision wrong at the start.
asic-POW chains can not do fast, nor high TPS thru-puts.  {all the time}
That's ok, because they do coins, the base value, the bullion.
POW chains locking up for hours or even days is just a function of the market cycles, and stages of asic.

Is there a perfect fix.  Not really.  Other than streamlining code, for resilient diff readjust, and making sure to keep the code base up-dates to the LTC standards.

For all those screaming MN or POS maybe, but not today, and not as a H-fork, rather spin off like BCH is to BTC.

Although Worldcoin is community driven and encourages participation and development from its community members. We strongly suggest any wallets you download are from the worldcoin.global website links. Downloading any other wallet from a 3rd party may not be safe. Please be careful.

Don't suppose there's a bootstrap available? Would be nice to fast-forward. I've been trying to sync from 2016 for the past week or so, and it only seems to sync maybe 24 hours's worth of blocks at a time before I need to restart the wallet. Same issue is present on both 0.8.7.5 and 0.8.6.2. Have tried multiple machines too.

edit - It also appears that worldcoind will not compile on Ubuntu 16.04. Any ideas there?

u can run previous client WorldcoinDaemon for 16.04. latest release has compiled w library only on 18.04 i had same problm

find recent bootstrap host can be https://wdc.bitops.me

In my post, I don't say that I believe all MN/ PoS projects are scam ones.
But, the fact is there are so many scam MN/ PoS projects , like scam ICOs launched recent months.
If you think that all POS / MN coins are scams, then you obviously do not understand anything about technology.
And, as you raised your opinion, PoW is more vulnerable to attacks.

I would like to emphasize my opinion that PoS is better than PoW in terms of evironmental protection.

I agree with you that in this market there are a lot of fraudulent projects that just clone the ready code of popular coins.
I also agree that almost all ICO is a scam as they collect money from the air in advance inflatable price bubble.
Many projects simply imitate the purchase of tokens or coins, although most of them are in the hands of developers and the exchange where they then organize a fake trade.
But let's not generalize all this.
Deception can happen using any technology, so that's a different question.
But that a coin survive and grow, WDC must use the best and most cost-effective technology otherwise attention to it will be lost.

You can continue to believe in the POW concept, but at any moment one big miner will come to your network and create problems for you.

Obviously, the life time of most POW coins is coming to an end.
Those coins that failed to adapt to the new rules and reality will simply be destroyed through the coming forks.
WDC investors had enough time to understand this. But now, that time is lost.
It is good to stop PoW-based crypto coins, and switch to hybrid PoS/ MN coins because they will be better and more environmental-friendly.
In contrast, they will create a new pressure on potentially massive PoS/ MN scam coins.
Hence, investors need to be smart to choose a good one.

If you think that all POS / MN coins are scams, then you obviously do not understand anything about technology.
You can continue to believe in the POW concept, but at any moment one big miner will come to your network and create problems for you.
Now ask yourself who will support such a coin under such circumstances.
But that's only one part.
Even more trouble will begin when the profitability of POW mining becomes negative and the entire network will be held by a few homegrown miners who work for the sake of faith in the future pump.
In this case, the arrival of almost any Asic miner into the network will create a problem for the network in the form of time lapses and forks (I'll even not consider a deliberate attack here).
As a result, you will need to release new wallets again and again that the network would not be paralyzed.
I will not point here again to the advantages of POS technology, but I will just say that such coins are much more persistent (due to the minimum energy costs to maintain the network) and their network is much more resistant to price fluctuations in contrast to POW.

Hi
Good News Worldcoin friends. You will be happy to know going into the new year that I was able to purchase worldcoin.global at a reasonable price. Special thanks to the seller for keeping the price fair and helping out the worldcoin community. Right now it's setup as a forwarder to worldcoin.solutions. Ill work on switching the dns and changing some hosting B.S. in the coming days. Be well all!

You can now access worldcoin.global

I have setup worldcoin.solutions to forward to worldcoin.global until all websites involved can change their links back to worldcoin.global however this may take some time to redirect (just submitted).

for those who are unable to sync: it is not necessary to use 0.8.7.5 version. You can use older 0.8.6.2. There is no fork in 0.8.7.5 so they both are compatible. You can also use BC version of wallet which is compatible too if you have it already installed. Payout from cryptopia to this version of wallet works well.

From where can I download the 0.8.6.2 wallet?

Maybe here: https://github.com/worldcoinproject/worldcoin-v0.8/releases/tag/v0.8.6.2

But as for me the old 0.8.7 (https://github.com/WorldcoinGlobal/WorldcoinDaemon/releases/tag/00.08.07-Little_Devil) works normally and it's newer.
